Chapter 1573: Chapter 790: Enemy Internal Situation! (Part 2)
Lin Beichen said flatly that regardless of which mercenary group the opponent belonged to, if they didn’t release the people or harmed Li Kui and Tyson, he would make them pay a painful price.
It was natural for Lin Beichen to think this way since he didn’t know that Li Kui and Tyson had assumed false identities to join the opponent’s mercenary group, so there was no real danger.
Just as they were about to set off, the underling who was reporting suddenly remembered something and reminded, "By the way, Brother Lin, Brother Li specifically instructed to tell you about the size of this mercenary group base in detail."
"Oh?" Lin Beichen felt that his main base might have a lead upon hearing the underling say this.
Otherwise, Li Kui wouldn’t have specifically mentioned it.
"This base is called the Phoenix Mercenary Corps, and it’s much larger than our current base." The underling truthfully reported the previous situation he had learned to Lin Beichen.
The situation was pretty much as Lin Beichen had imagined, so it would be best to bring Ped’s group along.
Otherwise, there might be a tough battle.
A tough battle means that even if victorious, a heavy price has to be paid, which isn’t what Lin Beichen wants to see.
After all, his task isn’t just about winning this battle; there’s no need to deplete a large number of his troops here, as it would significantly affect future developments.
For even a moment, Lin Beichen considered infiltrating the opponent’s base alone to assassinate their high-ranking personnel.
However, he quashed this thought as soon as it emerged, because it would be too time-consuming.
The Milo Family and Beishi Mercenary Corps had done things like this, but they indeed had strong power and many underlings, so they could dismantle step by step; otherwise, charging ahead with people might result in lonely combat, as the underlings could all be dead.
But this Phoenix Mercenary Corps probably isn’t as formidable as the Milo Family or Beishi Mercenary Corps; otherwise, it wouldn’t be so obscure.
Still, Lin Beichen dared not take it lightly.
Lin Beichen dispatched someone to summon Ped’s group back, thus restoring his total number to five or six hundred people.
Although doing so might take a bit of time, it’s better to be cautious when necessary.
Then, Lin Beichen led these people, guided by the former subordinates of Li Kui, setting out from the base and heading towards the Phoenix Mercenary Corps’ base.
It seemed as though everyone anticipated that this would be a fierce battle, as throughout the journey, everyone remained silent, looking solemn.
However, on the land of the Golden Triangle, life-and-death struggle is but commonplace.
Moreover, in their hearts, there was a steadfast belief in Lin Beichen, who was invincible in battle.
Over five hundred people set out together, a scene both grand and intimidating.
Lin Beichen walked at the forefront of the gathering, marking his first time organizing such a large group to participate in combat.
Yet, inside, he felt no panic or fear because he understood that this was merely the beginning. In the future, he might lead even more, one thousand, two thousand, or even more.
Thinking about it, the current five hundred-plus people didn’t seem significant.
Nonetheless, Xu Qiang beside Lin Beichen was feeling somewhat uneasy. The full deployment of the Wolf Fang Mercenaries’ five hundred men made him both excited and anxious.
As Lin Beichen led the main army on the move, Li Kui, far away at the Phoenix Mercenary Corps, felt uneasy.
How come Brother Lin hasn’t shown up yet?
He looked around, trying to detect signs of tension from the expressions of others at the Phoenix Mercenary Corps. After all, if Lin Beichen arrived with troops and surrounded this place, they would surely react.
Yet, the base remained peaceful.
Tyson seemed to notice Li Kui’s confusion and quickly reassured him, "Brother Lin might be delayed by something. He should be there soon."
In any case, Tyson had been at the Phoenix Mercenary Corps for a while now, so he didn’t mind waiting a bit longer.
Upon hearing this, Li Kui thought it made sense and stopped worrying.
Sure enough, approaching dusk, Li Kui assumed Lin Beichen wasn’t coming to the Phoenix Mercenary Corps’ base today.
At this moment, a soldier hurriedly ran towards them, causing a glimmer to flash in Li Kui’s eyes.
Just as Li Kui anticipated, this underling from the Phoenix Mercenary Corps rushed to the middle-aged man beside him and reported, "Captain Qian, a large crowd of well-equipped people suddenly arrived outside the base, surrounding it tightly—not quite sure what their intentions are."
"The boss wants you in his office to discuss with the other captains."
The middle-aged man furrowed his brows slightly upon hearing this. The Phoenix Mercenary Corps hadn’t encountered such a situation—being blockaded at the base’s entrance—for a long time.
"Alright, I’ll go now," said the middle-aged man known as Captain Qian to the reporting underling. After speaking, he glanced at Li Kui and Tyson with somewhat odd expressions. But given the urgent situation, he couldn’t afford to think much more.
Thus, he said to Li Kui and Tyson, "You two haven’t been assigned to a team yet, right? Why don’t you join my team first?"
"Come with me to see the boss?"
Upon hearing this, Li Kui and Tyson felt elated. They were worried about how to get out and join Lin Beichen, but the opportunity came unexpectedly.
Naturally, they agreed without hesitation.
Subsequently, the two followed Captain Qian to a grand office. The office door was a deep red double-sided door, with long handles that suggested one would need considerable strength just to push the door open.
Standing on either side of the door were two stern-faced sentries, dressed in suits and sunglasses, with arms crossed before them.
Even someone familiar with the Phoenix Mercenary Corps like Captain Qian was subjected to a meticulous check for weapons upon entry.
Since Captain Qian had to be searched, Li Kui and Tyson were no exception.
Li Kui quite disliked others touching his body, except for pretty women.
But at the moment, they needed to follow Captain Qian inside and find a chance to slip out, so he had to endure it. With a displeased expression, he raised his hands, letting the two sentries search him.
After the search, the sentries flipped their palms, pointing to the door, signaling Captain Qian and his companions to proceed.
The three naturally pushed the door open and walked inside.
With one powerful push from Captain Qian’s strong hand, the heavy door swung open.
In view was a massive black wooden table.
Around the table sat many individuals, and upon entering, Captain Qian looked toward the front of the table. There sat a middle-aged man with an average build, sporting a long beard, with a resolute face that appeared chiseled and sculpted, eyes small but shining brightly, as if they were glimmering.
Captain Qian nodded towards this man, who reciprocated the nod, then gestured towards a vacant seat beside him, indicating for Captain Qian to sit down.
Without hesitation, Captain Qian motioned to Li Kui and Tyson and proceeded to the empty seat to sit.
Li Kui and Tyson naturally had no seat and could only stand behind Captain Qian, which made Li Kui feel somewhat displeased.
Although there were quite a few captains who brought their underlings inside, those underlings also had no seats and stood behind their captains.
However, those people were used to being underlings, always standing by. But Li Kui and Tyson were somewhat captains in Lin Beichen’s Wolf Fang Mercenaries; they usually had seats when Lin Beichen held meetings.
Accustomed to sitting, they naturally weren’t thrilled about standing now.
Next to Captain Qian sat a relatively young, clean-faced man, who also looked like a captain, although Li Kui and Tyson weren’t clear on his exact role.
This man looked at Captain Qian, then glanced at Li Kui and Tyson, smiling as he said, "Old Qian, how come I’ve never seen these two underlings of yours?"
"When did they join us here?"
Captain Qian glanced at the man, implying they didn’t have a harmonious relationship, and responded blandly, "Captain Hu, there are many brothers in the base that you don’t know."
"What’s it to you?"
Hu didn’t bother with Captain Qian’s opposition but continued, "Aren’t they newcomers?"
Realizing this guy had guessed correctly, Captain Qian felt increasingly displeased, but merely snorted and turned away, unwilling to engage further.
