Chapter 425: Chapter 240: Lu Fan Gives Silu the Most Expensive Fireworks Show in Jinling
Lu Fan gestured to Old Luo.
When the first firework shot into the sky, it wasn’t loud—more like a soft sigh in the night.
Then it burst open, not into an ordinary blossom, but a golden willow tree. Its branches drooped in silky strands, as if someone had splashed a basin of liquid gold across the sky.
The girls all gasped, "Wow!"
Then, the second, third, and fourth followed...
They shot up one after another, as if setting the entire night sky ablaze.
The red ones were peonies, their layered petals unfolding in the air. Before one could fully fade, another had already bloomed in its place.
The blue ones were ocean waves, surging forward one after another until they covered half the sky.
The purple ones were nebulas, swirling and expanding, as if the Milky Way itself had been brought down to hang just above their heads.
But the most breathtaking part was the finale.
Twelve shells ascended in unison, bursting simultaneously at an altitude of three hundred meters. They formed the four digits "2026" in shimmering gold, which hung in the sky for a full five or six seconds before slowly fading away.
Lu Yao hadn’t put her phone down for a second, muttering over and over, "This is insane! This is insane! How much did all this cost?"
Song Miaomiao and Wen Wan were speechless, their mouths hanging open and their eyes wide.
Liu Shiting stood in the back. Though she remained silent, her eyes never once left the sky.
She’d seen plenty of beautiful firework displays over the years, but she was certain tonight’s was the most expensive one she had ever witnessed!
Jiang Silu tilted her head back, the light from the fireworks flickering across her face.
She watched for a long moment before turning her head. She found Lu Fan standing beside her, also watching the fireworks with a smile playing on his lips.
"Dad," she called.
Lu Fan lowered his head to look at her. "Yes?"
"How much did all these fireworks cost?"
Lu Fan thought for a moment, then said casually, "Over a million, I suppose. I didn’t keep track of the exact amount. Old Luo took care of it."
Jiang Silu’s eyes flew wide, and her voice cracked. "Over a million? For a display that only lasted a few minutes?"
Lu Fan chuckled and ruffled her hair. "As long as you thought it was beautiful, that’s all that matters. Don’t you worry about the cost."
Deeply touched, Jiang Silu lowered her head.
Lu Yao, who had overheard from nearby, rushed over. "Over a million? Uncle Lu, you’re way too generous!"
Song Miaomiao sidled up as well, her eyes wide. "The cost of all the fireworks I’ve ever seen in my life probably doesn’t add up to what this cost."
"I know, right? This display was so beautiful. I’ll remember it forever."
The girls chattered excitedly. Standing in the middle of them all and clutching the bouquet of flowers, Jiang Silu beamed with pure happiness.
Once the fireworks ended, the night sky grew quiet again. Only a few wisps of smoke remained, slowly dissipating in the moonlight.
The lights on the lawn were still on, casting a warm, orange-yellow glow over the entire grassy expanse.
’Tonight’s fireworks must be the most expensive, most beautiful, and most meaningful in all of Jinling!’
Meanwhile, Wen Wan was standing in a corner, holding her phone up high to record a video.
When she finished recording, she looked down and sent a message to Jiang Sifan. Then she clutched the phone tightly in her hand, waiting for his reply.
Jiang Silu hopped down from the windowsill and bounced over to Wen Wan’s side. Peeking at her phone screen, she asked with a grin, "Sister Wen Wan, are you texting my brother?"
Wen Wan’s face instantly turned red. She flipped her phone over and pressed it against her chest, stammering, "Uh... I was just sending him the video of the fireworks."
Looking at her flustered state, Jiang Silu’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled. "Honestly, my brother... ditching you on New Year’s Eve. I’m definitely going to give him a piece of my mind next time I see him."
Wen Wan quickly waved her hands, her voice filled with urgency. "No, no, don’t do that! He must have his reasons. He’s... he’s probably with his roommates."
"You’re always taking his side," Jiang Silu said, taking her hand and drawing out her words in a teasing tone.
Wen Wan lowered her head, her face growing even redder. She didn’t know what to say.
Lu Yao came running over from the direction of the window. Her eyes lit up when she saw Wen Wan, and she waved, calling out, "Wen Wan! We meet again!"
Wen Wan looked up and gave her a small smile, her face still flushed.
Jiang Silu paused, looking from Lu Yao to Wen Wan in surprise. "You two know each other?"
Lu Yao explained with a grin, "The last time I went looking for Brother Sifan, he wasn’t around, so I got to know Wen Wan instead."
Lu Yao took Wen Wan’s hand, leaned in closer, and whispered, "By the way, Wen Wan, did you ever ask for me? Does Brother Sifan have a girl he likes?"
Wen Wan froze for a second. She twisted the hem of her shirt with her fingers and said quietly, "He said... he said he doesn’t want to be in a relationship right now."
Lu Yao nodded. She wasn’t the least bit disappointed; in fact, she seemed even more energized. "He doesn’t want to be in a relationship?" she said with a smile. "That means there’s no one he likes, so I definitely still have a chance."
Hearing this, Wen Wan’s chest suddenly felt tight.
’She thought of the way Jiang Sifan had placed food on her plate, the way he had held her hand and refused to let go, the way he had stood under the streetlight just looking at her.’
’Does he really not want a relationship, or does he just not want one with *her*?’
’She didn’t know.’
Her phone vibrated.
She glanced down. Jiang Sifan had replied.
Jiang Sifan: You guys are at the manor now? I’ll head over right away.
Wen Wan’s eyes lit up, and she quickly typed back a reply.
Wen Wan: Okay, drive safe.
After sending the message, she clutched her phone, her heart pounding.
Jiang Silu leaned over for a peek and then called out with a laugh, "My brother’s coming!"
She then turned and ran to find Lu Fan. "Dad, my brother’s on his way! Can you send someone to pick him up?"
Lu Fan was scrolling through his phone on the sofa. He looked up when he heard her, glanced in her direction, and nodded with a smile. "Alright. I’ll have Chen He go get him."
