Yan Lie sensed Jin Yi’s return and turned to look at him, unable to wipe the smile from his face in time.

"You should rest. I’ll go hunting next time."

He spoke in a lighthearted tone, as if his injuries were nothing.

Bai Wanwan opened her mouth to speak, but Yan Lie gently squeezed her hand, winked at her, and whispered, "Don’t worry. It’s just hunting. Nothing will happen."

She hesitated for a moment, but ultimately didn’t press the issue.

’It was best to keep the secret, if possible. Besides, things weren’t so desperate that they had to reveal it just yet.’

"Let’s talk about it after you’ve healed."

Jin Yi grunted in acknowledgment and dropped the beast he had hunted onto the ground with a clean, decisive motion.

He was injured as well but paid it no mind, swiftly skinning and butchering the prey with practiced ease.

He had already drained the animal’s blood outside to keep the scent from attracting other predators.

He carved off the most tender cuts of meat, stacking them neatly to one side. Without looking up, he said, "Come and eat when you’re ready. I already ate."

After carving the meat, he stood up and walked to a corner to inspect his wounds.

He had just sat down when a slender shadow fell over him.

Jin Yi looked up to find Bai Wanwan standing before him. Her beautiful face was etched with concern, her eyes fixed on his wounds.

"Let me put some medicine on that for you. It’ll help you heal faster," she offered, her tone gentle.

"No need," he refused instinctively. "It’s just a minor wound. It’ll heal in a few days."

It was common for males to get injured; a superficial wound like this was nothing.

If he were her Beast Husband, Bai Wanwan might have just gone ahead and applied the medicine herself.

As it was, she hesitated for a moment before holding out the ointment. "This medicine works wonders. You’ll be fully healed by tomorrow if you apply it. We’ll all be safer with you back at full strength."

When Jin Yi didn’t take it, she pressed the ointment into his hand, gave him a small smile, and turned back to Yan Lie’s side.

Jin Yi clutched the ointment, his gaze unconsciously following her.

Over there, Bai Wanwan was checking Yan Lie for any wounds she might have missed.

"Does it hurt anywhere else?"

Yan Lie immediately started nodding furiously, his bright eyes fixed on her. "I hurt all over. But it won’t hurt anymore if you blow on it again for me."

’Of course, Bai Wanwan could tell Yan Lie was just being a brat, but he really was covered in injuries.’

’He had never seen... a female who pampered a male so much.’

Bai Wanwan followed his gaze and turned just in time to see Jin Yi look away.

"Do you not know how to use it?"

Bai Wanwan immediately gathered her skirt, stood up, and walked over to him.

The female’s soft voice and the sweet fragrance wafting from her made Jin Yi’s entire body tense up as if he were facing a powerful enemy.

And... he wasn’t sure if his eyes were playing tricks on him, but he could have sworn he saw the blood that had seeped out retract back into the wound.

A tingling, numbing sensation spread over the once-gruesome wound.

He treated a few more of the more serious wounds, then set down the half-used tube of ointment.

’Ointment this good should be saved for life-or-death situations. There’s no need to waste it on minor injuries like these.’

The sky slowly darkened, and the light inside the cave gradually faded.

Jin Yi leaned back in his corner. "You two go ahead and sleep. I’ll keep watch tonight."

"No, I’ll do it," Yan Lie said. "You must be exhausted after spending the last two days searching for us. I’ve just been hiding in a cave, so I haven’t wasted much energy."

’Besides, with Wanwan right here, there was no way he could sleep soundly in this environment anyway.’

"Mm," Bai Wanwan hummed, turning slightly and draping her slender arm around his lean waist before closing her eyes.

The cave was very quiet. It wasn’t long before Bai Wanwan’s tense body finally relaxed, and she gradually drifted off into a deep sleep.

Yan Lie looked down at the female in his arms. Worried she might be uncomfortable, he pulled her fully into his embrace, so she wouldn’t be leaning against the hard, cold wall of the cave.

Bai Wanwan, fast asleep, was completely unaware. She only felt toasty warm and incredibly comfortable...
