Chapter 812: There Is No Right or Wrong, Only Results

  • Next Chapter

Perhaps it had already begun long ago.

From the moment he first revealed his ability to purge curses, it seemed that he had already begun charting the course of his own future.

They gathered around him for the sake of their own hopes, becoming members of his large family either willingly or unwillingly. It also seemed that only because of his existence could one proud god after another, despite being opposed to one another and constantly clashing, willingly stand at his side and watch over the light in his eyes.

As if he were the only being capable of smiling even in hell.

At least, at this moment.

That family, destined to embark upon the journey home, seemed to be revealing their future to this hell for the first time.

They had sharp fangs.

Yet they also held flower buds in their hands.

They gazed fearlessly at that sky.

Above the dense black mist, beneath the colors of what seemed to be eternal chaos, the Clown still stood upon his shoulder. He quietly looked down below, his gaze seemingly able to pierce through the endless black mist and meet those smiling eyes.

“So, are we not going to do anything?”

The Clown licked the corner of his mouth as he looked down upon the city.

“He really is beginning to resemble that one more and more... It is difficult for me not to feel afraid. You want to hasten his revival, yet you have inevitably pushed him to the opposing side. If one day they truly gather all the Roots and launch an attack against this hell, how will you deal with it? You are... You are...”

The Pig-Headed Butcher calmly looked down at the black mist and said, “There is no right or wrong, only results.”

“To preserve the balance of this mechanism and prevent it from being broken, to forbid any Old God from stepping out, and to allow him to grow and revive within this hell, these are the Master’s orders. They must never be violated, not even after ten thousand ages.”

The Clown seemed to be crying and laughing at the same time as he said, “So even if that Calamity descends, it will still be the same? The mechanism of the Great Purge has already been broken for thousands of years. Do we still have to hold fast to it?”

The Pig-Headed Butcher looked down indifferently. “The same.”

So if one day he truly brought those prisoners to attack this hell, he would certainly stand in their way.

But he would not deliberately stop them.

Because this was originally part of his revival and growth. It was his own fate.

He calmly turned around, raised his head, and gazed into the chaotic colors spanning the entirety of Hell’s Borderlands. Then he knelt on one knee, as if he had eternally been kneeling here even before awakening, the vast colors reflected in his eyes.

“This is my fate as well.”

...

The surging black mist gradually subsided.

The cold wind sweeping through all of Nightfall City also slowly faded away.

That strange sensation gradually vanished into nothingness as the wind died down.

A bead of sweat.

Dripped from Sir Aiwen’s cheek.

The solemnity in the eyes of the Colossus’s Brain at his side seemed like an unmelting mass of dark clouds, while every muscle in her body was tensed to the extreme.

“That feeling of being watched... It is gone.”

Sir Aiwen spoke heavily.

Yet that hair-raising sensation continued to echo in their hearts for a long time.

Lynn smiled faintly. Then, as if he had expected this from the beginning, he dropped back down onto the ground, the branch still clenched between his teeth, and said, “It is fine. They were only trying to scare you a little. But this also proves from another angle that we are probably living under their surveillance at all times. It is certainly irritating, but it also seems that there is nothing we can do about it. So let them do as they please.”

“Although the specific reason still needs to be deduced, at least this proves one thing. Before we truly attack the border of hell, this hell probably will not actually do anything to us.”

He spread his hands.

“After all, right now, we are all well-behaved prisoners~”

But Sir Aiwen and the others remained silent.

It was difficult for them to be as optimistic and composed as Lynn. The gaze from a moment ago had been like a tremendous warning, a form of intimidation.

If that was the challenge they would have to face in the future...

And this was merely this hell.

What kind of terror would the crazed colors higher in the sky represent?

“Hey, hey, hey! Stop looking like you have all been scared out of your wits, will you? I was scared the first time I was watched too, but I... I... Uh...”

Lynn rubbed his chin.

He remembered the state he had been in when his legs went weak and his entire body collapsed.

He seriously picked up the branch and said, “But is this not a form of encouragement? The powerful enemy is right there, even flexing its muscles for us to see. Should we not strive forward with even greater determination, overcome every difficulty with an unyielding spirit, and finally pin it beneath us and ruthlessly trample it into the dirt?! Hm?!”

Sir Aiwen and the others looked at one another, exchanging bewildered glances.

Yet they could not help being amused by his solemn and utterly serious expression, leaving them at a loss for words.

Sir Aiwen drew in a breath, shook his head with a mixture of amusement and helplessness, and sat down as well.

That was why, sometimes, they felt that this fellow really did seem to possess a natural air of leadership. Although his usual antics made it difficult to believe that he was reliable, whenever the situation called for it, he always seemed able to stir up the atmosphere within a team, making them laugh with him, cry with him, and feel as though they had forgotten that they were in hell.

He really was...

A fellow who was impossible to describe.

“There is still one more problem.”

As if he had remembered something, Sir Aiwen’s expression grew serious once more. He looked at Lynn and said, “Although you confirmed through that provocation that some kind of connection exists between you and this hell, what comes afterward? In other words, hell obeyed the words you wrote. But if that is the case...”

“Your... backlash?”

In an instant.

Everyone’s gaze fell upon him once again.

Zuo Zuo had told them about the words he had written with that quill. What he had written was that all the backlash suffered by the quill would be transferred onto himself. Since hell had agreed to it, did that not mean...

Under everyone’s aggressive, pressing gazes, Lynn shook his head with helpless amusement and said, “It took me so much effort to steer the topic somewhere else. Why are you bringing it up again? Honestly...”

Seeing Sir Aiwen’s gaze grow even more severe, Lynn had no choice.

He could only shake his head and say, “The backlash is indeed still inside me. However, unlike the quill’s backlash, it did not take effect immediately. I was given some time to deal with it. If we exclude the few days I was unconscious, there are roughly three days left before the backlash descends upon me.”

Everyone’s eyes instantly went blank.

The next moment.

Before Lynn could say anything else, several Roots rushed toward him as if they had exploded. The Titan Head immediately wrapped Lynn up in a loud, clattering coil, its furious breath blasting over Lynn like a dragon’s exhalation as he shouted with eyes bulging with rage:

“What did you say?!”

“You kept hiding such an important matter?! I thought you were fine! So it turns out you are already almost dead!”
