Dao Companion Crippled, Coveters Move

Chapter 506 473: Who Impersonated Me and Deceived Nangong Jin

  • Next Chapter

'Liyuan… intercepted all of Junior Sister Nangong's letters to me?'

Pei Yuhang and Lu Ruoxi froze at the same time.

"No, that can't be right. Junior Sister Nangong, you must have misunderstood. Liyuan would never do something like that."

Pei Yuhang subconsciously sided with his Dao Companion.

Nangong Jin quietly watched Pei Yuhang. The voice that came from her thin lips held no blame, no anger. Her tone was clear and pleasant, yet it had a mechanical quality.

"Then why haven't you received the letters I've sent you all these years, Brother Pei?"

"Maybe… there was some kind of accident."

Pei Yuhang pressed his lips together. He frowned in thought, momentarily avoiding Nangong Jin's placid gaze.

Lu Ruoxi's eyes flickered as she keenly sensed the stagnant atmosphere between her junior brother and sister.

The corners of her lips curved into a smile as warm as a spring breeze, her eyes crinkling into gentle crescents. She took the initiative to hold Nangong Jin's cold hand.

"Let me take you to rest, Junior Sister Nangong. You must be exhausted from your long journey, especially after bringing such an important treasure back to the Sect."

Nangong Jin nodded slightly, her long lashes casting a shadow beneath her eyes.

Her expression was wooden. She allowed Lu Ruoxi to lead her forward, her steps so light she seemed weightless, like an exquisite marionette.

But just as she was passing by Pei Yuhang's side, she suddenly stopped.

Lu Ruoxi gently tugged her hand, only to find that Nangong Jin didn't budge. Her slender fingers were as stiff as iron.

Nangong Jin slowly raised her eyes to look at Pei Yuhang. A strange light flashed in the depths of her dark pupils.

She took out three yellowed envelopes from her Jiezhi Storage Ring, her fingertips gently caressing the paper.

"Ever since I realized Ye Liyuan was intercepting the letters I sent you, Brother Pei, I stopped mailing them to the Dao Sect."

She held the envelopes out to Pei Yuhang. Her wrist hung in mid-air, the sleeve sliding down to reveal a section of her arm so pale it was almost transparent.

"These last few letters, I planned to give them to you in person, Brother Pei."

Hearing this, Lu Ruoxi, who was standing to the side, was a little confused. 'Nangong Jin is already face-to-face with Pei Yuhang. Why hand him letters instead of just saying what she wants to say?'

She looked at the exquisite, puppet-like Junior Sister Nangong beside her, and an inexplicable sense of distant unfamiliarity arose in her heart.

'It feels like she's changed completely.'

'It's as if she still has Nangong Jin's face, but she's an empty shell, her soul stolen away...'

Lu Ruoxi instinctively hugged the cold-bodied Nangong Jin a little tighter.

After the two of them left, Pei Yuhang let out a deep sigh.

'Liyuan… how could she do something so awful?'

Pei Yuhang's gaze flickered. He was still unwilling to believe Nangong Jin's words. After all, in his mind, his Dao Companion had always been the most perfect woman—charming and cute, simple and kind-hearted, yet also intelligent and resilient.

Pei Yuhang shook his head, a bitter smile twisting his lips.

He thought of Shang Miaoyan—that incredibly controlling woman. She had done similar things in the past, interfering with his friendships and even secretly destroying the letters Qianqian sent him.

'But Liyuan… she's different.'

"Even if she dislikes Junior Sister Nangong, she would at least respect me enough to give me the letters first..." Pei Yuhang murmured in a low voice, as if saying it aloud could dispel the doubt in his heart.

In the end, he shook his head and decided not to dwell on it. He would read the letters Nangong Jin had given him first.

His fingertips gently pried open an envelope. The yellowed paper showed the traces of time. He lowered his gaze, and the very first line made his pupils shrink—

[Twenty years after leaving the Dao Sect, I still haven't been able to forget you, Brother Pei.]

Pei Yuhang's breath hitched. His knuckles tightened unconsciously, slightly wrinkling the paper in his hand.

'Is this… a love letter?'

His Adam's apple bobbed. His heart inexplicably began to race.

'What does Nangong Jin mean by showing me this? Could it be that she…'

If that was the case, then Pei Yuhang could understand why Ye Liyuan would hide these letters from him and destroy them.

But even so, Pei Yuhang decided to calm himself and continue reading.

The rest of the letter described Nangong Jin's experiences and trivial thoughts from that year. It was all very mundane.

Nevertheless, Pei Yuhang read it very carefully. His heavy gaze was fixed on the letter, as if trying to see through the words to divine Nangong Jin's true intentions.

When he reached the last sentence of the letter, he froze.

[Brother Pei, this is the twentieth letter I've written. I've written one every year since leaving the Dao Sect, but I never had the courage to send them to you…

However, you should be receiving my letters very soon.

The me of today is too embarrassed to send this, but the me of two years from now will send it to you… This is… my farewell to you, Brother Pei, and my final thoughts of you.]

'What does that mean?'

Pei Yuhang didn't understand what "my farewell and my final thoughts of you" was supposed to mean.

'Junior Sister Nangong is standing right here in front of me, perfectly fine. What is she saying farewell to?'

Puzzled, Pei Yuhang opened the second letter.

[Twenty-one years after leaving the Dao Sect. Brother Pei, this year, I've finally realized that I'm starting to forget you.

Not forgetting the memories of you, but forgetting the tremor in my heart and soul that they cause.]

[I think… I'm finally about to reach it. The final step of the Seven Extremes Forgetfulness Sword Dao you told me about, Brother Pei—to forget the one you love most.]

'Seven Extremes Forgetfulness Sword Dao… When did I ever teach Junior Sister Nangong something like that?'

Pei Yuhang's brow furrowed.

'I don't even know the Forgetfulness Sword Dao myself, so how could I have taught it to Junior Sister Nangong?'

'When Yueqiu wanted to walk the path of the Forgetfulness Sword Dao, I had to ask Liyuan to teach her on my behalf.'

'Unfortunately, Yueqiu's emotions were too passionate. Even though Liyuan was diligent and earnest, to the point of being strict, Yueqiu still couldn't peacefully enter the Dao…'
