Chapter 549: Chapter 547: Preparations(1)

"Clarissa, what are you doing?"

"Fufufufu... are you having trouble hearing? You’re getting old, my darling."

"No. That’s not what I’m talking about." My expression hardened. "I’m asking if you know what you’re doing. This isn’t a game, Clarissa."

"I know, Dante, but who better to do it? Me, or some glorified tree you aren’t even sure will cooperate?"

"This..." She was right.

The process of bringing back Mom and Dad involved getting the Lifetree to actually willingly help out. Forceful coercion wasn’t going to work, since the thing could just alert the true Lifetree and everything gets botched.

And considering the fact that I’d just wiped out its entire race of servants...

My face soured even further. Still...

"I can’t let you do that. It’s too dangerous. The whole point of me not forcing the issue is exactly because it’s too dangerous. I can’t let you do that. Hell, can you even do it?" I had to ask. With the way she was acting, the confidence in her voice...

"Darling... did you even bother to check the details of the bloodline you gave me after doing whatever it is you did with it?"

"The bloodline I gave you?" I was taken aback.

[ABSOLUTE] <Vital Principality>.

That was the bloodline I’d given her after using Touch of the Absolute on her world-heart bloodline, but—

"What’s that got to do with this?"

"Fufufufu... it has everything to do with it, darling." I just watched her, my eyes demanding answers.

"Before I go any further, tell me, darling, how exactly were you planning on persuading this thing here to help? I can feel a dense sense of animosity from it already, so what exactly did you plan to say to it?"

I had no answer. This was something far removed from my comfort zone. I’d made up my mind to do whatever it took since Shaia assured me that this thing could help, but now, facing the decision head-on, I couldn’t speak.

"My darling..." Clarissa’s voice mellowed, turning caring and affectionate. "I know what you’re thinking. And I know just how far you’re willing to go to bring back Sera and Regulus, but even then, do you truly wish to let this thing know the leverage it has over you?"

My face hardened.

"You don’t, and it seems I had come out at the right moment, because now, with me here, you don’t need to do anything you don’t want to." She smiled, a beautiful yet saddened expression.

"Clarissa..."

"You asked what my new bloodline had to do with anything? Well, like I siad it has everything to do with it."

She turned back around, sitting cross-legged in the empty void of space, her voice serene. "The <Vital Principality> bloodline is simple yet terrifying all the same. Simple in the sense that it only lets me do one thing consistently, yet terrifying in the sense that what it allows me to do makes me virtually all-powerful, should I be able to handle the strain."

"What... does that bloodline do, Clarissa?" I could’ve checked, gone back to the log from before, but I wanted to hear it from her. What did that bloodline do for her to be this confident? Yet the moment she opened her mouth to speak—

"The <Vital Principality> bloodline, my darling, allows me to become the root source of all life within any reality I find myself in."

Silence fell upon the region.

I couldn’t speak because, truly, that was a very terrifying ability.

"Become the root source of all life within reality?" Just saying it out loud alone sounded like something that shouldn’t be possible.

This wasn’t anything similar to Aunt V’s <Abyssal Sovereign Light Of Primality> that bent all lifeforms to the will of the host and made it possible for her to assimilate whatever traits she wished into herself, no.

This thing was even scarier, as it could possibly grant one being control over all life within a reality.

"This... surely not?" Even Shaia was stunned.

"Fufufufu.... Shocked, aren’t you? Of course I can’t do all that yet, since I obviously can’t handle bearing the cost of carrying that much weight right now, but we don’t need me to bear the weight of an entire reality this time around, no? We just need me to become the root source of life within this cosmos. After all, Regulus and Seraphina are predominantly from this realm, so there should still be a thread connecting them from here to wherever it is that my invisible sister said they were being held."

"Shaia?"

"It’s possible.. in fact, if what she’s saying about her bloodline’s ability is true, then it’s the best way to go."

"And HE won’t notice?"

Anchor. This Elder-level manifestation was what I was most worried about.

The process to bring back Mom and Dad was simple. Get this Lifetree to connect with the pillar of this cosmos, then use that connection to "bargain" back Mom and Dad’s souls from the being holding them—Anchor, this administrator in charge of keeping the lid tight across all the creations of the different manifestations.

It was this being that was responsible for never allowing the creations of other manifestations to invade or collide with another creation, as he kept the barriers and seals around each creation locked tight.

Ironically, it was this same being’s actions that made it impossible for the many bastards hunting me to commit more than a few apostles they could sneak in here, for they would need to overcome Anchor if they wished to storm in here by themselves. But my existence was still unconfirmed, so they didn’t risk it yet.

Then again, it was this same reason that made Shaia suggest seeking out the Lifetree. Barring the fact that my existence level couldn’t overcome Anchor and forcefully take back Mom and Dad, even if I did, I would inevitably attract the gaze of the being. Unlike the others, he wasn’t impeded from peering through the myriad creations, so the moment he recognizes my existence, I shall become exposed, intentionally or not, and that would spell a whole other disaster.

So, the Lifetree was to take that brunt, for if Anchor merely saw a Lifetree bargaining back a soul from its realm, then he wouldn’t act. But now...

"It’s the best course of action right now, my love. We can try and control the will of this tree and get it to act as we wish, or we can skip all of that process entirely and just go straight to taking back the souls of your parents from Anchor, with Clarissa acting as the source of life from this cosmos. It should work."

"But he’ll see her. She’s using an ability I gave her; my presence is everywhere on her, so he might sense something."

"Not if we act, my love. You’ll be free. Your hands will no longer be tied trying to manipulate an unwilling tree, so now, we can use that freedom to do something better..."

"Make sure Clarissa is safe."

"Make sure my dearest sister is safe."

My thoughts slowly calmed down as I began thinking up ways to ensure Clarissa stayed safe in this endeavor.

"Fufufufu... done convening with my invisible sister? What did she say?" Clarissa’s voice cut through my thinking, and I couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

"You’ll meet her soon, I promise. Once the girls are out, you’ll all meet her."

"I know, darling, fufufufu.. now tell me, what did she say?"

"She said it’s the best option we’ve got."

"See? I told you so."

"Yes. But if we’re going to do this, then we’re doing it right."

"What do you mean?"

"Get yourself ready however you can. When I return, we shall begin." Saying so, I pulled upon my connection with Nothingness and then...

Gone.

It was time to have a conversation with my dearest father-in-law.
