Ling Yueyue furrowed her brows tightly, snapping impatiently, "Don’t answer it, pull the phone cord out!"

"Yes, ma’am!" The housekeeper nodded, bent down, and unplugged the landline cord at the back.

Once the cord was pulled, Ling Yueyue thought the world would finally quiet down! Unexpectedly, barely a minute passed before the phone in Huo Junmo’s pocket started ringing.

The housekeeper, Ling Yueyue, and Huo Jiantian all turned their eyes toward Huo Junmo at the same time.

Huo Junmo took out his phone and glanced at the caller ID. Before he could speak, Ling Yueyue immediately craned her neck to check his phone. The moment she saw that familiar string of digits, her whole face went completely dark. "What the hell do they want now? Does this ever end? They just can’t stop, can they?"

Huo Junmo mused, "Since they’ve called me now, I guess it must be something very important."

"No matter how important it is, it has nothing to do with me!" As she spoke, she snatched the phone from Huo Junmo’s hand, hung up, then in one go added all three numbers from Ling’s father’s home to the blacklist.

After she finished setting everything up, Ling Yueyue shoved the phone back into Huo Junmo’s hand and warned fiercely, "Let me warn you, if you dare call them back, don’t blame me for getting nasty with you!"

"How would I dare go against my dear wife’s orders? Relax, I won’t call them back!" With that, Huo Junmo slipped the phone straight back into his pants pocket.

Hearing his assurance, Ling Yueyue nodded in satisfaction, stuffed Tiantian into his arms, rubbed her shoulder with her hand, and asked the housekeeper, a bit tired, "Housekeeper, is dinner ready? We’ve been playing all day, I’m exhausted and starving. I just want to hurry up, eat my fill, then go upstairs and have a good rest!"

The housekeeper nodded. "Dinner is ready. You can eat now!"

"Mm." Ling Yueyue nodded, went to the bathroom to wash her hands first, then sat down at the table for dinner.

After handing Tiantian over to the nanny, Huo Junmo went to wash his hands with Huo Jiantian, and then they sat down at the table.

Huo Jiantian held his bowl, chopsticks between his teeth, blinking his big watery eyes at Ling Yueyue. After a long moment, he still couldn’t hold back and asked, "Evil stepmom, tell me, what do those shameless fake parents of yours want, calling you like that? Don’t tell me they’re trying to get money out of you again?"

Ling Yueyue couldn’t help rolling her eyes, and said sourly, "How should I know! Ever since that fake mother of mine came over last time and told me the whole truth, I haven’t seen them again! It’s been almost two months—who the hell knows why they suddenly called me! I may not know why they’re calling, but I do know one thing: whenever they come looking for me, it’s never for anything good!"

Huo Jiantian pouted angrily. "They’re really shameless. After treating you like that, they still have the face to call you! If I were you, I’d definitely curse them out properly over the phone. Otherwise it’s just not balanced in here!"

"What’s there to be unbalanced about? If a dog bites you, are you going to bite it back? We’re human; why bother stooping to the level of animals!" Then she suddenly thought of something and added, "Oh... I misspoke, we shouldn’t insult the animals. They’re not even as good as animals."

After finding out they weren’t her biological parents, looking back at everything they’d done, she really felt they weren’t even as good as beasts.

They knew full well they weren’t her real parents, yet they still demanded money from her so righteously! And when she turned eighteen, they actually sold her off for a measly hundred thousand!

So after learning the truth, instead of feeling upset, she actually felt lucky not to have parents like them.

Hearing her description, Huo Jiantian burst out laughing. "Hahaha, you nailed it—worse than animals! The first time I saw them I already hated their guts! Later at Tiantian’s full-month banquet, when I heard what they said about Tiantian, I hated them even more!"

"Enough, quit talking and eat! We’ve been playing all day, I’m seriously dead tired! Once I eat, I have to go back to the room and rest right away!" With that, she stopped paying attention to Huo Jiantian and buried her head, shoveling rice into her mouth in big mouthfuls.

The family of three finished their meal in silence. Wiping the grease from the corner of his mouth, Huo Junmo said gently, "I’m going to Jiangcheng on a business trip in a few days. Come with me! Jiangcheng is a tourist city with lots of scenic spots. Once I’ve settled things over there, I’ll take you around to have some fun and clear your head."

At the mention of going out to play, Ling Yueyue’s eyes instantly lit up. "Really? You’re really going to take us with you?"

Smiling, Huo Junmo nodded. "Yeah. Too much has happened lately; it’s about time we went out to unwind. Once we get back, we can forget all the unpleasant stuff."

Ling Yueyue pouted, protesting, "What unpleasant stuff do I have? You think I’d let those unimportant people affect my mood? No way! But... I’ve been cooped up at home for ages. From pregnancy till now, Tiantian’s this big already, and all I’ve done is stay home or go out to buy clothes for Tiantian and Tiantian. It’s boring me to death, I really do want to go out and have fun! Besides, I remember Anxin talking about Jiangcheng before—she said the scenery is beautiful, especially the night view by the river, it’s supposed to be stunning! I’ve always wanted to go. Since you’re going there on business, we can’t waste the chance!"

Huo Junmo said, "Since you want to go, I’ll have Meng Bo arrange things at the company tomorrow. If nothing special comes up, once I’ve handled everything at work, we’ll head out in three days."

Ling Yueyue narrowed her eyes and flashed him a hand sign. "OK! Deal!"

Seeing the two of them decide on the trip in a heartbeat, Huo Jiantian pouted in dissatisfaction. "What about me?"

Ling Yueyue said smugly, "You? You have school, so of course you can’t go! Just wait—next time, when there’s another chance, we’ll take you with us."

Hearing that, Huo Jiantian snorted angrily. "Hmph! You said the same thing to brush me off last time when you two went on your honeymoon. And what happened? Winter vacation came and went and I still didn’t see you take me anywhere. Now you’re using the same excuse on me again? I’m not falling for it!"

Ling Yueyue explained, "That time was different. I was pregnant and couldn’t be running around; I had to stay home and protect the baby! This time, once your summer vacation starts, we’ll definitely take you out. I mean it, I never go back on my word!"
