Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Admiration

Bai Wanwan remained in a groggy sleep for several days. During that time, she felt someone pry open her mouth and pour a watery gruel down her throat.

"This is bad. She has a fever! Yin Ze, quick, go get the Clan Witch."

Yin Ze glanced at the female on the bed, her cheeks flushed red from the fever. Without a word, he turned and strode out of the stone house on his long legs.

Yin Mei reached out to check her forehead again. Each time, her brows knitted together a little more tightly.

She went to the door several times to check, but seeing no sign of Yin Ze returning with the Clan Witch, she grew increasingly anxious and began to pace around the room.

CREAK!

Yin Ze pushed the door open and entered. Yin Mei let out a sigh of relief and quickly said to the Clan Witch, "Clan Witch, this young female has a fever. Please, take a look at her."

"Alright, don’t you two worry. Let me take a look."

The Clan Witch gently turned Bai Wanwan’s body, examining her carefully before saying, "It’s nothing serious. Her injuries are healing. I’ll give her some Silver Leaf Grass and see how that helps."

Bai Wanwan had a series of bizarre dreams. One moment, she was breaking up with her ex-boyfriend in her past life; the next, the figures of several males flashed by, too fast for her to grasp any detail.

She didn’t know how much time had passed. Drenched in sweat and gasping for breath, she opened her eyes to stare at the dark ceiling of the stone house.

’It felt like I had so many dreams, but... I don’t remember any of them.’

Yin Mei hadn’t gone anywhere, keeping a constant vigil by her side. Seeing that she was awake, relief washed over her face. "Beast God be praised. Young female, you’re finally awake."

After running a fever for so many days, Bai Wanwan’s mind was sluggish. She slowly turned her eyes to look at the female beside her.

At last, she placed her, connecting the female’s face to the events of the past few days.

"It’s you... Thank you."

Her voice was terribly hoarse, as raspy as a bellows.

Without a word, Yin Mei came over and helped her sit up. She lifted a nearby stone bowl to her lips. "Your fever just broke. Drinking more water will help you feel much better."

Bai Wanwan was indeed incredibly thirsty. The moment her cracked lips touched the water, she opened her mouth almost instinctively, gulping it down.

Seeing her finish the whole bowl of water, Yin Mei said, pleased, "It’s a good sign that you have an appetite. Are you hungry now? I can bring you something to eat."

Bai Wanwan remembered the raw meat she had seen the other day, and her empty stomach began to churn.

"Thank you, but I don’t want any meat. Is there any fruit?"

Yin Mei paused for a moment. "Yes, there is. Wait here."

Having just begun to recover, Bai Wanwan didn’t have much of an appetite. She took the fruit Yin Mei handed her and took a bite.

It was perfectly sweet and sour, with a decent flavor.

But she still had no appetite. She forced herself to finish two of them and then couldn’t eat another bite.

"Your name is Yin Mei, right? I seem to remember that."

Yin Mei nodded. "That’s right. You remember? What about you? What’s your name? What tribe are you from?"

"I... I think my name is Bai Wanwan. As for my tribe... I don’t remember."

Hearing this, Yin Mei’s heart went out to her even more. "It’s alright, there’s no rush. When you remember, we can have Yin Ze take you back."

’Bai Wanwan was grateful to the two siblings from the bottom of her heart. If it weren’t for them, between the underground river, her injury, and the fever... she probably wouldn’t have survived. She would never forget that they had saved her life.’

"Does your head still hurt?" Yin Mei asked gently.

Bai Wanwan carefully assessed the feeling. There was still a slight twinge of pain when she moved her head, but it was nothing like the intense agony she’d felt when she first woke up.

It had clearly lessened a great deal.

"It doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s much better."

"Would you like to go for a walk? I’ll go with you."

Bai Wanwan was also eager to get a better sense of her surroundings.

Her mind was a complete blank, and it left her feeling extremely insecure.

"Yes, let’s go for a walk."

Yin Mei reached out to support her. Feeling a little light-headed, Bai Wanwan didn’t refuse the kind gesture.

She let Yin Mei help her all the way outside.

Once outside, Bai Wanwan noticed the female beside her was staring intently at her.

She couldn’t help but turn to her. "Sister Yin Mei, am I really dirty right now?"

Yin Mei smiled and shook her head. "Not at all. I was just staring because you’re so beautiful."

Yin Mei was telling the truth. They came from the Super Tribe, the Phoenix Clan, and their tribe had several Holy Females.

But she had never seen a female as beautiful as Bai Wanwan.

Her skin was as white as snow, perfectly clean and without a single blemish.

Her features were so lovely that Yin Mei found she couldn’t tear her eyes away.

Bai Wanwan hadn’t expected that to be the reason she was staring.

For a moment, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’I’m a sickly mess. How many days has it been since I’ve washed?’

"Sister Yin Mei, if you like looking at beautiful faces, you should go to the river and look at your own reflection. Then you’ll know what beautiful really looks like."

Yin Mei faltered for a moment. When she realized Bai Wanwan was complimenting her, her face showed no sign of happiness. Instead, a bitter smile appeared.

Bai Wanwan belatedly realized her attempt at flattery had backfired, hitting a sore spot instead.

"Sister Yin Mei, did I say something wrong? Please, don’t be..."

Before she could finish, Yin Mei gently took her hand and patted it. "It has nothing to do with you. It’s my own issue."

Seeing the sorrow that clouded her features, Bai Wanwan couldn’t bear to see such a beautiful woman in distress, especially one who was so gentle and kind.

She immediately said, "Sister Yin Mei, if you don’t mind, you can tell me what’s troubling you. Maybe I can help you think of a solution."

’What kind of solution could she possibly think of? Fertility is determined by fate.’

But looking at Bai Wanwan’s worried expression, she found herself unable to refuse.

So, in a low voice, she began to tell her story.

"My fertility is too low, but I was born with a face that’s considered pretty. So after I came of age, they couldn’t wait to send me to the Female Cave..."

’Female Cave...’

The term felt strangely familiar to Bai Wanwan, but before she could think too deeply about it, she heard Yin Mei continue, "It’s the rule of the clan. Since I can’t have children, I must contribute to the tribe in that way. But... I don’t want to."

"So... Yin Ze ran away with you?"

"Yes. He could have had a good life. He could have even become mates with a Holy Female. But because of me... he’s trapped here."

As Bai Wanwan listened, her admiration for the male named Yin Ze grew.

"Sister Yin Mei, you shouldn’t think that way. If you were living a life of suffering, how could he possibly be happy? Was he very fond of that Holy Female?"

"Not particularly, but for any male, becoming mates with a Holy Female is considered the most perfect outcome."

Bai Wanwan smiled. "You aren’t him. Maybe in his heart, that’s not the most perfect choice. What if... he meets a female he genuinely likes here, or somewhere else?"

Bai Wanwan’s words seemed to open Yin Mei’s eyes to a new perspective.

"You’re right. If we can’t go back, we should look forward. Yin Ze will find a female he likes someday."

When Yin Ze returned from the hunt, the first thing he saw was a cleaned-up Bai Wanwan.

Despite just recovering from her illness, her face showed no trace of sickness. It was fair and rosy, exceptionally beautiful.

He found his gaze lingering on her face for a moment longer.
