Chapter 100: Chapter 69: Slaying 100,000 Layers of Clouds

In a lightning-fast exchange, Zhong Shenxiu and Wei Lingyun clashed. With Sun Suzhen and Yu Jing providing support from the side, they managed to sever one of the arms of Wei Lingyun’s demon.

Sun Suzhen flicked his wrist, sending out a shimmering wave of light. It enveloped the demon’s bronze bell Magical Artifact, instantly swallowing it. Immediately, the watery light began to surge and churn violently.

Sun Suzhen was already injured. As the Magical Artifact struggled within his spell, his face paled, and he staggered back two steps with a THUD THUD. Fortunately, a hand suddenly reached out from behind him, gently pressing against his back to steady him. Only then did Sun Suzhen regain his footing.

Sun Suzhen knew without looking that it was Xuzhuang who had come to protect him. He let out a soft sigh of relief. He focused all his Magical Power on suppressing Wei Lingyun’s Magical Artifact, preventing its owner from recalling it. This also meant he couldn’t cast any other spells himself, but he still managed a relaxed smile. "Junior Brother Xu, aren’t you going to make a move?"

Xuzhuang replied with an air of complete composure, "Senior Brother, don’t be hasty. This demon is incredibly powerful. I need to find the perfect opportunity. When the time comes, you’ll see what I can do." After speaking, his gaze shifted slightly, sweeping over an empty patch of air as a mysterious smile touched his lips.

This early victory greatly lifted the spirits of everyone from the orthodox sects. In contrast, Tantai Jing, Si Xuan, and their companion looked toward Wei Lingyun, only to find his face grim. His eyes moved, casting a sidelong glare in their direction.

A chill ran down their spines. They knew Wei Lingyun’s cruelty all too well and dared not delay any longer. Tantai Jing immediately crossed the sword mark on the ground, intending to fly toward the sacrificial altar. But unexpectedly, a bright light flashed from within the mark, and a burst of Sword Qi shot out!

Tantai Jing’s heart leaped. With a flicker of his body, a clone emerged from his back. He didn’t even have time to form a hand seal for a spell; he just hastily threw the clone in the way. The Sword Qi flashed past like lightning, instantly cutting the clone in two at the waist. It tumbled to the ground, transforming into a skeleton severed at the torso. Its lower half was still struggling to crawl toward its upper half before finally going still a moment later.

The Sword Qi continued toward Tantai Jing. Fortunately, the White Bone Dharma Body had blocked it for an instant, giving him just enough time to retaliate. He summoned his White Bone Sword and slashed at the incoming attack. The Sword Qi, its momentum spent, was finally blocked by Tantai Jing.

"I did advise you, Fellow Daoist, not to cross this line." Zhong Shenxiu’s voice drifted lightly through the ghostly mist.

If Tantai Jing hadn’t sacrificed a White Bone Dharma Body to block the blow, he would have been decapitated. Yet he didn’t dare show any anger—not out of fear of Zhong Shenxiu’s power, but because he knew Wei Lingyun’s patience had reached its limit. He hurriedly sped toward the sacrificial altar.

Seeing Tantai Jing act sensibly, Wei Lingyun was slightly satisfied. But before he could even retract his gaze, he heard a loud shout, "Where do you think you’re going!"

A flash of flame and a white rainbow shot out from the ghostly mist, one after the other. It was Tan Chong and Zhe Junyang, who had drawn near to intercept Tantai Jing.

Wei Lingyun’s expression darkened. With a flick of his finger, he sent a streak of black light flying out, about to deliver a fatal blow. But a cluster of clear light shot out from the side, intercepting his Taoist Skill.

This clear light was, of course, from Zhong Shenxiu. Tan Chong and his companion had dared to cross the battlefield before the hall only because Zhong Shenxiu had instructed them to do so.

"Another Sixth Rank Taoist Skill..." Wei Lingyun looked back to see Zhong Shenxiu forming a Spell with his hands and giving him a slight smile.

Meanwhile, after losing an arm, his demon had been thoroughly outmatched by Zhong Shenxiu over the next dozen exchanges. Flashing Sword Qi left it covered in wounds.

’It seems I’ll have to get rid of this man first.’

A cold glint flashed in Wei Lingyun’s eyes. He pointed one hand at the smoky clouds overhead and the other at the Four-armed Demon. His Purple Mansion Infant channeled a vast amount of Magical Power as he said grimly, "Ignorant brat, daring to plunge into fire and water! You’re courting your own destruction!"

The next instant, the Four-armed Demon let out a hoarse, furious roar. Black mist roiled around it as the wounds all over its body healed in a flash. The stump of its shoulder squirmed, and a new arm burst forth from the flesh!

The demon’s four arms were restored. Only the bronze bell was missing from its grasp. It used its knife and fork to protect its body while its two empty hands shot up in unison, grabbing the Chaos Hand that was still pressing down on it. Then, with a savage PULL—

The Mixed Element Qi Refining Great Capture instantly disintegrated, collapsing into a ball of chaos. The demon’s baleful aura surged as it grabbed the mass of Chaos Primordial Qi and began to refine it into Yin Thunder.

Just as Zhong Shenxiu was about to cast a spell to counter, a sudden sense of danger put him on high alert. He looked up and saw the Youyun clouds above Wei Lingyun swirling and churning as a sinister wind howled. The clouds then parted, horrifyingly revealing a giant, bloodshot eye. Within its sclera, three terrifying pupils rotated before fixing their gaze on Zhong Shenxiu in unison.

Zhong Shenxiu’s eyes narrowed. He raised his hands into a Spell, instantly unleashing a Taoist Skill. An invisible thunderbolt flashed through the void, meeting the gaze of the three-pupiled demon eye. They clashed on an esoteric plane. The demon eye, as if stabbed by a needle, slammed shut and retreated back into the Youyun clouds.

Zhong Shenxiu’s body also shuddered slightly, and a wave of discomfort washed through his mind. ’Impressive. With my current spiritual sense, I really can’t overpower a Nascent Soul Cultivator.’

In the split second of that spiritual clash, the Four-armed Demon had already finished refining an endless amount of lightning. CRACKLES of thunder boomed as an aura of destruction filled the air.

At that very moment, Xuzhuang, who had been observing carefully from the side, narrowed his eyes. ’Just as I thought!’ he said to himself.

Wei Lingyun’s methods were indeed tyrannical. As Xuzhuang had expected, someone like Zhong Shenxiu probably wouldn’t even be at a disadvantage against an ordinary Nascent Soul Cultivator. Yet against this man, he was not only unable to gain the upper hand but was actually being pushed back.

But Xuzhuang had also noticed something. Although the man’s demonic aura was overwhelming, he hadn’t been in the Nascent Soul realm for long. His truly powerful techniques were few, which meant he wasn’t as difficult to deal with as he seemed.

In fact, Wei Lingyun’s current situation was quite similar to his own when he had first formed his Golden Core. His foundation was undoubtedly extraordinary; he must have been a top-tier cultivator among those with Top-grade Golden Cores to be this powerful right after reaching the Nascent Soul realm. However, his limited number of techniques meant that when faced with multiple, genuine threats, he would find himself overstretched.
