Chapter 463: Chapter 253: Jiang Guoqiang in Imminent Danger! Lu Fan Acts Swiftly
Jiang Ming nodded.
Lu Fan took Jiang Yixia by the arm and they left the hospital room.
The hallway was quiet, save for the occasional ringing of a phone from the nurse’s station.
The two of them walked side by side, neither saying a word.
Once they were outside the hospital entrance, Lu Fan asked, "What do you want to eat?"
Jiang Yixia shook her head. "I don’t have an appetite."
"You have to eat even if you don’t have an appetite. Your dad isn’t well yet. If you collapse, who will take care of him?" Lu Fan’s tone was a bit stern.
Jiang Yixia glanced at him but didn’t say anything more.
The two sat down at a small diner across the street from the hospital.
Lu Fan ordered a few light dishes: a bowl of congee, a portion of steamed egg, and a plate of green vegetables.
When the food arrived, Jiang Yixia picked up her spoon, took a sip of the congee, and frowned from the heat.
Watching her, Lu Fan suddenly said, "Don’t worry too much. I already asked the doctor. The snake venom isn’t that severe. They’ve administered the antivenom, and the swelling should go down in a couple of days."
Jiang Yixia kept her head down, stirring the congee in her bowl, and gave a muffled "mhm."
"Yixia," Lu Fan called out to her.
Jiang Yixia looked up.
"I’ll see this through with your father, don’t worry. Even if he doesn’t forgive me."
Jiang Yixia looked at him. After a moment’s hesitation, she still didn’t say anything.
She lowered her head and went back to her congee.
After they finished eating, the two returned to the hospital.
As soon as they entered the room, they heard Jiang Guoqiang losing his temper.
"I said I don’t need his help! Who told him to come? Tell him to leave!"
Pan Lanfang was beside him, trying to placate him. "He was kind enough to come visit you. Why are you throwing a fit?"
"I don’t need him to visit! I have my own daughter and son, I don’t need him!" Jiang Guoqiang’s voice was weak, but his anger was palpable.
Lu Fan stood at the doorway and didn’t go in.
Jiang Yixia glanced at him, then pushed the door open and went inside.
"Dad, please don’t be angry. The doctor said you shouldn’t get agitated." Jiang Yixia walked over and sat by the bed.
Seeing his daughter, Jiang Guoqiang’s anger subsided a little, but he remained stubborn. "Tell him to leave. I don’t want to see him."
Jiang Yixia sighed. "Dad, he’s the one who helped arrange for the hospital. If it weren’t for him, you’d still be waiting at the town clinic."
Jiang Guoqiang fell silent, but his expression was still grim.
Lu Fan remained at the door, showing no intention of coming in.
He glanced at Jiang Yixia, signaling for her to come out.
Jiang Yixia stepped out of the room and closed the door.
"I’m heading back for now. Call me anytime if you need anything," Lu Fan said with a small smile.
"Drive safe on your way back." After a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Yixia finally managed to say, her face flushing. She then turned and went back into the room.
Lu Fan stood in the hallway, watching her back for a moment before turning to leave.
Inside the room, Jiang Guoqiang was still sulking.
Pan Lanfang sat by the bed, wiping his hands as she chided him, "Honestly, your temper... That boy Xiaolu came all this way to see you, and you wouldn’t even let him in the door. Have you no shame?"
"What’s there to be ashamed of? It’s not like I asked him to come," Jiang Guoqiang grumbled.
Jiang Ming, who was standing nearby, couldn’t listen anymore. "Dad, stop being so stubborn. If it weren’t for President Lu, you’d still be lying in the town clinic. How could the county hospital have gotten you the medicine so quickly otherwise?"
Jiang Guoqiang retorted stubbornly, "What, does he own the county hospital? I came here, I’m a patient. You think the doctors wouldn’t have given me medicine?"
"He specifically arranged for doctors from several departments, and even the director, to monitor you. Do you think you’d get that kind of special treatment on your own?" Pan Lanfang shot back.
Jiang Guoqiang was left speechless. He opened his mouth, but in the end, just huffed, rolled over, and faced the wall.
Jiang Yixia shot Pan Lanfang a look, signaling her to stop talking.
Jiang Yixia sighed and sat down in a chair.
In the evening, a doctor came to do his rounds.
"Family of Jiang Guoqiang?"
"Here, here." Pan Lanfang scrambled to her feet.
"The patient’s condition is better than expected. His blood coagulation function has returned to normal, and the swelling in his ankle is also subsiding. We’ll observe him for another two days, and if there are no further issues, he can be discharged."
Pan Lanfang thanked him profusely. "Thank you, Doctor. Thank you so much."
After the doctor left, Pan Lanfang pressed her palms together and murmured "Amitabha" several times.
Afterward, Jiang Ming walked Old Zhao out.
Old Zhao explained, "President Lu said that he’s having a specialist come from Yangcheng tomorrow to check on your father, just to make sure everything’s okay."
Jiang Ming was stunned for a second, surprised. "He’s even calling in a specialist?"
"President Lu is still worried. He said the county hospital’s facilities are limited, and he’ll feel more at ease after a specialist takes a look." Old Zhao clapped Jiang Ming on the shoulder. "Your father is a lucky man. President Lu... he’s truly one of a kind."
Jiang Ming didn’t speak, just nodded, and saw Old Zhao to the elevator.
When he returned to the room, Jiang Guoqiang was already sitting up, propped against the headboard. His complexion looked a little better than it had that morning.
"Dad, Old Zhao said President Lu is having a specialist come from Yangcheng tomorrow to take another look at you," Jiang Ming said.
Jiang Guoqiang said nothing, a complicated expression on his face.
Pan Lanfang chimed in from the side, "See how considerate he is? And you still treat him with that attitude."
"Alright, alright, stop nagging," Jiang Guoqiang said, waving his hand impatiently.
That night, Jiang Yixia had Pan Lanfang and Jiang Ming go home to rest while she stayed to watch over her father.
The hospital room was silent except for the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor.
Jiang Guoqiang was asleep, his breathing steady.
Jiang Yixia sat by the bed when her phone screen lit up.
It was a message from Lu Fan: "How’s your dad doing?"
Jiang Yixia replied, "The doctor said he’s stable. The specialist is coming tomorrow."
Lu Fan wrote back, "That’s good. You should get some rest too. Don’t wear yourself out."
"Mhm," she typed.
A few seconds later, she sent another message: "Thank you."
Lu Fan sent back a smiley face emoji. "Still being so formal with me?"
Seeing the smiley face, Jiang Yixia replied stubbornly, "I wasn’t planning on being polite anyway. You owe me, after all."
After sending it, she couldn’t help but sneak a little smile.
