Death Leveling

Chapter 68 Magician’s Move

  • Next Chapter

The perspective of Fisk:

So, he went and did that... balls of iron you got there, don’t you?

An excited yet mildly troubled smile embraced my face—a droplet of sweat weeping, not ruining the clown makeup I was wearing.

"I guess we’ll be working overtime..." sarcastically said Angelo; he wasn’t exactly wrong here, I’ll be working way overtime this time around.

"Well, your shift is over—why don’t you let me handle this?" I stated.

He glanced at me. "It sure is—take care y’all then."

Angelo then walked out—leaving just me and a couple other nightshift workers in the headquarters.

I need to find his real name as fast as possible.

You complicated this so much, System Killer...

Why did you even do that?—you didn’t heed my warning?—or did you understand the consequences yet chose to ignore the risk anyway?

I closed my eyes; and abruptly opened a single one.

Then suddenly, I was elsewhere.

On top of a building, I unlocked a one-sided door—it could only be locked from the inside.

I was in a different body—an irregular, or a technician I suppose, that I’d frequent almost every single day; it was one of my mains.

This’ll drain my MANA... I need to be quick.

"Now, you jester—let’s see what kind of clownery you came up with," I voiced into the void—a line that echoed in the darkness.

The entire time, I had one eye closed—on both of my bodies, a different one for each.

I began scavenging for another one—it had to be a specific one, all because of the trouble the System Killer had created for me.

All while simultaneously checking records for recent missions—I had something to work with because of his words earlier, but it was a tedious task you couldn’t call anything but a chore.

Hence, I didn’t do it right away after my encounter with him.

"This one is no good..."

"And this one is too strong..."

"Oh—this’ll work perfectly!"

As I said that atop a building, I began stalking him for a good while—following him around carefully, observing every move he was making.

Then finally... as he stopped by a weed vending machine.

The sound of strings vibrated across the area—there were people, but that was irrelevant here.

Suddenly, he was pulled upwards—with his body being appropriately restricted.

He glared at me—eyes in frantic apprehension.

"Don’t worry, little one—I don’t favorite pain myself, so I have a distaste for giving it to others as well."

My palm was covering my face as my words left my mouth—even if this wasn’t my main, unlike the System Killer, I’m rather vigilant and meticulous with everything I do.

"Uhh... am I dead?" he let out—sweat dripping down his face, overt with the circumstances and the position he was in.

"I wasn’t going to entertain you further... but..."

Yes—I wasn’t—I was going to simply go inside him, but I do favorite his attitude here so I shall go off path—this once.

"No—you will be okay, boy, this won’t be much worse than greening out and remembering little about the last day," I spoke in his native tongue—will he understand that?—mmh.

"Then— AAAHHHH!!"

As those words left him, immediately the entirety of my body went into him—a quick burst of discomfort for him—and me—so it was a mutual trade of misery.

Silence.

And then just... quiet.

I started skimming over this body—his muscles were quite something, oh mmhh.

A perverted, fiendish smile surfaced; I proceeded to run my hands over this body, gently scouring through all the muscles and enjoying myself.

"Mmmmh... yes... you’re quite something, aren’t you, boy?"

Took out a piece of paper from the old body and then had it marionetted back to where it came from—firmly locking after himself.

Using magic, I wrote something on it—a certain something, yes.

I walked up to the edge of the building and had my eye digest the height...

Then...

Jumped down face first with a glorious grin and the wind piercing across the entirety of this body—this never gets old, does it now?

Mixed in with the crowd, I stepped towards a peculiar and nauseating location—a location with a nauseating amount of security cameras, that is.

Reached it and...

"Association Hotel."

Rather than going in, I simply closed both of my eyes on this body—promptly, both of my eyes opened on my main one.

Began focusing—deeply.

Until finally... bingo!

"Dante W. Reaper."

So, you’re the System Killer?—what a fitting name!—existence has some things in store for you, doesn’t it now?

This sure would’ve been much easier if I could just use Systems, wouldn’t it?—sigh.

Don’t want those disgusting tracking devices on me, though—a sacrifice for just a drop of inconvenience is but a worthless mention.

Both of my eyes tenderly regained their sight on the new body—eyes wide open.

Afterwards, I walked in...

This place is truly beyond gross; I thought with a subtly uncomfortable smile.

Took the elevator up—some random Player was also here.

I reached the right floor and then walked up to the door I was looking for...

Quietly, I sat down and slid in the piece of paper beneath the door.

And as if nothing had happened, I left the Association Hotel...

For a quick while, I proceeded to simply... walk around... randomly without a particular destination.

Until abruptly, a blast of acute pain went through the body! A miraculous burst of pain that lasted for less than a blink!

I was back on top of a building—regranting consciousness to the technician I had borrowed for this little endeavour.

"Now... surely, you will uphold the instructions I left you, won’t you, System Killer?"

"Surely..." this time in a whisper of skepticism.

Interpreting your actions, Dante, you sure are complicating things—what was even your goal?—or did you think you could genuinely get away being a serial killer in a city like this?

I can’t protect you if you keep murdering Players, dear Dante, you need to understand that, even if they call me the magician—even a magician has his limits, you know?

"Now, quickly eliminate Bonnie while you can—it’s the prize of your farces, a prize that is limited for tonight alone."

Whispers into the empty night sky.
