Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Looking for Me?

After using the restroom, Bai Wanwan went straight home instead of rejoining the crowd in the square.

The cubs were wide awake and full of energy after their nap.

Hearing the commotion outside, they all got excited and tried to rush out.

But none succeeded. Their Father Beast snatched them all back.

Xin Feng came out of the house and glanced at the still-bustling square. "Not staying to enjoy it a bit longer?" he asked.

Bai Wanwan yawned and replied casually, "There’s nothing else going on, and I’m getting sleepy."

"Then sit down for a moment. I’ll go fetch some water for you. You can wash up and get some rest."

Between her pregnancy and the summer weather, Wanwan was feeling extra drowsy.

Soon after, once she was washed up and had lain down, Bai Wanwan fell into a deep, sweet sleep.

Her three beast husbands, however, were wide awake. They sat by the doorway, simultaneously stopping the cubs from running out and keeping an eye on the goings-on outside as they talked.

"You didn’t notice Roger was in the woods earlier."

Yan Lie knew it was his fault and was frustrated with himself. "It was too noisy outside, and the smell of the forest was overwhelming. I really didn’t notice him."

Zhu Xiu then turned to Xin Feng. "You know Roger?"

"Yes, we’re acquainted. I saved him once."

"He knows Wanwan is a Holy Female. That beastman... cannot be allowed to live."

He hadn’t revealed his killing intent while Wanwan was present.

It didn’t matter if Roger had looked after Wanwan in the past; he couldn’t allow such a potential threat to exist.

If word got out that Wanwan was a Holy Female, even the Super Tribes would move to seize her.

He couldn’t tolerate such a secret getting out, nor could he risk the consequences of losing Wanwan.

A flicker of emotion crossed Xin Feng’s eyes. "You’re going to kill Roger?"

"Yes. You two look after Wanwan. I’m going out."

Xin Feng, however, didn’t seem to fully agree. "Roger’s caravan has grown much stronger. It probably won’t be that easy to make a move. Be careful."

"I know. I’ll go scout things out first."

After he spoke, Zhu Xiu rose, walked out the main door, and vanished into the night.

Soon, only Xin Feng and Yan Lie were left in the house, watching the cubs.

"Are you going to sleep, or are you going to stay here and keep watch?"

"I’m not tired. I’ll watch the cubs. You can go if you have something to take care of."

"I’m fine. I doubt Zhu Xiu will be able to pull it off tonight."

Ever since he’d learned that Wanwan had met Roger in the forest, he had been observing the beastmen in the square.

He’d quickly located Roger, whose gaze had barely left Wanwan all evening.

And throughout the entire evening, besides helping Wanwan eat, he had kept his own eyes fixed on Roger, to prevent him from doing anything that might harm her.

During that time, he’d seen several groups of beastmen approach Roger.

Those beastmen looked like they had high-level Talents, and their overall strength was much greater than that of Roger’s previous caravans.

Meanwhile, after Bai Wanwan left, Roger waited for a long time. When she didn’t return, he also got up and left.

Back at the quarters the Clan Leader had arranged for them, Roger felt no desire to sleep. His beastmen were inside, eating meat and making a ruckus.

He stood alone by the window, staring up at the full moon, lost in thought.

After a short while, a beastman hurried to his side and whispered something to him.

Roger turned back, his brow furrowed in thought. "It’s still early. Don’t make a move for now."

He then added, "You and Mu Yan will stand watch tonight. Be on high alert. It won’t be a peaceful night."

The other beastman was visibly stunned for a moment. "Captain, we’re inside the tribe’s territory. Do we really need to be this guarded?"

This should have been the one time they could relax and rest.

’If I hadn’t gone to find Bai Wanwan, perhaps tonight could have been our most relaxing night.’

’But now Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husbands know I’m here, especially that one called Zhu Xiu...’

’His vertical pupils had flashed with a sinister light. If it weren’t for him, I would never have been so gravely injured, and none of the subsequent events would have occurred.’

’But I don’t regret it. Even if it means inviting all this trouble, just seeing Bai Wanwan once and confirming that she’s really alive made it all worth it.’

"We do. Remember my words. You and Mu Yan cannot relax for a single moment. Otherwise, none of us will live to see the morning sun."

Hearing Roger say this, the beastman’s expression turned grim.

’Their caravan only had four Yellow Rank Males in total, and the captain was ordering two of them to stand watch.’

’This was unprecedented. It was starting to make him nervous.’

After giving his orders, Roger glanced outside, then turned and walked to a wall, leaning back against it and closing his eyes.

He needed to conserve his strength; he still had very important things to do.

Gradually, the boisterous sounds from the tribe faded away, and the surroundings grew perfectly silent.

The two beastmen from Roger’s caravan on night watch sat near the door and window, staring blankly at each other.

Mu Yan was baffled. "The captain wants both of us on watch?"

"Yes. Just do as the captain says. Be extra careful tonight."

Just as he finished speaking, Mu Yan thought he heard a noise from outside.

"SHH, I’ll go take a look."

Mu Yan started to get up but was yanked back down by the other beastman. "Don’t go. Just guard our post. We’re not here to eliminate dangers; we’re here to complete our mission."

Only then did Mu Yan manage to suppress the urge to rush out and investigate.

Zhu Xiu had deliberately made a noise outside, but not a single beastman came out to investigate.

He’d even... overheard the two beastmen’s conversation.

’They’re here to complete a mission? What mission?’

Because of that one sentence, Zhu Xiu fought back the urge to charge in and kill Roger.

He was also very curious about what exactly they were doing in the Golden Lion Tribe.

’Back on the snow plains, the blow I dealt Roger should have been enough to take his life.’

’Yet he survived, and it seems his power has even grown.’

Zhu Xiu hesitated for a moment before finally turning to leave.

「The next morning」

Bai Wanwan woke up with a lazy stretch.

By the time she finished washing up and walked to the door, she saw that the Central Square was already packed with beastmen.

Bai Wanwan couldn’t help but turn to ask, "Xin Feng, are there more activities today?"

"Yes, there are. Let me just feed the cubs, and then I’ll go take a look with you."

"Okay. Have Zhu Xiu and Yan Lie already gone hunting?"

Bai Wanwan took a sip of water, set the stone cup on the table, and asked casually.

"Yan Lie went hunting. Zhu Xiu didn’t say."

Zhu Xiu was the most elusive one in the household; no one ever knew what he was up to.

Early that morning, Zhu Xiu was already staking out Roger and his group of beastmen.

After they finished eating, he saw Roger leave the residence with three or four other beastmen, heading toward the edge of the tribe’s territory.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Zhu Xiu began to shadow them.

Zhu Xiu would not let such a perfect opportunity pass. It was best to deal with Roger outside the tribe’s grounds.

That way, he wouldn’t have to give the Jin Cang Clan Leader an explanation.

Zhu Xiu tailed the group from a distance. Only after watching them enter the mountain forest did he pick up his pace to follow.

Once inside the woods, his footsteps were nearly silent as he scanned for the slightest sound or movement.

But he found that even their scent had vanished.

He frowned. Just as he was about to turn left, a voice called out from ahead and to the side.

"Looking for me?"
