Death Notice
Book 10: Chapter 52: The World’s Law
Qin Lun and the others stood motionless in front of the Legacy Cube. Looking closely, their eyes lost focus, and their pupils flashed with scenes like lightning, mixed with strange, twisted symbols.
Although their bodies were frozen, their minds stayed clear. They had just been pulled into a special Law space. In this space, Qin Lun could no longer keep his human form. His Apostle Soul Mark—a multi-faceted crystal—was pulled right out of his body, floating naked in the air.
The real Cube outside became a mini cube here. It gave off a soft glow, and the power of the Law, along with a grand, hymn-like sound, washed over the Soul Mark crystal like waves.
Qin Lun was shocked to see that under this wave of Law power, the protective layer on his Apostle Soul Mark was fading fast.
He knew that the glow on the Apostle Soul Mark stood for the Law of the Shattered Starry Sky. It was both a limit and protection for Apostles. If this light went out, Qin Lun didn’t know if he would still exist, or if he could still connect with the Shattered Starry Sky.
But there was nothing he could do now. Before this, the Star Void had warned all Apostles coming into this world: because they came at this time, it could not tell if unknown things might happen.
Luckily, the Shattered Starry Sky’s protection for the Apostle Soul Mark seemed stronger than the Final Gospel’s level. The glow on the Soul Mark never fully faded—thin but unbreakable.
Still, as the glow weakened, Qin Lun started to understand a bit of the Final Gospel. He pieced together a rough idea from what he heard and guessed.
“So this is the truth of the Final Gospel!” Qin Lun’s Apostle Soul Mark shook slightly.
The so-called Final Gospel was really the World Law of the Gospel World. Long ago, the Angel Race stumbled upon the power of this world’s Law while turning their life forms into spirits.
Their path of life evolution wasn’t fully blocked. The experiments with the Insectoid and the Hismael were just two ways the Angel Race tried to bring their souls back into bodies. But there was another way for spiritual souls.
That was the path to godhood—merging the soul directly with the World Law, turning into a real god, and holding a godly role formed from the World Law.
Sadly, the Angel Race back then didn’t meet the conditions. First, though they had touched the Law’s power, their study in this area was just starting. The World Law they could grasp was incomplete and couldn’t form a solid godhood.
Second, after becoming gods, they would need a lot of faith power to keep existing. But after becoming spirits, the Angel Race had few people. Other life stars were still primitive and couldn’t give much faith power. This path ended before it even started.
So, the Angel Race pinned their hopes on the future. On one hand, they used all their spiritual power to seal Jannamer deep in the star system’s core. On the other hand, they left two legacy races—the Insectoid and the Hismael. At the same time, they spread sparks of hope on other life stars in the Gith Star System, including Gith Star. They hoped someone would come to Paranto to inherit the Final Gospel.
Actually, the Final Gospel wasn’t just this world’s Law. The Angel Race had mixed in a lot of their own plans. If natives of the Gospel World inherited the Final Gospel, they would not only get Law power but also have a kind of religious belief planted deep in their minds.
As they spread this faith in their own civilization, lots of faith power would finally form godhood. Then, Sanova and other Angels would come back to life, creating a godly realm in Paranto.
Sadly, the Angel Race’s plan was finally ruined by Qin Lun and other Apostles. Like a candy-coated bullet, the candy was eaten, but the bullet was blocked by the Shattered Starry Sky’s Law power.
“Warning: Apostle Soul Mark is washed by outside Law power. Moonlight Elf Bloodline is affected, unknown changes occur. Demon Bloodline is affected, unknown changes occur. Law Body stats improve…”
“Hint: Main Quest ‘Angel’s Legacy’ final completion rate is 65%. Base reward: 200,000 Shattered Crystal, 50 Contribution Points, 20 Soul Life Limit increase, one Advanced Class Certificate. Final Exploration Rate reward triples the base. Final quest rating increases by one level.”
“Hint: Shattered Starry Sky extracts World Law from Final Gospel. Patroller Team gains 0.25% World Exploration Degree. Apostle 70053 gains 0.2% World Exploration Degree.”
“Hint: All Angel legacy ruins are open. Competition main quest completion reaches 100%. Countdown to return begins for all Apostle teams…”
As messages kept coming, the Law space where the Apostle Soul Mark was slowly fell apart. As if knowing it was about to disappear, Sanova’s projection stopped singing the Gospel and looked at Qin Lun.
“Future inheritor, we give you power, hoping you will keep exploring the mystery of the universe’s birth, the meaning of life’s existence, and spread the Gospel to every corner of the universe…”
“Hint: Apostle 70053, you have received the underground network projection of the Gospel ruins and the map of the Paranto realm.”
As Sanova spoke, the light from the Cube grew dim. The light shield covering the Apostles shook and vanished after a few breaths. Clarity slowly returned to Qin Lun’s eyes.
“Hey, why do we look like this?”
“Look, we seem to have come out of the underground palace!” Bobby exclaimed in surprise. “Those people outside the pyramid…”
After regaining awareness, Qin Lun and the others noticed the changes in themselves. They also saw Alex and his team not far away, and the other two big teams outside the pyramid’s shield.
“Sir, you’re finally awake!” Alex and the others spoke with joy in Qin Lun’s ear.
“Alex? Your mecha…” Qin Lun raised an eyebrow at Alex’s team’s brand-new Bingren Mecha.
“Heh, we just heard part of the praise hymn. After waking up, we found our mecha seemed to have evolved and became easier to control,” Alex said excitedly. “Sir, was that sound the Angel Gospel?”
“You heard it too?” Qin Lun’s eyes gleamed. The Final Gospel not only had Law power but also carried the Angel Race’s faith. Alex and his team hearing part of it—he didn’t know if it was good or bad for the Gith.
Still, without the full Angel Gospel, their brainwashing probably wasn’t deep. Without enough faith power, the Angel Race might not be able to come back to life, form godhood, or build a godly realm.
Thinking of this, Qin Lun smiled and replied, “Yes, what you heard was the Angel Gospel. Now you Gith can proudly tell the Insectoid and the Hismael that you are the true heirs of the Angel civilization.”
“Too bad only seven of us were affected,” Alex said curiously. “Sir, did you find the Angel Race’s tech legacy inside?”
“No, only the Angel Gospel was inside!” Qin Lun shook his head with a bitter smile. “If you can leave the Paranto realm, you should work with the Hismael. The Angel Race’s tech legacy should be in their hands.”
“The Angel Gospel wasn’t recorded. Will the Hismael work with us?” Alex asked with some bitterness.
“They will, but let’s talk about that later. For now, let’s deal with them!” Qin Lun looked up at the two groups outside the pyramid shield, his eyes cold. “Robin, let’s begin.”
“Mhm!” Robin nodded and walked towards the Cube.
Now, the Cube’s glow was very dim. The huge face in the sky above the ruins was gone. The shield protecting the pyramid was shaky and wouldn’t last much longer.
“Qin Lun, up or down?” Robin stood in front of the Cube and looked back.
The Angel Race’s Sanova had just given Qin Lun and the others the ruins map projection and a way to leave Paranto. The maps to the tech legacy ruins no longer mattered to the Patroller Team. From the hints, it seemed other teams had already gotten the tech from those places.
Actually, the Shattered Starry Sky only cared about the World Law in the Final Gospel. The Angel Race’s tech legacy was only useful to the Gith. Apostles gaining tech legacy didn’t give much Exploration Rate.
“Up!” Qin Lun glanced at the countdown in his Soul Mark and curled his lip.
There were still six full hours left. These six hours were clearly not good news for them. It was probably the Star Void giving other teams a chance to balance things out.
Robin’s question—up or down—was about how to escape the other teams. Down meant using the stone platform at the pyramid’s top to go back into the ruins.
But the two teams outside were watching them. With six hours left, the ruins inside were big but closed in. If they got trapped, it would be hard to escape.
“Okay, good luck, everyone!” Robin smiled and pressed her hand on the Cube. “When the countdown ends, we each return. See you in the Star Void.”
“Mhm!” Qin Lun nodded, then turned and whispered something to Alex. “… Got it?”
“Understood!” Alex gave Qin Lun and the others a strange look. But after a moment’s hesitation, he finally nodded.
“Boom!” As Robin activated the Cube’s final safety measure, the whole Cube exploded. Qin Lun and the others were each wrapped in a bright light and shot into the sky, flying off to different corners of Paranto.
