[FROLO]
The massacre at Moskowsky Holdings was the talk of the city even when morning came. It was one thing that raised a lot of questions about the government’s ability and its inability to take down just one man.
What had happened there was for the history books, and frankly it was not comforting at all for anyone.
The most important bit, however, was the fact that the accused had been attacked when they were surrendering. It was the only reason people weren’t as angry. Because everyone in Frolo knew better than to go after someone that Sergei loved or considered family.
And to do that in the middle of all that had just been the perfect recipe for disaster.
Frolo was conflicted.
There was no better way to look at this and be at ease because, at the end of the day, life had to go on. Life had to be worth something, but not where Moskowskys were involved.
Sergei Moskowsky had decapitated the governor on live television, and everyone was not sure what course of action to take. It was almost like everything they had done to this point had proven to be worthless.
Because if the government could send its best and brightest only to get them back in body bags, there was no telling what the hell was bound to happen anymore.
So many lives were at stake, and the government couldn’t even have a proper understanding anymore.
But then the government held a press conference.
To address what had happened.
The Moskowskys had yet to make their presser, and frankly it was sinister in so many ways. Because that was the kind of shit that no government should have allowed.
But did the government allow it, or were they simply beaten by the craziest of all creation?
"Hello, Frolo," their president greeted. He was not inside the State House, no. He was at an undisclosed location. In fact, even the feed that was being run was titled Secure Feed.
It was as if the president himself wasn’t ready to die at the hands of Sergei Moskowsky. It was a pitiful position they all were in.
"What happened yesterday should not have happened. The government acknowledges the surrender by the accused and what they did. But we cannot ignore the fact that we lost seven hundred and thirty-two soldiers inside that compound.
"Officials were murdered like they were livestock, and that is the kind of thing that we will not take lightly. As a matter of fact, the government has chosen to appoint former Senator Aleksandr Petrov to lead the operations to bring to justice the perpetrators of yesterday’s massacre.
"I know you are scared, but I trust that with the senator handling this, Frolo will be a safer city. So make sure to follow whatever he says. The office of the governor stays empty, but the former senator, Aleksandr, will be working independently.
"Not as a politician but as a citizen of Frolo who volunteered to lead the hunt. My apologies for what happened yesterday and my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Together we can make Frolo a better place.
"That is all from me. Until the next briefing, have a good day and trust the senator," the president said before his transmission was cut, leaving the city in the middle of a mess that the government itself had not even had the balls to make properly.
Understandably, Frolo had opinions.
And of course the nation’s favorite segment was back on with Sierra and a few other officials of the government. Former and current.
Among them...
Senator Aleksandr.
"The mood across the realm is a somber one, given the things that happened already. But today we have with us the former senator, Aleksandr," Sierra began.
"Hello, Sierra. It has been a while since I came back here. Especially since the last time I came, I was accused of being a member of the Bratva," Alek laughed amusedly.
"Well, the evidence was overwhelming at the time, though I must ask, for the sake of everyone else, Senator. Are you a member of the Bratva? Did the president just appoint someone who he considers rogue enough to march the Moskowskys?" Sierra asked.
"I am not and have never been part of any Bratva operations. Sure, I went to the Bratva one time to ask for help to deal with Sergei. But that was a blip in my judgment. I was jealous of Sergei and did whatever I could to maintain and save my relationship.
"Safe to say I was not only beaten up by the same Bratva, but I was also forced to give up the love of my life to a mad man," Aleksandr said, looking remorseful; you would think that all that happened had affected him too, and he wasn’t the key perpetrator.
"This admission, Senator... it is dangerous, don’t you think?" one of the politicians who had been invited said as he looked at the senator. It really was a dangerous game that Aleksandr was playing.
But did the former senator care?
"Maybe. But where we are, I believe my Bratva involvement out of romantic interest and Sergei massacring hundreds of our soldiers are not on the same page. We all saw what happened yesterday.
"Families have lost their daughters and sons because of Sergei," Aleksandr reasoned calmly, not once changing his stance.
"There is another part of this that people have been questioning," Sierra said, looking at the others before turning her attention to Aleksandr.
"You keep calling him Sergei. Not Mr. Moskowsky, Chairman Moskowsky, as the city has called him for years. Just Sergei. Why?" Sierra asked, like this was the moment things would either get better or worse.
But was there a distinction for that right now?
The little detail she had noticed had the guests shifting in their seats knowingly. Things like titles mattered in Frolo, and the fact that the senator was dropping it could only mean more than they were being told.
Still, they waited; after all, perhaps the senator had a good enough reason, right?
"I have known Sergei for years. I have worked around him, competed with him, fought with him, and unfortunately loved someone he eventually took from me.
"And after yesterday, giving him the dignity of a title would be insulting to the families who lost their children because of him," Aleksandr said, making Sierra raise a brow.
