Contract Marriage: Enemies With Benefits
Chapter 28: We are together
Seth stormed into the living room and swept Kira into a hug, "It’s fine. Don’t be scared. I am here..."
"Young Master Hawke, what is the meaning of this?" Daniel stood up, his face cold, "I am educating my daughter."
"If you have anything to say, say it to me," Seth looked at him impassively.
"Hah..." Daniel scoffed, "Because of you, both my daughters’ have their names and reputation dragged through the mud.
I never held it against you when you dated my younger daughter after breaking up with my elder daughter.
I thought you all are still young and it is only right to slowly figure your feelings. But I never thought you had wronged both my daughters!"
"I have never wronged Sienna," Seth declared, shocking everyone in the living room.
"In years of my relationship with her, nothing happened between us. Because the only person I loved since I returned from abroad was Kira. My relationship with Sienna was a mistake."
Daniel frowned, "Are you being sincere?"
"Yes."
"My daughter’s reputation is at stake, Seth. I need you to step up and take responsibility for it. You know what I mean, don’t you?"
Everyone in the room was stunned by the implication of those words.
"I will get to it," Seth cut her off, speaking with determination, "I will talk to my grandfather."
Once Daniel left, Beth walked to her daughter, "Don’t be fuming. You need to look graceful..."
"How can I be graceful when I know it’s all that bitch’s doing but I can do nothing about it?!" Kira seethed, "She shouldered the blame, and we gave our statements against her later.
We thought we pushed her name into the mud but it was her scheme all along and we walked into it!"
"Now the entire world is on her side. They think she is a good daughter who was willingly to keep quiet even after being wronged. And that I am a slut who climbed into her man’s bed!" Kira gnashed her teeth.
Thinking of something, she spoke again, "I had destroyed the footage of that night, mom. I don’t know how the bitch got her hands on it..."
"Kira," Beth cut her off in a warning voice as she looked around, "Quiet."
The woman pulled her daughter to the bedroom and locked the doors behind her, "Don’t lose your poise and temper over Sienna."
"Mom, don’t you see what she has done? She has single-handedly ruined my reputation..."
"No. She did not malign your name, she defended hers," Beth corrected, "If you don’t go provoking her, she would never lower her pride to come after you. Like her mother, she is too prideful to be an obstacle to us."
Kira sat on the bed, "I can’t see her win."
"How is she winning? You are the heiress of your father’s empire and the future daughter-in-law of the Hawke Family," Beth sat beside Kira as she smiled, "Sienna Qing... is done for."
...
Sienna and Callahan occupied the two opposite ends of the dining table as they ate in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.
Sienna stole a peek at the man. She hadn’t seen him the entire day so she thought he would probably stay out tonight.
But surprisingly, he showed up just when Thomas and Jane left. But he hadn’t spoken a word to her ever since.
Sienna thought for a moment before she opened her mouth, "Do you have work later?"
Callahan’s movements slowed. The man placed his spoon down, picked up a silk napkin and wiped his mouth, "Is there something you need me for?"
Sienna paused. Why did he make it sound like he was going to decide whether he had work or not based on whether she needed him... or not?"
She slammed the brakes on her wild thoughts as she shook her head, "These past few days, I haven’t seen you sleeping in the Master Bedroom."
She observed his expressions as she spoke but his face did not give anything away, "If it’s because of me, I can stay elsewhere. Thomas and Aunty Jane don’t stay here overnight most of the time so they won’t know."
"And we haven’t made our relationship public yet," Sienna added, "So, nobody will think that our marriage is fake."
"Do you think I won’t sleep in my room because of you?" Callahan’s face was frosty.
"_"
Sienna was bewildered. Why did he look like a cat whose tail was stepped on?
"I was just saying. Don’t take it to heart," she realized that she was being too meddlesome.
Whether he slept on his bed or not, did not have anything to do with her.
They were getting along well and that was one of the most important requirements of living together. It was better not to ruin it.
With that thought, she dropped the topic.
Later that night, Sienna decided to take a proper bath so she filled the bathtub with warm water, added some essential oils in it before climbing into it.
Her body relaxed and she leaned back on the tub. Thinking of something, she picked her phone from the adjacent table.
But she had just tapped on the news section when her phone rang.
"Karma is served! My heart is at peace watching that bitch-jerk pair be cursed left and right!’ Ava’s enthusiastic voice came from the other side, "Are you fine, Sisi?"
Sienna looked out of the window and glanced at the clear sky, "Surprisingly, I feel at peace." The kind she hadn’t felt in a long time.
Ava let out a relieved sigh, "That’s good. That’s good... But you still have some explanation to do. What’s going on between you and that Hellraiser and you?"
Sienna was speechless, "Can you not call him that so blatantly?"
"Why are you offended? Everybody called him that back in school. Wherever his name was involved, there would be chaos. You..." Ava went silent.
Sienna checked her phone to see that the call was still connected, "What happened?"
"Sisi, does he have something against you? Is he blackmailing you? Is he..."
"We are together."
