Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Take a Gamble

Ever since Zhu Xiu let her start fires, Bai Wanwan intentionally made one for every meal over the next two days, just so she could eat cooked food.

At first, Zhu Xiu would stare at her with great vigilance, but he had clearly relaxed since then.

Bai Wanwan also noticed that even though he was back in his beast form, he didn’t seem to hold any hostility toward her.

He had even protected her time and again.

"Zhu Xiu, I want to go outside and get some sun. Could you carry me out?"

She threw herself against his beastly body, speaking to him in a soft voice.

Zhu Xiu turned his head, his deep, dark eyes staring at her.

Every time he did this, Bai Wanwan was, in truth, still a little intimidated.

Before her was a ferocious beast that had lost its consciousness, one that could devour her at any moment.

But Bai Wanwan didn’t shrink back. Instead, she curled her lips into a smile at him.

She could feel that being close to Zhu Xiu made the dark aura around him grow fainter.

’Go on, go on...’

The massive head of the King Cobra turned away. Just as Bai Wanwan thought he was silently refusing her, his long tail swiftly coiled around her body.

After leaving the cave, the King Cobra’s enormous body weaved through the forest.

He moved so slowly that Bai Wanwan, lying on his back, felt no bumps at all. She even felt like taking a nap.

As her eyes fluttered between open and closed, something white seemed to flash past in the distance.

Her eyes shot wide open, and a familiar figure appeared in her line of sight.

It was Xin Feng!

’After being tormented by Zhu Xiu with wild boars and dead rats, seeing Xin Feng now filled her with a sense of warmth and excitement.’

She was just about to wave at Xin Feng, who was standing on a branch, when she saw him raise a finger to his lips.

She quickly looked away and glanced at Zhu Xiu. He didn’t seem to have noticed.

The King Cobra slid forward leisurely, soon arriving at the top of a waterfall.

Amidst the roar of the rushing water, Bai Wanwan saw a figure disappear into the river below.

She immediately patted Zhu Xiu’s body. "I want to go down for a dip."

Zhu Xiu seemed to understand. He coiled around her and leaped down the waterfall.

The flying spray drenched her, chilling her to the bone.

The thrilling weightlessness felt like a roller coaster ride, until Zhu Xiu brought her to a steady landing.

He extended his long tail and placed her directly into the pool.

Bai Wanwan waved at him. "You don’t have to stay with me. I’ll just swim on my own."

As she spoke, she swam a few laps in the water.

Seeing that Zhu Xiu truly had no intention of getting in, she finally dove headfirst into the water.

She had to dive deep before she spotted Xin Feng’s figure. Before she could swim to him, he was already coming toward her.

The distance between them closed in an instant. Xin Feng pulled her into a hug, their bodies pressing tightly together.

Unable to speak underwater, they could only keep their eyes wide open and gaze at each other.

Xin Feng gestured with his hands, but she couldn’t understand what he meant at all.

Just as she was about to shake her head, he reached out, cupped the back of her head, and brought his scorching lips down on hers.

Bai Wanwan had missed him dearly, and she wrapped her arms around his lean waist in return.

His kiss was fierce and hot, and Bai Wanwan tilted her head back to meet it.

Xin Feng’s arms tightened, as if pouring all his worry and longing for her into the embrace.

He kissed her until she was breathless. As she tilted her head back, she suddenly saw a massive shadow fall over the surface of the water.

She quickly pushed Xin Feng away and swam rapidly toward the surface.

The pool was a deep, turquoise green, making it hard to see what was below.

When Bai Wanwan broke the surface, she hid her guilt, waved, and smiled at Zhu Xiu. "Hey! I want to play a little longer."

Seeing that Bai Wanwan was alright, the King Cobra lay back down and closed his eyes.

Bai Wanwan slowed her breathing. After swimming three laps right under his nose, she was about to dive down again.

Suddenly, a hand reached out from her side and wrapped around her waist.

Startled, Bai Wanwan quickly pushed him toward the edge of the pool.

There was a rocky overhang there, perfectly situated to block the view from above.

Just as Bai Wanwan was about to speak, Xin Feng gently touched her lips.

Then he leaned in and whispered into her ear, "You don’t have Talent Power, so he’ll hear you if you speak. Just listen to me."

Bai Wanwan nodded in understanding.

Xin Feng held her, letting her rest effortlessly in his arms.

"The terrain here isn’t good. I can’t get you out today. I’ll come for you the next time he goes hunting."

Hearing she couldn’t leave with him, she was slightly disappointed, and the corners of her mouth turned down despite herself.

Xin Feng sighed softly. "He’s not in his right mind. If we were to fight, I’m afraid you’d get hurt."

’Of course, Bai Wanwan knew he was saying this for her own good, that he had considered all the angles.’

She raised her arms, wrapped them around his neck, and leaned in to kiss him.

’She hadn’t seen him in days. She really did miss him.’

With one arm around her waist and the other pressing the back of her neck, Xin Feng pulled her down into the water.

With nothing to brace against in the water, Bai Wanwan was held tightly in his embrace.

By the end, Bai Wanwan was left completely limp and pliant...

Xin Feng kept a close watch on the time. Despite his reluctance, he pushed her back toward the surface.

The two of them hid beneath the rocky overhang.

Xin Feng caressed her red, swollen lips with his finger, his phoenix eyes filled with reluctance to let her go.

"Wait for me. I’ll come for you."

Bai Wanwan could only nod. She watched him turn and disappear into the water, a faint sense of frustration welling up inside her.

She composed herself, pretended to swim two more laps, and then waved to Zhu Xiu on the bank.

"Zhu Xiu, I’ve had enough of a soak. Let’s go."

The dozing Zhu Xiu opened his eyes, glanced at her, and then his long tail wrapped around her.

He leaped, ascending the waterfall against its current.

The moment they reached the top, they startled a group of Beastmen.

"A King Cobra!"

The Beastmen paled in terror and immediately launched an attack on Zhu Xiu.

Bai Wanwan immediately saw a thick, black mist begin to pour rapidly from Zhu Xiu’s beastly form.

’This is bad!’

’She had worked for two days, and had finally managed to make the black mist around him fade.’

’But the moment a fight breaks out, he starts going berserk.’

Zhu Xiu’s thick, powerful tail swept out, sending two Beastmen flying.

The other Beastmen unleashed their Talent Powers, surrounding and attacking Zhu Xiu from all sides.

"Wait!" Bai Wanwan stuck her head out and shouted to the Beastmen. "Don’t fight! He’s not a wild beast, he’s my Beast Husband!"

’She didn’t know what tribe these males were from, but it would be a huge problem if Zhu Xiu killed them all.’

They hadn’t expected to see a beautiful female on the King Cobra’s back. In their moment of shock, Zhu Xiu struck.

Out of the seven or eight Beastmen, three were knocked down.

"He’s the one who attacked his own kind first! He’s wounded so many of our males!"

Zhu Xiu didn’t waste his breath on them, simply sweeping through them in a frenzy.

"Zhu Xiu, calm down!"

Zhu Xiu’s pupils had turned pitch-black. He opened his maw, his scarlet tongue flicking out with a HISS HISS, like a summons from the depths of hell.

’Bai Wanwan was frantic. Things had just been starting to stabilize. Who would have thought they’d run into these Beastmen and everything would get so out of control?’

’If this continued, all these Beastmen would die, Zhu Xiu would go completely berserk, and she might even get caught in the crossfire.’

"You can’t beat him! Take your wounded and get out of here!"

The Beastmen realized they were no match for Zhu Xiu. They seethed with hatred but didn’t dare to attack again.

Heeding Bai Wanwan’s words, they supported their injured companions and prepared to flee.

But Zhu Xiu immediately gave chase.

"Zhu Xiu, stop! Don’t chase them!"

She gritted her teeth. It was time to take a gamble!
