Chapter 431: Chapter 242: Jiang Guoqiang Learns the Truth! Lu Fan Personally Goes to Ask for Forgiveness
Jiang Sifan said nothing.
He remembered how he had called Lu Fan a bastard and a scumbag, accusing him of wronging their mother all those years ago.
And now, here he stood, facing two girls, unable to bear letting either of them go.
He suddenly wondered, ’What’s the difference between me and the Lu Fan from all those years ago?’
Lu Fan looked at him, his tone turning serious. "Sifan, I’m not going to tell you to choose one, nor am I going to tell you to have both. I’ll just say this: I was a bastard back then, and because of it, I lost your mother. I’ve regretted it for nineteen years. You’re still young. Don’t give yourself anything to regret."
Jiang Sifan lifted his head and looked at Lu Fan.
There was no blame in his eyes, no mockery—only something indefinable.
It was like understanding, like acceptance, and also like the weary resignation of someone who had walked the same path.
"I understand," Jiang Sifan said, lowering his head.
Lu Fan stood up and patted his shoulder. "All right, I have to get to Yangcheng. Get your things together; I’ll have Chen He take you back to school."
"That’s okay. I can just get a cab myself," Jiang Sifan said, getting to his feet as well.
Lu Fan didn’t press the issue, just nodding. "All right. Text me when you get there."
Jiang Sifan gave a murmur of assent.
Lu Fan turned and walked toward the door. He took two steps, then stopped and looked back at him. "Sifan, no matter how many you choose, Dad will support you. Just don’t hurt them."
With that, he pushed the door open and left.
Jiang Sifan stood in the living room, staring at the closed door for a long, long time.
He thought about all the hardships his mother had endured, raising him and his sister all by herself.
He remembered how he’d sworn never to be like his father.
Yet here he was now, facing two girls, unable to bear letting either of them go.
It wasn’t that he wanted to hurt anyone. He just couldn’t let go.
He couldn’t bear to see their disappointment, couldn’t bear to see their pain.
But this reluctance to let go was, in itself, a kind of harm.
He sat back down on the sofa and buried his face in his hands.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, falling upon him, pleasantly warm.
But inside, he felt a bitter chill. He didn’t know what to do.
Meanwhile, after his heart-to-heart with Jiang Sifan, Lu Fan believed his son’s hatred for him must have lessened significantly.
He believed it wouldn’t be long before father and son made up completely.
Lu Fan’s private jet was preparing to land after a flight of over two hours when his phone vibrated.
He picked it up and saw it was a call from Pan Lanfang.
"Hello, Auntie?" he answered, his tone light.
On the other end of the line, Pan Lanfang’s voice was hushed and panicked. "Xiaolu, whatever you do, don’t come! Your uncle... he knows. He’s furious right now!"
Lu Fan sat up straight. "Auntie, calm down. What exactly happened?"
Pan Lanfang’s voice trembled. "He asked if you were Silu and Sifan’s real father. I told him no, but he didn’t believe me. He said that you haven’t visited in days and that I’ve been acting strange, so I must be hiding something from him. He... He’s just sitting in his room by himself now, not speaking to me."
"Auntie, don’t worry. I’ll come over and explain it to Uncle," Lu Fan replied.
Pan Lanfang grew frantic at his words. "Don’t come! You know his temper. It’ll only make him angrier if you show up now! Wait for him to cool off first..."
Lu Fan cut her off, his voice calm. "Auntie, he had to find out sooner or later. We can’t avoid it. Don’t worry, I know how to handle this."
"Xiaolu, Auntie’s just afraid you’ll be wronged..." Pan Lanfang fell silent for a long moment, her voice choked with emotion when she spoke again.
Lu Fan chuckled. "Auntie, I’m not afraid of being treated unfairly. My only fear is that Uncle won’t even give me a chance."
After hanging up, Lu Fan disembarked from the plane and said to Chen He, "Let’s go. To Qingshan Village."
Lu Fan leaned back in his seat, his face devoid of expression as he gazed out the window.
His fingers tapped a light, steady rhythm on his knee.
He didn’t know how Jiang Guoqiang would treat him.
Whether he was cursed at, beaten, or thrown out, he would accept it.
But he would not leave.
Lu Fan had waited nineteen years. After all this time, he had finally reached this day. He was not leaving.
