Chapter 336: Chapter 334: Childhood Friend

Although she had entered the space, Chen Xing heightened her awareness of her surroundings.

If anything got close, she would know immediately.

After more than two hours of peace and quiet, Chen Xing sensed something approaching.

She immediately exited the space and lay down on the front seat.

Lifting the black curtain to look outside, she saw a figure only a dozen or so meters from the car.

Chen Xing watched the person intently.

The man was about five-foot-three, his hair meticulously combed flat against his scalp...

If she remembered correctly, this person was one of Yu Laosan’s men.

He was the one from the auction she had zapped, the one who had still managed to escape. He looked somewhat familiar to her.

’Yu Laosan is dead. Who has he pledged allegiance to since then?’

Wanyan came to a sudden halt two meters from the car.

He sensed the person inside the car was already awake.

For about two minutes, they remained locked in a standoff, both perfectly still.

’Is he here to steal the emerald earrings for himself?’

’Otherwise, with so many people tracking her, why would he be the only one to make a move?’

Chen Xing had no idea where he got his confidence.

Just when Chen Xing thought they might remain in a standoff all night, Wanyan spoke. "Chen Xing, I remember you!"

Those words, "I remember you," instantly sparked a flicker of anticipation in Chen Xing.

She didn’t trust what Xu Anguo had told her, but other than him, it seemed no one truly remembered her or knew anything about her past.

Now that someone had suddenly popped up claiming, "I remember you," how could she not be hopeful?

Besides, she suspected this man was one of the "lab rats," too.

Chen Xing sat up straight, rolling down the window to look at him.

Wanyan didn’t move. Instead, hoping to convince her, he continued, "I escaped from the Xingguang Research Institute... If my memory serves me right, you escaped from there too, didn’t you?"

Chen Xing’s hand on the door handle tightened, but her expression didn’t change in the slightest.

"You don’t believe me?" A trace of sadness flickered in Wanyan’s eyes.

To be honest, his eyes were so small that Chen Xing couldn’t see any sadness in them at all.

"Can we talk somewhere more private?" Wanyan glanced behind him, reminding her that they were being watched.

It was a warning to be careful and not so reckless, regardless of whether she invited him in.

"Get in," Chen Xing finally said, prompted by his various hints.

Wanyan immediately walked over and sat down in the passenger seat.

"I’m Wanyan. You’ve probably seen me before." He extended his hand to Chen Xing in a friendly gesture.

But Chen Xing didn’t take his hand, only nodding. "In Green City..."

Wanyan didn’t seem embarrassed. He withdrew his hand and eagerly warned her, "It’s too dangerous for you to be out here alone. Do you have any idea how many people are tracking you?"

’And you’re one of them!’

Chen Xing shook her head as if she didn’t know. "What exactly do you remember about me?" she asked, cutting to the chase.

Wanyan was speechless. ’The fact that she isn’t surprised at all... does that mean she already knew someone was following her?’

’What does that imply?’

’That she’s not afraid of her pursuers in the slightest?’

Quickly pushing his doubts aside, Wanyan said, "When we were about six or seven years old, we attended class, slept, and played together in the laboratory... Do you remember?"

Chen Xing turned to look at Wanyan, her expression completely blank.

Wanyan continued with a regretful tone, "You were so small back then, always trailing after me and calling me Brother Yan. Whenever you got angry, I was the only one who could make you happy again by calling you Little Chen Xing..."

His delivery was full of vivid emotion.

Listening to him made Chen Xing want to punch someone.

’Little Chen Xing?’

’If you’re going to lie, shouldn’t you at least get the name right?’

’Still... when he was talking about the Research Institute just now, some of it didn’t sound like a fabrication.’

’The chance that he came from the Research Institute was high, but he definitely wasn’t sent by Xu Anguo.’

’That man, Xu Anguo, is ruthlessly cunning. He would never send someone without getting the details straight first.’

"What else do you remember?" Chen Xing’s tone was still cold.

"I don’t remember much, but... I do remember Lu Haoran... his codename was 00005, and the other man with you in Green City was 00006!"

At this, Chen Xing could barely control her emotions.

She stared at Wanyan in astonishment.

"It just came to me by chance, and I’m not entirely sure!" Wanyan explained.

That much was true.

He had thought the two men looked familiar when he saw them in Green City. After being injured by Chen Xing during his escape, he had fallen unconscious.

It was during this time that he recalled his childhood playmates: 00005, 00006, and Chen Xing, 00007.

But... it wasn’t as wonderful as he had made it sound.

In reality, Lu Haoran and the two others, along with 00008 and a few more, had been a tight-knit group.

He was the one they excluded. As for why, he couldn’t remember.

Because of this, it seemed his younger self had hated them immensely.

That was why... he didn’t even know Chen Xing’s name.

Chen Xing saw the hatred that unintentionally surfaced in his eyes. It was a long-buried resentment, unlike the blank-slate "lab rats" she knew.

Even Lu Haoran, who moved through a world of fame and fortune, wasn’t like this.

Suddenly, she had no desire to listen to his nonsense anymore. "Since you remember so much, how come my name is the one thing you can’t seem to recall?"

’Even if he really was her childhood playmate, he had changed.’

Wanyan was still trying to control his emotions, hoping for a more heart-stirring reveal, when Chen Xing suddenly hit him with that question.

He was stunned for a long moment, replaying his own words to find the mistake.

’Little Chen Xing... How could I forget? Chen Xing has no memories; her name must have been given to her later on.’

Now that his lie was exposed, he dropped the act.

He suddenly laughed right at Chen Xing.

The laugh nearly scared Chen Xing to death.

’Damn it, his laugh is creepier than a ghost’s. It’s utterly bone-chilling!’

Just then, a peculiar fragrance wafted through the car.

Chen Xing knew instantly he was pulling his old tricks to try and knock her out.

She had just reached to open the door and get out when he seized her wrist.

Her head was spinning violently, so Chen Xing vanished into the Jiezhi Space in a flash.

Wanyan was dumbfounded. The person he had grabbed had vanished into thin air.

An Invisible Man could also vanish, but the wrist he was gripping couldn’t have just slipped free.

Besides, he hadn’t seen the car door open.

Chen Xing took a drink of spring water, and her head instantly cleared.

’Even if he was a "lab rat," Chen Xing had no intention of letting him get away with this.’

’There were good "lab rats" and bad ones. If she let Wanyan go, he would get people killed sooner or later.’

Chen Xing reappeared in the car’s back seat, but she was invisible.

Before she could even make a move, Wanyan sensed the danger and disappeared in a flash.

As Chen Xing pinpointed his invisible form and was about to attack, he threw open the door and fled the car.

As he left, he casually tossed a bomb inside.

Chen Xing had already entered the Jiezhi Space before her Defense Shield could even activate, and she casually tossed a grenade at Wanyan as she went.
