Chapter 403 Kagehisa’s Last Effort! The Strength Of The Genius Shinobi

Kagehisa was prepared.

He summoned his spear, the Demon Cutter, once again and harnessed its innate Divine Power.

Back then, he’d used it to completely overwhelm Riven, even though he barely knew how it worked.

But now? He’d already mastered it during the short time he’d spent training!

He hadn’t forgotten how difficult it had been to control. During training, he’d kept adjusting his grip and trying again whenever the power slipped away from him. It had been frustrating, especially when he thought he finally understood it, only to fail on his next attempt. But those attempts hadn’t been wasted.

FLUOOOSH!

His spear turned deep red, gleaming with demonic power. The blood of the countless demons it had slain had accumulated within it, strengthening the weapon.

This time, the power answered him immediately. Kagehisa closed his hand around the shaft and aimed at the soldier bearing down on him. There wasn’t enough room for a full swing. There didn’t need to be. He braced himself against the floor, holding his spear steady while the tentacles pulled him closer.

"Onikiri: Shin-Geki. Demon Cutter: Divine Thrust."

A single, potent thrust.

RUMBLE!

BOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

"G-Gaaha...?!"

The soldier coughed up blood as the spear blasted through his right side, taking his arm and leg with it. Part of his face and chest was gone.

His body collapsed onto the floor, blood spilling around him.

For a moment, Kagehisa stayed where he was, still gripping the spear. The soldier’s weapon had fallen beside him. It had come close enough that Kagehisa could see exactly where it would have struck. He swallowed, then pulled his legs free as the tentacles loosened. He’d won, but his hands were still trembling.

"U-Unbelievable...!" the soldier muttered.

He tried to lift his remaining hand, but it dropped before he could reach for anything. His gaze moved from the fallen weapon to Kagehisa’s spear.

"Y-You... Uh... Ugh..."

He opened his mouth again, searching for words that wouldn’t come out.

Kagehisa got to his feet, keeping his distance. Even now, he wasn’t taking another chance. The spirit domain quickly faded as Kagehisa looked down at him.

"It’s over. You were a worthy opponent, and this fight has helped me confirm how much stronger I’ve become. But now, I’ll give you a quick death."

"Hahah... I... can’t die... motherfucker..."

Kagehisa kept his blade ready. The soldier could barely get the words out, but he was still trying to move. His fingers scraped against the ground, searching for something to grab. Even now, he refused to accept that the fight was finished.

Was he planning to attack again? With his body in that state?

"?!"

Kagehisa felt a strange, alien pressure coming from the soldier.

A second later, it sent him flying backward. As he struggled to regain his balance, he saw tentacles emerging from the soldier’s severed body.

He tried to bring his sword in front of him, but there was nothing he could cut. His arms had been thrown back, and he could barely draw a breath. All he could do was brace himself for the landing.

He landed badly, slid, and drove his blade into the dirt to stop himself. For a moment, he could only stare. He had been close enough to finish the soldier. If he had moved just a little faster...

No. Thinking about that wouldn’t help him now.

"YOUUUUUU...!"

The soldier slowly stood back up, roaring in anger.

One of the soldier’s new limbs buckled beneath him. He almost fell, caught himself, and forced it to support him. His eyes never left Kagehisa. There was anger in them, but also something Kagehisa hadn’t expected to see.

Fear. He was afraid of dying, no matter what he claimed.

And whatever was happening to his body seemed to be answering that fear.

"I AM NOT... GOING TO FUCKING DIE!!!"

The soldier roared, charging toward Kagehisa like a wild beast on all fours. Long tentacles fused into new limbs as the missing half of his body began to regenerate.

Kagehisa pulled his sword free and stepped aside as the soldier lunged. The attack missed him, but not by much. A hand struck the ground where his foot had been, sending dirt against his leg. The soldier turned immediately, dragging one unfinished limb behind him.

He didn’t even wait for his body to finish healing!

Kagehisa tried to put more distance between them. He needed room to see what was changing, but the soldier kept coming. Every failed attack became another attempt to grab him. There was no pause, no chance to prepare the finishing blow he had been so certain of.

And unlike every other version of Genesis Cells Kagehisa had seen before, this one seemed truly perfected! It obeyed the soldier and was already helping him recover more than half of his body!

That was the part Kagehisa couldn’t ignore. The regeneration wasn’t fighting against its host or leaving him unable to move. The soldier could still choose his target. He could still follow Kagehisa with his eyes and change direction when he dodged.

Genesis Cells were helping him fight. Not just keeping him alive.

It was insane. A truly immortal soldier!

And his power level? It kept increasing, his stats growing with every hard battle he survived.

These soldiers weren’t just incredibly strong. Thanks to the Genesis Super Adaptive Cells, they could keep growing stronger as long as they survived.

Then what had this battle given him? Kagehisa had pushed him to the edge of death, and the soldier had come back stronger. Would another wound do the same? He tightened his grip on the sword. He couldn’t afford to keep testing that possibility while the man was trying to tear him apart.

But it couldn’t be that perfect! There had to be a catch, right?

He watched the soldier’s movements, looking for a hesitation, a limb that failed to respond, anything he could use.

There had to be a limit to how much damage Genesis could repair. But finding that limit and surviving long enough to reach it were two different problems.

Or... no. It didn’t matter anyway.

A certain someone was already making his way here.

There was nothing he had to worry about anymore when he arrived.

A confident smile flashed in his handsome face, making the soldier even more furious.
