Chapter 198: Chapter 198: Zhu Xiu’s Interrogation

"Yes, my Beast Husbands said I passed out last night and they couldn’t wake me up, no matter what. They called for the Clan Witch, and she said my Divine Soul is unstable. What’s going on?"

Bai Wanwan quickly explained what had happened to it.

"Is that so?"

The system’s voice held a note of surprise. "No wonder I kept running diagnostics and couldn’t find any problems. The issue is with the fusion between your Divine Soul and your physical body."

"So what do I do now? My Divine Soul won’t just suddenly leave my body, forcing me to leave the Beast World Continent, will it?"

For the first time, the thought gave rise to a powerful sense of attachment and reluctance.

When she’d first arrived, she had taken things as they came without panicking too much, but her heart had always remained detached.

’I figured I had to live somewhere, right? At least here I don’t have a soul-crushing work schedule and can live a relaxed life.’

But slowly, she gained Beast Husbands, and then cubs.

Their kindness had silently pried open the hard shell around her heart, carving out a space for themselves, piece by piece.

It had reached the point where she could no longer ignore them or treat them like strangers she could say a final goodbye to without a second thought.

"Wait, let me think of a solution."

"Well, think fast."

After Hua Sheng’s voice faded from her mind, Bai Wanwan looked back at the males staring intently at her.

She forced a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry. It’s just a small problem, and it’ll be solved soon."

"Really?" Yan Lie relaxed, a glimmer of light returning to his eyes.

Xin Feng had been with Bai Wanwan the longest and knew her expressions best.

Her smile didn’t reach her eyes.

Zhu Xiu didn’t believe her either; a situation that dangerous couldn’t possibly be just a small problem.

Worried they would see through her, Bai Wanwan threw back the covers and made to get up.

Xin Feng brought over a basin of water to help her wash up.

Yan Lie eagerly went to cook some fish soup.

After Bai Wanwan had washed up and finished breakfast.

The three males were still gathered around her.

"Why aren’t you out hunting?" she asked, turning to look at them.

"We’re not going today. There’s enough food at home," Zhu Xiu replied.

Bai Wanwan knew they were worried about her. Zhu Xiu and Xin Feng were able to restrain themselves, only locking their gazes on her from time to time.

Yan Lie, on the other hand, wouldn’t leave her side for even a moment.

Bai Wanwan suddenly stopped and stared intently at his face. "How did you get that wound on your face?"

Inside the stone house just now, the light had been too dim for her to clearly see the wound on Yan Lie’s cheek.

A flicker passed through Zhu Xiu’s eyes as he, too, stared at the wound on Yan Lie’s face.

Yan Lie just chuckled. "I was in a bit of a hurry on the path last night and tripped."

Bai Wanwan reached out and touched the wound, shooting him a look. "A big guy like you still trips over his own feet."

Yan Lie grabbed her hand, his eyes seeming to sparkle like stars. "A little scratch like this is nothing."

That’s what he said, but when Zhu Xiu wasn’t looking, he pestered Bai Wanwan to touch the wound and blow on it until he was finally satisfied.

No matter how clingy Yan Lie was, even he had to answer nature’s call.

The moment his back was turned, he returned to find Bai Wanwan gone. Only Xin Feng was home, looking after the cub.

"Where’s Wanwan?"

Then he noticed Zhu Xiu was also gone. "Did he take Wanwan away again?"

Xin Feng, not at all surprised, glanced up at him while holding the cub. "Zhu Xiu has some questions for Wanwan. They’ll be back when he’s done."

’If he asked in front of us, Wanwan would probably hide the truth anyway.’

’I wouldn’t force Wanwan if she didn’t want to talk, but I’m still worried about her condition.’

’If Zhu Xiu can get her to talk, we can figure out what to do. Then, if she were to pass out again, maybe we’d have a way to handle it.’

As Zhu Xiu carried Bai Wanwan along the path, other Beastmen frequently glanced over at them.

She paid their stares no mind, her arms wrapped around Zhu Xiu’s neck as she gazed at his handsome face and the sharp line of his jaw.

"Where are you taking me?"

"I’m taking you away from the tribe, to a place where there aren’t many other Beastmen. Maybe then you’ll be willing to tell me the truth."

Zhu Xiu said, looking down at her.

Bai Wanwan’s eyes darted around, a guilty conscience making her stammer, "What... truth?"

Zhu Xiu pressed his lips together. "Wanwan, I want to hear the truth. Whatever danger there is, can’t we face it together?"

It was rare for Zhu Xiu to speak to her with such a gentle tone, and Bai Wanwan’s heart softened in response.

’But if I tell him... if Zhu Xiu finds out I’m from an Otherworld and that I might disappear, could he accept that?’

Her emotions were in turmoil. Seeing the gravity of the situation in her expression, the line of Zhu Xiu’s mouth grew tighter.

He carried Bai Wanwan out of the Golden Lion Tribe and onto a vast, endless grassland. Apart from the two of them, the only others in sight were males hunting in the distance.

"This is far enough. You can put me down now."

Bai Wanwan tugged on his arm, but Zhu Xiu didn’t put her down. He just looked down at her. "Talk..."

Held so intimately in his arms, Bai Wanwan’s throat felt tight, and she found it hard to speak.

Zhu Xiu took a soft breath, steeling himself.

"Whatever it is, just tell me, and we’ll figure it out together."

"Then... you can’t get agitated. I’m worried that if you get too worked up, it’ll trigger the Dark Curse."

What she didn’t know was that it had already been triggered the night before. But because he now had some resistance to the Dark Curse, he had managed to force it back down.

"I won’t. I’ll control myself."

Bai Wanwan gazed at his face, hesitated for a moment, and finally said, "The truth is... I’m not Bai Wanwan."

At her words, Zhu Xiu’s handsome brows furrowed distinctly.

But he remained silent, simply waiting for her to continue.

Bai Wanwan gathered her thoughts, unconsciously tugging on his sleeve as she went on. "I come from another world, a place completely different from the Beast World. We’re just people. We don’t transform; we’re always in our human forms, just like this. But we’re very weak. We don’t have Talent Power like you do."

Zhu Xiu listened quietly the entire time. Only then did he ask, "Then how did you end up here? I heard from Xin Feng that you’ve always lived in the Cat Clan Tribe."

Bai Wanwan nodded. "He’s not wrong. Bai Wanwan did always live in the Cat Clan Tribe. But that was the *original* Bai Wanwan. I had... an accident. I traveled through time and space and ended up here, becoming Bai Wanwan... Does that make any sense to you?"

Zhu Xiu didn’t really understand, but he planned to let her finish before trying to piece it all together.

"Keep going."

"Before I came here, I was at a team-building event with my colleagues when someone maliciously pushed me off a cliff. But I didn’t fall. The next thing I knew, I woke up as Bai Wanwan."

"So you’re saying that after you arrived in this world, Bai Wanwan’s body became yours. Is that right?"

"Yes. And that’s probably why my soul and her body haven’t fused completely, which is what caused what happened last night."

Bai Wanwan felt the arms holding her tighten abruptly. "If you and this body can’t fuse completely... will you leave? Will you go back to your original world?"

’It’s not that easy!’

’The system said I need Points to activate travel through time and space.’

’If I leave this way, I’m afraid it won’t end well!’
