Chapter 369 The Betrayal She Felt
Chapter 369: Chapter 369 The Betrayal She Felt
Emilia’s POV
Everyone turned toward Abigail. My heart seemed to miss a beat, and my face went cold. For a moment, no one spoke.
"What does your pregnancy have to do with our family?" Titus demanded.
"It’s Sebastian’s child."
My knees gave way. I grabbed the back of a chair, but I couldn’t hold myself up.
"Emilia!" Sebastian caught me before I hit the floor and held me against his chest. "Don’t listen to her. She’s out of her mind."
"I’m perfectly sane. You know exactly what happened." Abigail raised her voice. "Do I need to show them the proof?"
She stared at his arms around me, her expression bitter.
"Get out," Sebastian snarled. He turned to the guard, who was still standing by the door. "Get her out of my house."
Two guards hurried forward and grabbed her arms. Abigail struggled as they pulled her toward the door.
"You think you can hide this?" she shouted. "Deny it, and I’ll go to the press. The whole city can see how heartless this family is. If you want a scandal, I’ll give you one!"
"Let her go." Mila crossed the room and stopped in front of her. "What proof do you have that this is my son’s child?"
Abigail pulled free and took a folded paper from her bag. "An ultrasound. I’m a month pregnant. Your son slept with me on July thirty-first. Work it out."
July thirty-first. The night Tiffany disappeared. The night Sebastian never came home.
He’d told me he’d drunk too much and passed out at a bar. That same night, a sudden pain had torn through my stomach. I’d doubled over in the dark, struggling to breathe, with no idea what was happening.
When your mate betrayed you, you felt it through the bond.
I couldn’t move. The dates made sense, and so did the pain, but I still couldn’t accept it. Sebastian wouldn’t do that to me. Not him.
Eve gave a quiet, hurt whine. "Emilia..."
"An ultrasound doesn’t prove who the father is," Mila said coldly. "Did you know your mother stood in this very room twenty years ago and tried the same thing?"
"Then we’ll wait until I’m three months pregnant," Abigail said. "They can take a sample of the amniotic fluid and do a DNA test."
She answered without hesitation. Mila’s expression changed, and Titus turned toward Sebastian.
"Did you sleep with her?" he asked quietly. "Tell us the truth."
He wanted a simple answer. I needed one too, but hearing him ask made it harder to breathe. Until then, some part of me had still been waiting for someone to explain why none of this could be true.
"Get her out of here." Sebastian’s eyes were red, and his hands shook against my back. He still hadn’t answered.
"If he won’t tell you, I will." Abigail reached into her bag again and pulled out several photographs. "Here’s your proof."
Mila took them. She and Titus looked down at the pictures, then at their son. Neither said a word.
I pulled away from Sebastian and walked toward them. My legs felt weak, but I kept going. I took the photographs from Mila, my hands shaking so badly that I could barely make out the images.
Then I saw them clearly.
My legs gave way again. This time, no one caught me.
Sebastian had to feel what this was doing to me. The bond worked both ways. He’d known what happened that night, yet he’d let me hold him, comfort him, and believe that all he needed was sleep.
He got up from the stool beside me and crossed the room. Before anyone could stop him, he grabbed Abigail by the throat and forced her onto her toes.
"I should have let you die that day."
She clawed at his hand. "Even if I die," she gasped, "at least I won’t die alone."
"Then die."
His grip tightened. Abigail’s eyes rolled back, and she could barely draw breath. Titus caught his arm and tried to pull him away.
"Enough. Killing her won’t change what happened."
"I won’t forgive anyone who hurts my mate." Sebastian growled .
Mila rushed behind him and wrapped both arms around him. "Sebastian, stop! She’s pregnant!"
Everyone was shouting now, but their voices seemed distant. I stayed on the floor, watching them move around me, unable to make myself get up.
Ten minutes ago, we’d been having breakfast. I’d eaten too much, and he’d pulled out my chair as though we had years of happy mornings ahead of us. How could everything change so quickly?
My sight began to blur. I tried to focus on the room, but the faces around me faded.
"Emilia!"
Titus called my name first. Then Sebastian shouted it, frightened and desperate, just before everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes, I didn’t know where I was. The lights above me were bright, and for a moment, I wondered if I’d died.
Heaven, maybe. It couldn’t be hell with lights like these. But if this was heaven, why did my chest still hurt? Wasn’t this supposed to be where the pain stopped?
No tears came. I lay there, unable to cry or move, with an ache so deep that nothing else seemed to matter. Someone could have cut me, and I wasn’t sure I would have reacted.
But it wasn’t only the betrayal. Another woman was carrying his child. She’d given him something I hadn’t been able to give him, at least not yet.
I’d only needed a few more days. Just until the blood moon.
I’d worked so hard for that chance, for us and the future we could have together. While he was away, I’d stayed awake making plans. I’d believed we were finally close.
Why did this keep happening? Every time happiness seemed within reach, something took it away. How many times was I supposed to start hoping again?
