Dao Companion Crippled, Coveters Move
Chapter 600 518: The Terror of "Endless Energy" Pei Yuhang! (Part 2)
Six great Demon Fiends formed an array in unison. Amidst the surging black mist, a blood-red, pyramid-shaped Barrier suddenly rose!
BOOM—!!!
The Sword Qi collided with the Barrier, unleashing a world-shaking roar.
Nangong Jin gripped her sword with both hands, pressing down inch by inch. The Barrier finally couldn't withstand the pressure and began to crack, layer by layer.
The Golden Sword Qi was unstoppable. The moment it broke through the Barrier, it instantly pierced the Banshee who had dared to insult Pei Yuhang!
"You dare insult my Senior Brother? I told you I would kill you!"
"AHHH—!!!"
Amidst the bloodcurdling scream, the Banshee's body disintegrated inch by inch, turning to ash!
"Nangong Jin, I'll fight you to the death!!"
The Crocodile Ghost roared in fury. He swung his two giant, scarlet axes, his bat-like wings trembling violently as he appeared before Nangong Jin.
In a single clash, the scarlet axes were sent flying by the Sword Qi of the Celestial Extinction Sword. Having lost his weapons, the Crocodile Ghost's rage subsided, and his composure returned.
He tried to retreat, but how could Nangong Jin possibly let him escape?
"Sever!"
Three sword strikes fell.
PSHHHH—!
Fresh blood sprayed as the Crocodile Ghost's body was completely torn apart by the Sword Qi. However, his final, desperate counterattack bought time for the remaining four Demon Fiends!
The ritual... was complete!
Although Nangong Jin's interference meant the sacrifice was short the flesh and blood of two Void Refining Powerhouses, making the ritual imperfect, the Demon Venerable's avatar... had descended after all!
"Junior Sister Nangong, fall back!!"
Pei Yuhang sensed an ominous aura erupting upward from the earth's veins. His pupils shrank as he shouted the warning!
In the next instant—
RUMBLE—!!!
The earth cracked open, and a shadowy figure as massive as a mountain burst forth!
A jet-black ox head roared at the sky. Its four giant arms were like pillars holding up the heavens, while its lower body consisted of eight writhing octopus tentacles, each covered in suckers and barbs that tore up the forest.
The Ox Demon Venerable!
Pei Yuhang had seen records of him in ancient texts from a thousand years ago.
According to the texts, this monster, known as the Ox Demon, would follow the overflowing rivers that flooded towns during great deluges, traveling inland to devour people.
Later, three Immortals, unable to bear seeing the world's people become food for this beast, sacrificed their lives to slay the Demon Fiend.
The Immortals then transformed their bodies into swords and severed the Ox Demon's head.
Pei Yuhang had thought this monster, an incarnation of flood and disaster, had long since fallen. He never expected... he would actually encounter him today!
"To think that nine Void Refining experts couldn't even take you down."
The Ox Demon spoke slowly, his muffled voice like rolling thunder across the sky, causing the air to tremble. His scarlet, beast-like eyes narrowed, revealing a bone-chilling killing intent.
"Nangong Jin, as a disciple of the Dao Sect, you first took my race's Holy Key, then stole our Holy Grail. What kind of explanation does the Dao Sect intend to give my people?"
Nangong Jin's expression remained unchanged, her gaze as frigid as a Cold Pool.
Even facing the avatar of this ancient, Mahayana Stage Demon Venerable, her back remained perfectly straight. Her robes fluttered in the wind, making her seem like a drawn sword, her sharp edge fully revealed.
"Your Demon Race has colluded with the Chosen Organization, who betrayed every living being in the Cultivation Realm. You have become the enemy of all life in the Cultivation Realm. I took them, so what? What can you do about it?"
"Such audacity! Hahaha—"
The Ox Demon laughed in fury, his laughter causing the clouds to churn and his demonic might to surge. "A mere Human Race Cultivator dares to talk back to this Venerable One?!"
He abruptly raised his eight tentacles. The tip of each one suddenly split open like a grotesque demonic flower, and black ink condensed under high pressure, about to transform into countless razor-sharp Water Swords.
"This Venerable One has yet to taste such an arrogant Human Fairy—" The vicious light in the Ox Demon's beastly eyes flared. "Today, I shall savor you thoroughly!"
SWOOSH—!
In the next instant, a sky full of inky Water Swords tore through the air with a piercing shriek, hurtling straight for Nangong Jin!
Pei Yuhang watched Nangong Jin as she clashed with the Ox Demon in the sky.
Her Golden Sword Qi was still as dazzling as ever, but against this ancient Demon Venerable, she wasn't having as easy a time as when she had crushed those Void Refining Demon Fiends.
He turned to look at Qing Yueqiu. The silver-haired girl was currently treating Bei Lingyin, who was so gravely injured she was barely conscious.
There were several gruesome, bloody wounds on Bei Lingyin's waist, around which black Demonic Qi clung like maggots to bone.
The Human Race's primary strategy against the disgusting Demon Race was expulsion, not extermination, for one simple reason: the Demonic Qi they wielded was far too difficult to handle.
Anyone injured by a member of the Demon Race would be tainted by Demonic Qi, polluting their Dao body. In mild cases, it would take several years of recuperation to slowly expel the Demonic Qi. In severe cases, the victim would die or even be corrupted by the Demonic Qi into a new demon.
Furthermore, when a member of the Demon Race died, the Demonic Qi in their body would disperse into the environment, polluting the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.
These bugs, covered in poisonous barbs that stank and polluted the environment even after being killed, had always been a massive headache for the Human Race.
Fortunately, Qing Yueqiu's Moonlight-attribute Spiritual Qi contained the power to purify corruption. It was able to halt the erosion of the Demonic Qi, and in the process of slowly cleansing it, she saved Bei Lingyin's life.
"Yueqiu, take Bei Lingyin and leave this place. Find somewhere safer to treat her, and ask the Human Race powerhouses in Lan City to come for a rescue."
Qing Yueqiu's long eyelashes trembled. She bit her lip, and after a moment of silence, she finally nodded slowly.
'I know that with my strength, having just entered the Void Refining stage, staying here would only make me a burden to Master and Junior Martial Uncle Nangong.'
Although a trace of unwillingness flashed in the girl's crimson eyes, it was quickly replaced by determination.
"Master, you have to get out of here with Junior Martial Uncle Nangong."
She raised her watery eyes, her voice trembling slightly. "Yueqiu will be waiting for you outside."
Pei Yuhang's stern expression softened. He reached out and gently stroked the top of her head. "Don't worry. I went through so much to be reunited with you. I won't be separated from you again."
His thumb gently wiped away the unshed tear at the corner of her eye, his own eyes filled with tenderness.
Qing Yueqiu took a deep breath and gave her Master one last, profound look. Then, she picked up the unconscious Bei Lingyin, clutched the Blood Skull Chalice tightly to her chest, and transformed into a streak of light, fleeing into the distance.
"Trying to leave in front of this Venerable One? You're courting death!"
The Ox Demon Venerable's savage face twisted abruptly, and a terrifying, vicious light shot from his blood-red, bell-like eyes.
His enormous hand tore through the air, bringing with it a foul wind as it clawed straight for the two of them.
CLANG—!
A brilliant golden sword light, like the rising sun, instantly severed the demonic hand.
Nangong Jin stood with her sword in hand, her black hair flying. A fearsome fighting spirit appeared on her ice-cold face.
"Your opponent is me!"
Flesh and blood writhed at the Ox Demon Venerable's severed wrist, and a new hand, wreathed in billowing white steam, was born.
He narrowed his scarlet eyes, staring intently at the white-robed woman before him, the corners of his fanged mouth twitching.
"Good, very good! This Venerable One will tear you to shreds first, then go flatten the cities of the Human Race and take back the Holy Grail!"
The Ox Demon Venerable's voice shook the heavens. A terrifying Suppression, like a passing typhoon, rolled across all of Ghost-Back Mountain, destroying countless tracts of forest.
Nangong Jin and Pei Yuhang exchanged a look, then joined hands, preparing to buy time for Yueqiu.
...
...
Carrying Bei Lingyin, Qing Yueqiu flew out of Ghost-Back Mountain, which was situated on the border between the territories of the Human Race and the Demon Race.
The signal for her Transmission Token, which had been blocked, was finally restored.
She immediately used her Transmission Token to contact Lan City, stating her identity as a Dao Sect disciple and reporting the news of the Ox Demon Venerable's arrival.
When the Human Race garrison in Lan City heard that a Demon Venerable had descended and that disciples of the Dao Sect had been attacked, they didn't dare to delay and swiftly dispatched reinforcements.
However, Lan City was still some distance from Ghost-Back Mountain.
Furthermore, the deployment of the Human Race garrison had to be carefully coordinated to avoid falling into an enemy encirclement or leaving Lan City vulnerable to attack while the troops were away.
As a result, it wasn't until the sun had set and the lonely moon hung high in the sky at midnight that Qing Yueqiu finally saw the hastily arriving Human Race garrison.
"Greetings, you must be Fairy Qing. We have already communicated with the Dao Sect..."
"Never mind about me! My Master and Junior Martial Uncle are still on Ghost-Back Mountain! You have to go support them now!"
Qing Yueqiu's emotions were spiraling out of control. Several hours had passed, and she still hadn't seen any sign of her Master, allowing panic to fester and spread in her heart.
「An hour later.」
Qing Yueqiu finally received a report brought back by a Scout.
"Fairy Qing, the avatar of the Ox Demon Venerable has been killed on Ghost-Back Mountain... but we haven't found any sign of your Master or Junior Martial Uncle."
