Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Are You Worried About Me?

Yan Lie was about to turn away when his eyes lit up. He stared at Bai Wanwan without blinking. "Are you... worried about me?"

"Mhm. Stay safe."

The smile on Yan Lie’s face was more dazzling than the sun.

Just then, the Eagle Beast began to dive. Yan Lie didn’t have time to say more, only managing to promise, "Xin Feng and I will both come back safely."

With that, he transformed into a leopard and charged onto the rooftop.

Seeing that Xin Feng was injured, Yan Lie took the initiative to bear the brunt of the Eagle Beast’s attacks.

This indeed allowed Xin Feng to catch his breath, the pressure on him instantly lessening...

After Shi Hua moved the cubs to another room, she helped her Beast Husband sit down.

Bai Wanwan stood to one side and reminded her, "Shi Hua, you should check Mu Feng’s wounds. If they’re serious, he’ll need ointment."

Mu Feng spoke up to refuse. "No need. I’ll recover from a small wound like this quickly."

The medicine Bai Wanwan had used on him was far better than anything the Clan Witch had given him; it had to be precious.

Precious medicine should be used to save lives. His current injuries weren’t life-threatening; he could recover with some rest.

Considering he had already used so much of her medicine and this injury probably wasn’t life-threatening, she decided not to insist. After all, the ointment wasn’t cheap, and she would still need to treat Xin Feng and Yan Lie later.

Time slowly ticked by. The sounds from the rooftop continued all night—sometimes fierce, sometimes with little movement.

Both Bai Wanwan and Shi Hua eventually gave in to exhaustion and slept for a while.

But they didn’t sleep soundly. When they awoke, the roof was still intact.

Bai Wanwan stared at the ceiling for a moment, then quickly sat up.

’The roof isn’t broken, which means the Eagle Beast hasn’t gained the upper hand.’

It was quiet outside now. Shi Hua and Mu Feng were also asleep. Bai Wanwan quietly picked up some meat and went to the adjacent room, the one with the hole in its roof.

Through the hole, she could see the bright, glaring sky.

"Xin Feng? Yan Lie?"

She didn’t see the Eagle Beast, so she slowly walked to the center of the room and called up to the two males.

The moment she finished speaking, a leopard leaped down from above, quickly transforming into a human.

"Wanwan, we’re fine. Don’t worry."

Even after such a high-intensity battle, Yan Lie showed no signs of fatigue. His eyes still burned, as if with limitless passion.

Meanwhile, Xin Feng was sitting on the roof, his silver fur completely stained blood-red.

Bai Wanwan’s heart tightened. "You’re covered in blood and you say you’re fine? Come down. Let me take a look at your wounds."

As she spoke, she handed the piece of meat to Yan Lie. "You must be hungry. Eat this first."

Yan Lie immediately took it happily, his eyes fixed on her.

Bai Wanwan didn’t notice Yan Lie’s gaze. She walked directly beneath Xin Feng and waved up at him.

Xin Feng looked down at her with a gentle gaze. "Don’t worry about me. Most of this is the Eagle Beast’s blood. Yan Lie blocked a lot of attacks for me tonight; I’m barely injured."

After speaking, he sincerely thanked Yan Lie. "Thanks."

Yan Lie waved his hand, signaling that no thanks were needed.

Bai Wanwan slowly turned her head, her gaze falling back on Yan Lie. "Are you injured?"

Yan Lie felt he should appear strong and powerful in front of a female, so he immediately shook his head and said, "I’m not hurt."

’Liar!’

She had clearly just seen blood on his back.

"Come here. Let me check."

Yan Lie’s back still throbbed with a tearing pain. He must have been caught by the Eagle Beast’s claw when he wasn’t paying attention.

The wound was probably quite long.

He was afraid of scaring Bai Wanwan, so he shook his head. "It’s really nothing, you..."

Before he could finish, Bai Wanwan was already in front of him, pushing aside the tattered beast hide on his body.

His entire back was a bloody mess. The injury was serious.

’He’s this injured, and he still said it was nothing!’

Seeing Bai Wanwan’s face fall, Yan Lie grew a little nervous and hurriedly said, "This wound just looks a little scary, it’s not actually a big deal. It doesn’t even hurt that much."

"It doesn’t hurt? Should I press on it for you, then?"

The smile on Yan Lie’s lips froze for a moment. "You... press."

Bai Wanwan was speechless. ’What’s the point of putting up a front?’

She took out the ointment she had used on Mu Feng before and applied a thin layer to his wound.

Yan Lie had thought she would actually press on it. He was surprised when she only brushed her fingers lightly over the wound.

Then, he felt Wanwan lean in close to his back.

’What is Wanwan doing?’

Just as he was wondering, he felt a warm breath travel across his back.

The sharp pain of the wound seemed to be slowly carried away by that warm breath.

His breath hitched, and he couldn’t help but swallow hard.

’He... he really wanted to hold her.’

"There. It won’t hurt in a little while."

After she finished, she didn’t notice that the look in Yan Lie’s eyes had changed, gaining a new layer of determination.

’Even if Wanwan doesn’t like me, even if she doesn’t want me as her Beast Husband, I will watch over her and protect her for the rest of my life.’

Bai Wanwan turned her head and waved to Xin Feng. "There’s no Eagle Beast now, Xin Feng. Come down. I’ll put some ointment on you so your wounds will heal faster."

Xin Feng carefully surveyed his surroundings, not daring to let his guard down.

It was Yan Lie who stood up and said to him, "I’ll go up and keep watch. You come down and let Wanwan treat you."

Yan Lie immediately leaped up, taking Xin Feng’s place.

Only then did Xin Feng jump down, landing beside Bai Wanwan.

"Change into your human form. It’ll be easier for me to see."

After Xin Feng shifted into his human form, he was covered in shocking, ghastly bloodstains.

Bai Wanwan supported him, helping him sit down slowly on the sofa. She carefully peeled off his tattered beast hide.

"You call this ’barely injured’?"

Bai Wanwan’s voice was a mixture of anxiety and anger. His injuries were clearly even more severe than Yan Lie’s.

There was a deep gash on his waist, still seeping blood. On his shoulder were marks left by the Eagle Beast’s talons—a gory mess where the glint of bone was faintly visible.

Faced with a body full of wounds, the ointment Bai Wanwan had on hand was not enough.

She unhesitatingly opened her system panel and exchanged two thousand Points for a new tube of ointment.

She carefully applied the ointment for him, not missing a single wound.

"All done. You should get some rest."

The moment Bai Wanwan finished speaking, Xin Feng tried to get up. "I’ll go cook some meat for you. You must be hungry."

Bai Wanwan immediately reached out and stopped him. "You’re this injured, and you want to cook meat? Do you think I’d let myself starve?"

She brought the meat to him. "Eat some meat first, and then rest."

Xin Feng sighed but did as she said, sitting down to nurse his wounds.

Seeing that he wasn’t forcing himself to get up, Bai Wanwan finally went to prepare her own food.

Just then, Shi Hua woke up. Hearing the noise from the kitchen, she came over to help.

However, before the meal was even ready, the Eagle Beast circling in the sky attacked again.

After a full meal and treatment, the two males’ combat strength had greatly increased. In less than half an hour, they had once again repelled the Eagle Beast’s assault.

The intermittent fighting continued for nearly two days before the Eagle Beast’s attacks seemed to gradually cease.

Yan Lie walked up to Bai Wanwan with a smile, speaking as if reporting to his own female, "There are a lot fewer Eagle Beasts attacking us now. Wanwan, Xin Feng will guard the house. I’m going to the tribe to check on the situation."
