Book 10: Chapter 70: Divine Artifact Fragment
After acquiring two bundles of Magic Scrolls, two consumable items—the Gargoyle Statue and the Construct Beetle, and the A- rank skill Nine Hells, Qin Lun spent a total of 2.1 million Shattered Crystals.
Even though he stopped competing for the other Magic Scrolls and consumables, he still had to continue bidding for the Illithid Brain and the High-Concentration Fire Elemental Core.
At this point, only a few people remained in the bidding for the Illithid Brain and the Fire Elemental Core. The prices had already reached 950,000 and 650,000 Shattered Crystals respectively, and it was obvious that the final transaction prices would still increase a bit.
In other words, Qin Lun only had 300,000 Shattered Crystals left as reserve funds. Once those two items were finalized, even after selling the Angel Bloodline Item, he could probably only buy one more bundle of Magic Scrolls.
“I didn’t even manage to get a single Legendary item!” Qin Lun gave a bitter smile. But he believed the items he had already bought would satisfy the other team members. After all, setting aside the consumables, the Illithid Brain, A-rank skill, and Faith Totem were not things that could be easily bought.
Because Hill and the others had already restocked their basic recovery items before this big shopping spree, and because Qin Lun’s previous Gospel World was special and didn’t consume any supplies, he didn’t need to keep the remaining Shattered Crystals. He could buy one more bundle of Magic Scrolls.
But Qin Lun wasn’t in a hurry to choose Magic Scrolls now. There was still over a day left before the auction ended. He wanted to wait and see if there were any “good and cheap items” at the end for a final purchase.
Even though he couldn’t afford those expensive Legendary Equipment, it didn’t stop him from feasting his eyes and broadening his knowledge. Most of these Legendary Equipment were closely related to otherworlds of at least mid-magic level or higher. The skills inherent in the equipment reflected certain World Laws. Broadening his horizons would be beneficial for future adventures.
“Huh, this thing… might be useful for Hansen!” Looking at the projection of a certain item in the equipment list, Qin Lun couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.
To be precise, this item wasn’t a complete piece of equipment, but rather a component or fragment of one.
“Yardorid” (Fragment): Batel Yardorid was the former God of War in the Naxinia World. He fell during the divine war of that world, and his Yardorid Spear broke into several pieces, with the fragments scattered across the world. This item was part of the spear’s guard.
The Yardorid Spear’s guard no longer possessed the special skills of the divine spear. But it was, after all, a fragment of a Divine Artifact, and it was the connecting part between the spearhead and the shaft. After being taken out of the Naxinia World, it formed a unique ability based on its inherent World Law.
This equipment’s inherent skill was called “Compatibility Fusion.” It could connect up to four completely different Apostle equipment into one piece, without damaging the inherent skills of these equipment.
In the eyes of most low and mid-rank Apostles, this equipment skill was basically useless. Every Apostle had their own Storage Space, and during combat, they only needed a very short gap to switch between different equipment. They didn’t need something like this.
However, in the eyes of High-Rank Apostles, its value was different. In otherworlds of medium or high level, where individual combat power far exceeded that of Low Magic Worlds, experts like Qin Lun had already experienced that there was simply no gap during combat that allowed for switching equipment from the Storage Space.
Because of this, Weapon Cases that could fuse various different equipment held great value. In fact, most High-Rank Apostles would prepare one or two things that served a similar purpose to a Weapon Case for themselves.
To compensate for his weakness in close combat, Qin Lun himself possessed two such items. One was the Glove of Sacrifice on his left hand, and the other was his previous Ayala Weapon Casket, now the Frostwind Chaser Weapon Casket.
The Compatibility Fusion of the Yardorid fragment effectively served the purpose of a Weapon Case, and it was even more powerful than Qin Lun’s Frostwind Chaser Weapon Casket.
The Frostwind Chaser Weapon Casket was a combined weapon, but the Yardorid fragment wasn’t limited to just combining weapons. It could fuse things without restriction—shields, armor, even aircraft. Most importantly, it could adjust the fused equipment at any time to adapt to different combat environments, whereas a Weapon Case could only switch between a few fixed pieces of equipment.
The Disciple Hansen’s initial class was a Viking Warrior. His current advanced class was called an Einherjar Warrior, which fell under the type known as Weapon Master.
Weapon Master was a powerful close-combat profession that could proficiently use various heavy and light melee weapons. Heavy weapons included poleaxes and halberds; light weapons included swords, daggers, and gauntlets. For mid to long range, they could use throwing axes and javelins, even some simple and brutal shotguns and grenade launchers.
Weapon Masters had slightly lower requirements for their main weapon compared to ordinary classes, but they had very high demands on technique. At the initial rank, they were required to master several weapon specialization techniques. By the middle rank, they needed to master one grandmaster-level weapon technique and more than three master-level weapon techniques.
Just consider that Qin Lun himself only had two master-level weapon techniques so far, which showed how high the technical demands were for Weapon Masters.
Weapon Masters’ adaptability to Quest Worlds was second only to Martial Artists. In close-quarters melee, they were the only combat profession that could be compared to Martial Artists. Although their burst capability was slightly lower than that of Swordsmen, Assassins, and Magicians, it was enough to contend with Knights and Brawlers who lacked top-tier mounts.
However, precisely because Weapon Masters spread their resource investment across various areas, their class development was very slow and difficult to mature. Many Weapon Masters gradually gave up during their development, becoming ordinary warriors or shield warriors who used a single main weapon.
The Disciple Hansen was now facing this same problem. But he had more perseverance than many low-rank Weapon Masters, and he had witnessed Qin Lun using a Weapon Casket early on, which strengthened his resolve to continue pursuing the path of a Weapon Master.
But Hansen had encountered many difficulties in his search for a good Weapon Casket. There were plenty of Weapon Caskets that could combine multiple melee weapons, but none of them met his requirements.
Either the types of weapon combinations were too monotonous, like all being light weapon combinations—sabers, swords, one-handed axes. Or the number of combinations was too few, like only having a sword and shield. He hadn’t found a single high-quality Weapon Casket that included various long and short melee weapons, even shields and thrown weapons.
Another important factor was that The Disciple himself was too picky. Actually, the “Grim Chain Gunblade” that Qin Lun previously wanted to sell him was quite good. It had a broad blade, an integrated air shotgun, and sharp hook-sickles. If he carried a shield as well, it would basically cover all aspects of offense and defense.
The deal ultimately didn’t happen because the quality of the “Grim Chain Gunblade” was too low. The main weapons of the other Serial Killers were all Sub-Legendary or above. The Disciple clearly didn’t want his main weapon to be only gleaming gold quality.
And now, the Yardorid fragment that Qin Lun saw, although not a combined weapon itself, satisfied Hansen’s needs better than any Weapon Casket. Moreover, the quality of this item was Divine Artifact fragment, and it could freely adjust the weapons fused within it. It seemed tailor-made for a Weapon Master.
As soon as Qin Lun saw this item, he knew he couldn’t miss it. Hansen was a part of the team; his combat power was the team’s combat power. As the melee fighter covering for the long-range classes, as long as the enemy couldn’t break through his defense, Qin Lun and Hill’s safety would be greatly guaranteed.
But this thing was expensive and popular. Even though it wasn’t any finished piece of equipment, the current bidding price had already reached 350,000 Shattered Crystals, and there were many competitors.
Qin Lun temporarily didn’t have the funds to bid on this item. He could only keep an eye on its auction while waiting for the finalization of his other two bid items. A few hours later, the High-Concentration Fire Elemental Core was finally successfully acquired.
The few High-Rank Apostles competing with him probably also knew that this Unknown Curio might have a special function. But the uses of Unknown Curios were limited. Sometimes it might only be useful for a specific special class. Once the price reached a certain point, it wasn’t worth continuing to fight for.
In the end, this Fire Elemental Core, which was most likely the Zoroastrian Faith Totem, was acquired by Qin Lun for 700,000 Shattered Crystals.
However, after acquiring this item, Qin Lun didn’t show any joy on his face, because the price of the other item, the Illithid Brain, had already risen to 1 million Shattered Crystals. In other words, he now only had 200,000 in liquid funds left.
Qin Lun looked at the auction list, his eyes flickering. Only two other Apostles remained in the competition for the Illithid Brain. 1 million Shattered Crystals was also almost the limit for this item. Bidding further would definitely be considered overpaying.
At this time, the other two High-Rank Apostles were bidding very slowly. Originally, they updated the bid price every few minutes, but now it took over ten minutes. They were clearly hesitating about whether to continue bidding.
“1.2 million!” Qin Lun gritted his teeth, skipped the 5,000 increment, and raised the bid for the Illithid Brain by 200,000 in one go, hoping to scare off the other two competitors. At this point, he had used up all his liquid funds.
This price indeed caused one of the bidder numbers to turn gray. But the other bidder fell silent, clearly still hesitating. Qin Lun stared tightly at the other person’s bid number, and his usually calm heartbeat sped up a little.
“Darn it!” Over ten minutes later, another price of 1.25 million reappeared on the auction panel, making Qin Lun curse silently.
“Such bad luck!” Qin Lun sighed. He operated the auction panel, and soon his account had an additional 500,000 Shattered Crystals. He then placed a new bid of 1.3 million.
This 500,000 Shattered Crystals was the income from selling the Angel Bloodline Item. Originally, he had included this Bloodline Item in the bid for the Illithid Brain, but the Apostle selling the Illithid Brain didn’t want it. Qin Lun had to auction it separately, precisely to prevent the awkward situation of having no liquid funds like now.
Both the Angel Bloodline and the Illithid Brain were high-rank bloodlines. But bloodlines that increased strength and Constitution weren’t rare on the market. Furthermore, the Angel Bloodline’s extra 3% chance for Divine Domain was much lower than the Illithid Brain’s 10% chance, which was why the price differed by more than half.
In fact, Qin Lun didn’t know yet that high-rank bloodlines like the Illithid Brain, costing over a million, were extremely rare. Generally, most high-rank bloodlines traded hands for between 500,000 and 600,000.
The other High-Rank Apostles competing with him weren’t solely betting on that 10% chance for Divine Domain. What they valued were the several innate abilities that the Illithid Brain itself possessed.
