Lingxiao City.

The sky was just beginning to lighten. White clouds drifted like colts, and birds shot across the vast sky, their passage marked by the whistle of Powerful Qi as they sped toward the distant horizon.

At that moment, high in the sky, a handsome, white-robed figure stood wreathed in a hazy glow. Exuding a terrifying Dao Rhythm, his eyes were fixed upon the plain-faced, black-robed man before him.

Following a soft cry from Gu Yun, a thunderous roar filled the black-robed man’s mind, which promptly went blank. He slowly raised his head, his hollow gaze drifting toward Gu Yun.

“Soul-Devouring and Essence-Swallowing Technique!”

A dark light flickered in Gu Yun’s eyes as his formidable Divine Sense instantly flooded the black-robed man’s mind. In a flash, it devoured the man’s memories as easily as splitting bamboo.

He even felt his own Divine Sense grow slightly. Afterward, Gu Yun withdrew his Divine Sense from the man’s mind. He gazed with cold eyes at the other’s utterly stupefied expression and vacant stare—a walking corpse. He couldn’t help but lick his lips.

‘Devour memories, and my Divine Sense grows…’

‘I didn’t expect such a side benefit,’ Gu Yun mused to himself. He then looked at the man, who was now a mere shell of a body, his Spiritual Sense completely annihilated.

‘This Soul-Devouring and Essence-Swallowing Technique is truly domineering. It feels like something from a demonic path,’ Gu Yun murmured inwardly. But he then gave a slight shake of his head. ‘As long as a Cultivation Technique is useful to me, I’ll use it. Am I supposed to not use it just because it seems a bit demonic? What a joke.’

Then, Gu Yun turned to look southeast, beyond Lingxiao City. Arcs of thunder flickered in his profound eyes, piercing through the void itself, as if he could see the Qiu Long Mountain Range hundreds of thousands of miles away.

At the same time, a solemn look filled his eyes.

Just now, from the memories of that black-robed Demon Fiend—who was disguised so perfectly as a member of the Human Race that an ordinary person could never tell the difference—he had learned something.

An extremely powerful Demon Fiend was hiding within the Qiu Long Mountain Range, which spanned hundreds of thousands of miles. Furthermore, it was planning to activate a Blood Sacrifice Array in Lingxiao City to immolate the city’s entire population of tens of millions!

“These Outer World Demon Fiends are truly ruthless.”

“They don’t even see humans as people,” Gu Yun said, his face impassive and his eyes flashing with killing intent. His voice was chilling. “But since I’m here, your doomsday has arrived.”

He wasn’t some bleeding-heart saint, but knowing that the Demon Race from beyond the Domain planned to sacrifice tens of millions of the Human Race, how could he turn a blind eye when he had the power to intervene?

Seeing this Alien Race treat the Human Race as mere cattle for slaughter, refining them like precious medicines to enhance their own power—how could he remain indifferent to such acts?

Besides, while that Blood Nether Celestial was powerful, Gu Yun was no pushover either.

Worst case scenario, if he truly couldn’t defeat his opponent, he wouldn’t hesitate to flee to save his own life.

He might not be capable of dying for the greater good of all living beings, but if he had the power, he was willing to stand up for them!

“Qiu Long Mountain Range, Blood Nether Cave Celestial…” Gu Yun murmured. A tangible killing intent flickered in his eyes, and under its immense pressure, the surrounding space faintly distorted and collapsed, revealing an endless, pitch-black abyss.

‘Looks like I still need to find someone to discuss this with and make the necessary arrangements.’

With this in mind, Gu Yun waved his hand, stowing the lifeless body of the black-robed man—which moved like a walking corpse—into his Storage Ring.

He took a single step forward, sending out ripples like those on water. His figure seemed to pass through space itself, vanishing from the spot in an instant.

…

In Baiyujing stood a twelve-story jade pavilion with green tiles, crimson roof beams, and ornate balustrades. The building was as majestic and imposing as a divine dragon. Carriages and people bustled around it, and a never-ending stream of Cultivator guests passed through its doors.

At this moment, inside a fragrant and luxurious private room on the twelfth floor, the air rippled, and Gu Yun’s figure suddenly appeared. Sitting opposite the white jade table was the Du Family Ancestor, a man with a long white beard and hair, a wizened face, and eyes that revealed the vicissitudes of time.

“Fellow Daoist, you handle matters with the speed of wind and lightning.”

Du Yuan waved a wizened arm through the air, channeling a thread of Magical Power to slowly pour the contents of a bottle of Celestial Spirit Ancient Tea from the table into Gu Yun’s White Jade Tea Cup. He then sighed softly.

The man had left in such a hurry that Du Yuan had assumed some major, urgent matter had arisen which would take a great deal of time to resolve. He had been prepared to wait for three days, figuring Gu Yun wouldn’t be back anytime soon.

But to his surprise, Gu Yun had returned in less than the time it takes to burn an incense stick.

“Haha, a sudden inspiration moved me to go take a look. I didn’t expect to make such a surprising discovery,” Gu Yun said. He raised the White Jade cup filled with Celestial Spirit Ancient Tea, drained it in one gulp, and then said softly, “Please, take a look at this.”

As he spoke, Gu Yun waved his hand, teleporting the black-robed man—whose gaze was hollow and expression utterly wooden, with no discernible aura—and placing him on the floor.

“This… is?” Du Yuan asked doubtfully, his initial scan of the black-robed man revealing nothing out of the ordinary.

“This Celestial Spirit Ancient Tea from Baiyujing is truly extraordinary,” Gu Yun said with a smile, taking a small sip. He felt his Magical Power increase by a sliver. “Why don’t you try to perceive him more closely?”

Hearing this, Du Yuan was skeptical but intrigued. Gu Yun had gone to the trouble of leaving and returning; he surely wouldn’t try to deceive him. With that, Du Yuan’s Divine Sense surged forth like a vast river, pouring into the man’s entire body. A moment later, his pupils contracted sharply. “This is… a Demon Fiend!” he exclaimed in shock.

Upon closer inspection, he quickly detected the core power within the black-robed man. It was saturated with an extremely dense Demon Power, equivalent to a Half-Step Tongxuan Cultivation.
