Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 106: Disappointment and Sadness
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Disappointment and Sadness
Bai Wanwan held him and watched for a moment, concluding it must be her own guilty conscience. Zhu Xiu didn’t seem to have noticed anything.
Once she relaxed, she felt hungry, but Zhu Xiu was still coiled tightly around her.
She reached out and patted his beast form. "Zhu Xiu, could you loosen up a bit? I’m not full yet."
Only then did the tail wrapped around her slowly unwind.
Back at the hearth, she hummed a song as she grilled a fish.
The aroma grew richer and richer. Bai Wanwan moved the grilled fish aside and began to feast.
When she was almost full, she remembered Zhu Xiu and quickly turned to look at him.
Zhu Xiu was coiled on the ground, his eyes wide open, staring right at her. There was no telling how long he had been watching.
Bai Wanwan cleaned up her dishes, rubbing her full, round belly as she walked over to him.
"Have you eaten yet?"
Bai Wanwan flopped onto the mattress beside him and rolled over comfortably.
After rolling over, she snuggled up closer to him. "You need to get better soon. Otherwise, I won’t have anyone to talk to. I can keep you company for a day or two, but if this goes on for too long, I really won’t be able to take it."
’It’s true they’re my Beast Husbands, so I have a responsibility toward them. I do have a sense of responsibility... just not a lot of it. So, I don’t know how long I can keep this up.’
「Two more days dragged by.」
She spent her days talking to herself, as Zhu Xiu was completely unable to respond.
It got to the point where she would stop a passing ant with a stick, forcing it to stay and "chat" for a bit.
"Zhu Xiu, I’m craving shrimp today. Could you go catch some for me?"
There were still plenty of fish in the water crock, but no shrimp.
So she used this as an excuse to send Zhu Xiu away, hoping Xin Feng was nearby and would come out to talk with her.
She just couldn’t take it anymore.
The King Cobra’s pitch-black eyes blinked twice.
Bai Wanwan felt a pang of guilt under his gaze. Just as she was about to say something to diffuse the tension, she saw Zhu Xiu head out of the cave with a flick of his Snake Tail.
She happily followed him to the mouth of the cave. "I can eat a ton of shrimp, so don’t hurry back! Catch plenty!"
The words were barely out of her mouth when Zhu Xiu blocked the entrance with a large rock, trapping her inside.
She waited a while. ’Zhu Xiu should be far away by now.’
She paced by the entrance, peering out through a gap beside the rock.
’Why isn’t he here?’
After waiting for quite some time, Xin Feng still hadn’t appeared.
Bai Wanwan figured her efforts today were probably wasted. ’Xin Feng is likely back in the tribe with the cubs.’
She still had an instinctive aversion to the darkness.
Instead of walking deeper into the cave, she leaned against the rock, wryly thinking to herself, ’This is no different than being in prison.’
"Wanwan..."
Bai Wanwan spun around, rushed to the gap to look out, and replied in delighted surprise, "So you were there!"
"Step back a bit. I’ll move the rock first."
"Okay." She immediately stepped aside.
Soon, the rock was moved aside, and Xin Feng strode in.
"Did you just get here? What took you so long?" she couldn’t help but ask.
"Zhu Xiu was still nearby. He hadn’t left, so I waited a while."
"He didn’t leave? Then what was he doing?" Bai Wanwan grew suspicious.
"He circled the area twice..."
Bai Wanwan suddenly felt that something was wrong. She remembered the day after Xin Feng’s last visit, when Zhu Xiu had slithered all around the cave, as if sniffing for something.
He hadn’t reacted much back then, so she had thought it was just a false alarm.
"Something’s wrong. You need to leave..."
She urged, pushing him toward the entrance.
"What’s wrong?" Xin Feng didn’t understand her sudden urgency.
At that moment, the light at the mouth of the cave was blotted out.
Bai Wanwan hadn’t even looked up before she caught sight of a colossal figure in her peripheral vision.
THUMP...
Bai Wanwan knew the feeling of her heart sinking to rock bottom.
Xin Feng spun around. Seeing the King Cobra coiled at the entrance, he took a step to the left, shielding Bai Wanwan behind him.
"Get back inside."
But Zhu Xiu gave them no time to react, his long tail whipping directly at Xin Feng.
Xin Feng instantly shifted into his beast form, hoisting Bai Wanwan onto his back. "Hold on tight."
Bai Wanwan was thrown upward; if not for Xin Feng’s warning, she would have been sent flying.
Once she had a firm grip, Xin Feng leaped three times in quick succession to dodge Zhu Xiu’s attack.
Seeing his chance, Xin Feng charged for the exit, but Zhu Xiu opened his massive jaws and lunged at him.
Xin Feng agilely kicked off the cave wall, darting into a blind spot beneath Zhu Xiu’s head. With another push, he leaped outside.
The evasive maneuvers had cost him precious time. The Snake Tail followed, slamming heavily into Xin Feng’s hind leg.
Focused on protecting Bai Wanwan, Xin Feng couldn’t defend himself in time and fell straight out of the air.
But even then, he managed to twist his body, curling around Bai Wanwan to use himself as a cushion against the impact with the ground.
Bai Wanwan shot up into a sitting position, her hands flying to his beast form. "Xin Feng, where are you hurt?"
She hadn’t seen the blow land, but she knew Xin Feng must have been hit to have fallen like that.
Just as Xin Feng was about to answer, his eyes shot past her to something behind.
"Look out!"
Xin Feng leaped up, trying to shield her, but he staggered.
Bai Wanwan spun around. Barely a meter in front of her, the King Cobra’s enormous head was an overwhelmingly oppressive sight. Its pitch-black eyes shone with a deadly, cold light.
"Zhu Xiu..."
She hadn’t finished speaking when Zhu Xiu reared up, opened his jaws, and lunged at Xin Feng with incredible speed.
In the nick of time, the Silver Wolf leaped onto a giant, nearby tree.
But his injured hind leg gave way, and he fell from the trunk, making Bai Wanwan’s heart clench.
After snapping several branches on his way down, Xin Feng caught the trunk again and scrambled back up.
The moment he found his footing, the Snake Tail struck again.
With no room to retreat and already injured, Xin Feng had no choice but to call upon his Talent Power.
A gale erupted around them, violently whipping up leaves, sand, and stone...
Bai Wanwan quickly turned her head to look. The black mist enveloping Zhu Xiu’s beast form was now so thick it looked like a layer of liquid.
’It’s over,’ she thought. She had endured a life that felt like a prison sentence just to stay by Zhu Xiu’s side, and she had only just managed to thin the black miasma around him.
And now she was back to square one!
The King Cobra’s aura was terrifyingly powerful. With Xin Feng already injured, he would surely suffer a devastating blow if the fight continued.
"Zhu Xiu, you need to calm down!"
But the enraged Zhu Xiu completely ignored her. When she tried to get closer, he shot upward into the air.
Bai Wanwan watched helplessly as the thick black mist on Zhu Xiu’s body billowed and twisted into a vortex, surging toward Xin Feng...
Xin Feng leaped from one large tree to another, desperately dodging.
The gale from his Talent Power blocked the black mist for a moment, but it was quickly overwhelmed and dispersed.
Eventually, the fight became a blur, and Bai Wanwan could no longer make out their individual moves.
The two males attacked each other with reckless abandon, as if they had no fear of death.
She paced back and forth anxiously.
It was like her left hand fighting her right; no matter who got hurt, it was a loss for her.
"Stop fighting! Both of you, stop right now!"
At first, Bai Wanwan kept her distance, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
But as she watched Xin Feng steadily lose ground, nearly getting swallowed by the vortex of black mist several times, her heart leaped into her throat. She couldn’t worry about her own safety anymore and ran straight for Zhu Xiu.
She couldn’t let anything happen to Xin Feng. He was the Beast Husband she herself had chosen after arriving in the Beast World.
She had spent the most time with him, and he held a very important place in her heart.
Panting for breath, she ran right up to Zhu Xiu and threw her arms around him.
Zhu Xiu, enraged, lowered his head and hissed furiously at her.
Bai Wanwan knew he had lost control. Her legs trembled, but she held her ground.
He hissed at her several times, but Bai Wanwan didn’t let go.
She thought she could see disappointment and sorrow in his eyes...
