Chapter 924: Ch 923: Jeanne d'Arc

Beyond Outer Gate 3345, the Little Garden central core stepped in. Chaos began to separate, and the sky settled into clarity.

A blonde girl in rough linen clothes walked barefoot across the newborn land until she stood before Saint George.

"Looks like it's all over." Jeanne d'Arc spoke calmly to the knight in frost-white armor.

George coughed a few times, looked down at the dark brown blood in his palm, and let out a bitter laugh. He raised his head and looked around. "I thought this was just a slightly annoying relocation job, and then..."

He trailed off. It was a long while before he finally sighed.

It was supposed to be an Ouroboros mission, and he'd ended up dragged into a civil war among the Greeks.

He had never wanted any part of the clash between Zeus and Ryo, and he'd walked away with a body full of disease for his trouble.

Honestly, this was the worst mission he'd ever taken.

"Would you like me to cure you, Saint George?"

The barefoot girl drew out a battle banner with a white field and a golden fleur-de-lis design.

George waved off the kindness of his assistant and struggled to his feet. "I'm the patron saint who protects believers from disease. It'd be a dereliction of duty to lose to one myself."

"In that case, sir, could you stand a bit farther away from me?"

The resolve on George's face froze.

Jeanne's expression didn't change at all as she went on. "I'm sorry to be so cold about it, but the concept of disease clinging to you is just too strong. As a saint, I can't have anything like syphilis or venereal disease associated with me. You understand what I'm saying, right?"

George opened his mouth, closed it, and gave a thoroughly gloomy sigh. He backed away from Jeanne.

Kids these days were getting less and less cute...

Tap. Tap.

Footsteps rang out, deliberate and pointed.

Jeanne and George turned at the same time and looked at the black-haired young man in divine armor.

Under the brilliant sunlight, his spotless, gleaming armor made a striking impression.

Looking at that figure, George, riddled with disease, opened his mouth and then closed it again without a word.

Jeanne instinctively tightened her grip on the flagpole, then let go the next second and planted the flag in the ground beside her.

The flag was still within easy reach, but with that white field on it, Jeanne trusted that Ryo, once a modern person himself, would understand what it meant, French-style.

As Ryo strolled over, Jeanne's expression eased a little. "Congratulations on fulfilling your mission, Greek God-King."

Now that was emotional intelligence. The cursed cycle of Greek god kings murdering their predecessors had become "fulfilling the mission of the Greek God King" in Jeanne's mouth. Truly the legendary saint who started with a sheep and liberated France, her way with words was something else, George grumbled to himself on the sidelines.

The one being flattered, however, didn't look the least bit pleased.

"You think I killed Zeus?"

Jeanne caught the meaning beneath his words. She gave him a long look, studied the calm face before her, and said quietly, "In the eyes of the gods, at least, he's already dead."

"I hope they actually think so." Ryo kept walking as he spoke, only stopping once he was three meters from her.

"Do you want to keep going?"

He looked down at the girl, who stood barely five foot three. He wasn't being overbearing, but there was no room for refusal in his words.

Jeanne looked at Ryo, then at the divine armor on his body, and asked with forced calm, "What's it called?"

"It doesn't have a name." Ryo glanced down at the armor, then said evenly, "If you really need to call it something, Saint Cloth works. So does Cosmo Armor."

Jeanne let out a breath. She hadn't really expected him to answer, but since he had, things were simple now.

Her face went blank again as she spoke. "Since the task issued from above, the preliminary survey of the Greek fourth-generation Cosmology has been basically completed; we will now invoke Article Six of the Community's code: after a mission is complete, all personnel must avoid any unnecessary conflict with the major god groups."

"In accordance with this article, we are abandoning all supplies in Outer Gate 3345 and prioritizing the withdrawal of our senior combat strength."

"Sir, as the operative in charge, do you have any objections to this decision?"

'Huh? Does Ouroboros even have a rule like that?'

George blinked, then said a little stiffly, "No objections."

"Good. And since the supervising officer has fallen in battle, I, as support staff, will temporarily take over supervisory authority." As she spoke, a black scroll appeared in Jeanne's hand as if from nowhere. She glanced at Ryo, pressed her handprint onto it, and tossed it to George.

George stared at the handprint with a strange look. Remembering Jeanne's "indifference" a moment ago, he simply took out a quill and signed his name, deliberately using the oldest, most godlike script.

Jeanne raised an eyebrow at that but said nothing. She silently caught the scroll he threw back, sighed, and took a white Gift Card out of the empty air beside her.

"Including former members of Arcadia, a total of three thousand people detained by Ouroboros are here."

"As for the other supplies..."

She paused and shot Ryo an odd look. "Half of them were already taken by Lady Shiroyasha. The other half were moved by Queen Halloween."

She paused again, her expression turning subtle. "That just happened a moment ago."

Ryo's mouth twitched. He could understand Shiroyasha taking some, but what was the Queen doing here?

Wait. Had Queen Halloween been with Shiroyasha just now?

It was a miracle those two had met without coming to blows.

Jeanne shook her head. "I don't know what the Queen is thinking, but before she took the supplies, she left a message."

Her voice was completely flat as she delivered it. "'If you want these supplies, come and get them yourself in Avalon.'"

"Well, I've passed the message on." Jeanne bowed to Ryo, then turned away. "May fortune favor your battles!"

Before leaving, Jeanne returned the city's concept of existence. The bustling metropolis came back, and the sight of traffic and crowds filled the streets in front of Ryo once more.

At the same moment, he noticed that Saint George beside her had vanished without a trace.

Ryo didn't try to stop them. With his goal achieved, he had no wish to stir up another conflict with Ouroboros.

He watched the noisy crowds around him, the laughter and chatter filling the streets, and suddenly muttered, "Every single person in Little Garden is sharper than the last."

With that, he sighed and turned to leave.
