Chapter 308 - 305: It Must Be the One Who Snatched My Earring
Chapter 308: Chapter 305: It Must Be the One Who Snatched My Earring
Song Yiguo thoughtfully stood up and said to Vice General Du behind him, "Take Xing Yue back to the hotel first, then rejoin us!"
Chen Xing couldn’t have been happier!
As she was the last to leave the private room, she released the two Little Black Cats.
To avoid arousing Cadar’s suspicion, she had the Little Black Cats linger in the private room for a while longer.
Back at the hotel, Vice General Du assigned a few men to protect Chen Xing before rushing off to rendezvous with Song Yiguo.
The moment Vice General Du left, she turned invisible and slipped out of the hotel.
Following the information from the Little Black Cats, she arrived outside a tall building in the North of the city.
The building was over ten stories tall and looked extremely dilapidated, its main entrance tightly shut. However... a security camera by the door was still rotating.
The two Little Black Cats were perched on a large, nearby tree.
After recalling them, Chen Xing slipped into the building.
Time was short, so Chen Xing activated her speed superpower and raced through the building.
She swept through all ten-plus floors in less than three minutes.
Finally, outside a reception room on the top floor, Chen Xing heard the voices of two women talking.
It seemed... their conversation was quite amicable.
Unexpectedly, there was no one standing guard outside.
’Maybe they’re afraid of someone overhearing their conversation?’
It seemed that despite talking for so long, neither of them had gotten to the main point.
They just kept chatting about things like the rules of survival in the apocalypse.
Cadar, in particular, repeated several times that Blake was her distant maternal uncle.
Her meaning was quite blunt: if Cheng Fang dared to double-cross her, the entire United States would not let her get away with it.
"So, you’re a world-renowned powerhouse, aren’t you?" Cheng Fang said with a faint, sincere-looking smile. "Don’t you worry. As long as the payment is verified on their end, I certainly won’t go back on my word. However..."
"However what?" Cadar asked, watching Cheng Fang cautiously.
"I assume you only offered such a high price because you know about this ring’s hidden ability, correct? I just want to know how you found out. Or... do you have something similar in your possession?" Cheng Fang stared at her without blinking.
’I knew it! She came to the auction for the ring because she knew something!’
Cadar no longer bothered to hide it. "I once saw a green gemstone necklace, which is why... I was willing to pay a high price for your ring."
"Oh? And what is the secret of that green gemstone necklace?" Cheng Fang felt she was finally on the right track.
She herself had never seen any other piece of Green Gemstone Jewelry. It was purely a coincidence: a few days ago, while passing through the Capital City on her way to the North, she’d run into an acquaintance. From that person, she heard that Cadar had lost her emerald earrings, which made her suddenly realize the collection wasn’t limited to just a ring.
Upon arriving in the North, she immediately had Yu Laosan spread the word across the globe, specifically announcing that an emerald ring was up for auction.
’Nothing ventured, nothing gained!’
She hadn’t been able to find a convincing fake on such short notice, so she had no choice but to risk the real one.
But... she felt it was worth it!
And now, Cadar had taken the bait.
But why would Cadar easily reveal what she knew? "The green gemstone necklace has a secret? I just have a particular fondness for emeralds. When I heard one was for sale, I rushed right over!"
"Miss Cadar, you’re not being honest!" Cheng Fang crossed her arms, smirking coldly at Cadar. "The fact that you lost your emerald earrings is hardly a secret anymore..."
Cadar was speechless. It had only happened a few days ago, and she hadn’t even notified Blake yet.
’Since she already knows, then this ring must have some secret as well!’
A Fire Ability immediately coalesced in her hand, and she smashed it down toward Cheng Fang’s head before she could react.
She was doing her best to keep the ring intact.
But Cheng Fang had anticipated the betrayal. As she dodged, a jet of water slammed into Cadar’s head.
Cadar scrambled to dodge.
The reception room, where the atmosphere had been pleasant just moments before, instantly became a battlefield of water and fire.
In an instant, Yu Laosan’s reception room looked as if it had been hit by a major catastrophe.
Some parts were scorched, others were flooded.
"Cadar, do you really think I’m afraid of you just because you have Blake’s backing? Don’t you know that the true global powerhouse now is the Xingguang Research Institute?" If Cheng Fang had been worried about Blake, she never would have lured Cadar here in the first place. "Hand over the emerald earrings and the necklace, and I’ll let you walk out of here alive!"
"Bullshit..." Cadar couldn’t believe Cheng Fang’s arrogance.
Just as she was about to retort, the sharp CRACK of a breaking bone was followed by Cheng Fang’s miserable scream.
The ring finger of Cheng Fang’s left hand, the one wearing the ring, was brutally snapped. As the severed finger hit the floor, the emerald ring vanished from before their eyes.
"Who’s there?!" Cadar shrieked in a panic, lunging wildly at the empty air and not forgetting to unleash several bursts of fire.
But... no one answered.
Only Cheng Fang’s agonized moans served as proof that an Invisible Man had just broken in and stolen the very thing they were fighting to the death for.
"It must be the one who stole my earrings!" Cadar roared hysterically.
She was on the verge of a breakdown!
She had only just found the ring, and it was gone again before she could even touch it.
The loss was crushing!
"Guards! Seal all the exits, now!" Cadar bellowed, not caring whose territory she was on.
She had forgotten that, in order to keep the ring’s secret, she had ordered everyone to wait on the floor below.
By the time the Superpower Users heard her shouts and arrived, there wasn’t a single trace of the intruder to be found.
Though Cheng Fang was in excruciating pain, her rational mind told her that Cadar had to be involved in this.
’Otherwise, how could the mysterious person have found this exact location so accurately, without anyone spotting them?’
Seeing Cadar about to leave with her people to give chase, she immediately blocked their path, ignoring the blood still streaming from her severed finger. "You think you can just run off after stealing my property?"
She couldn’t believe she had miscalculated so badly, even losing the ring in the process.
Cadar: "..."
"I didn’t do it!" she shouted furiously.
She had never felt so wronged in her life.
Not only had her own treasure been stolen, but now the one she’d practically bankrupted herself to buy was gone too.
And now she was being accused of stealing it herself?
"If not you, then who? No one knew about this place besides Yu, yet my ring gets stolen the moment you arrive?" Cheng Fang raised her bloody hand, anger and tears streaming from her eyes. "Stealing it is one thing, but my finger was broken, too! Today, you either leave the ring, or you leave a hand. Otherwise, don’t even think about leaving this place!"
"You don’t have what it takes to keep my hand!" When it came to ruthlessness, Cadar had never feared anyone. "Kill them!"
Receiving the command, the bodyguards fanned out and began to fight Yu Laosan’s Superpower Users.
The people Cadar brought were indeed formidable, quickly beating Yu Laosan’s Superpower Users into a steady retreat. "I’m in a hurry to chase my treasure today," she snarled. "The next time we meet, you’d better watch your worthless neck!"
Leaving behind those vicious words, Cadar departed with her people.
Cheng Fang was speechless. Looking at the room full of useless thugs, her heart was heavy with frustration, and her finger throbbed with pain.
