Death Leveling
Chapter 76 Brilliance’s Bill
The perspective of Fisk continues:
"Another request for assistance," said a colleague as he lifted one side of his headphones off his ear.
"That makes it how many just this night?"
"Six."
"No, isn’t it seven?"
Then the colleague smiled and said, "yeah, six seven," as he repeatedly nodded.
"Will you be clocking out, Fisk?"
On a typical day, this wouldn’t be a question—the increase in assistance requests was causing an influx of employees even in the Information Center so a multitude of colleagues were here working overtime.
Assistance requests were unusual—the Association carefully assigns missions to avoid unnecessary workload, and the vampires were meddling with that protocol and prudence.
It was particularly abnormal to have them at night—during daytime it was somewhat normal, but this was unprecedented.
"You guys can handle this without me—Angelo and Scar carry the team anyway, I’m not needed once they get here."
"Roger."
Oh, also unlucky for you, Dante—you got some news, but unlucky for me, Angelo will have to deliver it rather than me.
Finally, they came and I left.
Gradually I walked across the street and then I felt it—the exhausting human limitation that claws you no matter what schemes you pull.
"Mm..." I skimmed over myself, holding my hands out and carefully eyeing them.
"This body is getting sleepy again," I whispered to myself.
Swapped bodies and had this one rest—unfortunate.
This body in particular I’ve favorited for a long time—a remarkable technician I’ve adopted close to a decade ago now.
Built quite the career for it as well—he should be thankful for me for taking such excellent care of it.
"Heh."
A significant amount of hours passed...
"Huh?" I let out as my expression abruptly changed.
I proceeded to put my palm over my eye—and listened in.
"We need you to issue her a System Notification as quickly as you can—with a warning as well for potential disobedience."
"Can she really draw a sketch of him?"
"Yes."
"Is the name not enough?" said Angelo; I watched it fuzzily in a dreamlike state, only the words they spoke registered at full vividness.
"We ran the name ’Sung Oh’ through the database and there’s no such name—it was an alias, expectedly."
I see why my little slave worker began signaling—a disgusting turn of events no less.
Could feel my blood pressure rise hearing that name—sweat dribbled down my face, yet regardless I began grinning maniacally.
"Alright, give us a—" I cut contact—immediately turned around and began going the other way.
Luckily, it’s next to me—it’ll be close.
I see what’s your game, System Killer.
A battle of wits is what you’re trying to do here?—forcing me to clean up after you because you think I value you?!
For the first time since meeting him, a droplet of discomfort rose up in my stomach—gradually moving its way to my head.
Then upon reaching its destination, it translated to a teeth clench that nonetheless didn’t kill my mischievous smile.
And so I stood in front of it—a massive building that would’ve amiably blocked the sunlight, with its only misfortune being the fact that it was already the evening.
I walked up to a yellow crystal and put my hand on it...
Immediately...
"Fucking Kross is there?!"
"Tsk!!"
Then...
Noticed a person walking in.
"Hey, are you with the bureau?"
Shit, I sounded a little frantic with that.
"Yes—is there something I can help you with?"
Think—deeply.
"I think I saw a wanted person around the corner—I took a picture of him as well, do you think you could verify for me?"
"Which one?" he replied instantly.
Think, think, think.
"Murfo— Murfo the Rat, he deserted a few years ago—you know him?"
"Ah... that sounds like an old case," he let out as he glanced at the pits of the sky. "I only joined the bureau recently so I’m not really familiar with them."
Tsk...
Then he added, "you want to come in and talk with someone more experienced?—they could definitely help you."
Think... THINK, THINK HARD.
I got it.
"Oh, sure—I can just come in?"
"Of course," he smiled as he answered.
We walked a couple of steps—I stopped and began tapping on my clothes.
"Is everything... okay?" he voiced with soft curiosity.
"I don’t think I have the pictures with me—think I could go fetch them real quick?"
He looked at me for a moment, still without any suspicion. "Sure thing—just come in once you’re ready then."
My eyes... slowly moved up.
"Umm... think you could just grab them from me and then show them to your boss or whatever?— it’s just by the corner anyway, and I somewhat need to rush somewhere so it would be more convenient that way, especially since I might just... have the wrong person altogether."
Another moment of silence—dread.
"Sure..."
Saved it—phew.
Afterwards, just as we got by the corner.
"Ah..."
"Hmm?" escaped his mouth.
Steadily, I turned around and... faced him.
And as my expression ominously transformed into a devious grin.
"UHGGGG...!! AAAHH...!!"
Then in a soft manner... tenderly... I opened my eyes.
Unfortunately, I was immediate with it:
"Ew... System users..."
My old body simply stood there—motionlessly.
I closed one eye and had it move elsewhere.
Got inside the building—not far in, just far enough to be ready.
A few people passed by.
I waited. And waited.
Until I saw her—a nasty woman going down the hallway.
I began walking.
Then I stopped.
I breathed in...
Would you hate me if I did this, Moon?
[SYSTEM ERROR — YOU DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO THIS ABILITY]
I won’t leave anything out of the System anyway, so I might as well.
[SYSTEM BYPASSED — ACCESS GRANTED]
[SHADOW COLLAPSE ACTIVATED]
Immediately, all the shadows in the hallway began twinkling like little stars in the night sky.
The facial expression of her escort died—his eyes widened in panic.
I pointed my palm towards her.
Her escort began materializing a blade—too slow, baby.
Her neck visibly cramped.
And then just mildly, her head collapsed into her neck—killing her.
The man attacked me—I grabbed his blade.
And sliced my throat in front of him using his very weapon.
I relinquished control.
"Oh, he’s coming down," I softly whispered.
I paused for a second—with strings attached!
Then I ran.
Sigh.
Dante, what did you make me do?—you little fiend, I’ll have you pay for this!!
That was undeniably a brilliant chess move, however—I compliment and praise you, dear.
A while more had passed...
I was waiting for someone.
Then...
"There you are, System Killer."
I went up to him—and allowed my face to change for him.
He did not wait... used his words for me so well... mmmmh...
"Did you do it?"
In such a satisfied voice as well...
