Chapter 505: Chapter 502: Then We Fight
Yin Ze nodded and added, "I know of several larger islands along the way. They’re covered in dense vegetation, so they should have fresh water. If something unexpected happens, we can change our plans then."
"I have no objections," Yan Lie said.
Hua Han also said with a smile, "I have no objections either."
The males all turned to look at Bai Wanwan.
"Alright, let’s go with that plan then."
After speaking, she took the arm of Shuang Hua beside her. "Aunt Shuang, we’ll be crossing this sea on Yin Ze’s back. If you feel uncomfortable, just close your eyes and rest."
Shuang Hua patted the back of her hand. "Don’t worry. I’m not afraid of anything now."
"Okay, then. Let’s eat something and get ready to leave."
With the discussion settled, Yin Ze walked to an open area.
A red light flowed around his body. With a long, clear cry of a phoenix, an enormous Fire Phoenix with magnificent, brilliant wings appeared before them. Its gorgeous tail feathers nearly dragged on the ground as it radiated a powerful pressure and searing heat, making the little cubs howl with excitement.
The males carefully helped Bai Wanwan and Shuang Hua up, then carried the little cubs one by one onto the Phoenix’s broad, steady back.
The Phoenix’s feathers were more comfortable than the softest blanket.
Once everyone was settled, the males also leaped onto the Phoenix’s back.
Bai Wanwan and Shuang Hua sat with the cubs in the safest spot in the middle. Zhu Xiu, Yan Lie, Xin Feng, Jin Yi, and Hua Han, like well-trained guards, sat along the edges, forming a protective circle around them while vigilantly watching the sky and the sea.
"Hold on tight!" Yin Ze let out a sharp cry. His massive wings snapped open and with a powerful flap, they kicked up a strong gust of wind. His enormous body then lifted lightly into the air, soaring straight into the clouds.
Soon, everything on the ground grew tiny.
Below them was the boundless, azure ocean, like a giant, flowing sapphire shimmering under the sun.
The clouds seemed within arm’s reach, and the wind howled past their ears. This feeling of soaring between heaven and earth was so free and wonderful that Bai Wanwan’s own spirits lifted.
However, the weather over the vast ocean was unpredictable.
After flying for the better part of half a day, the once-calm sea ahead began to churn with whitecaps. The wind also grew stronger, causing the Phoenix’s feathers to ruffle slightly.
Dark clouds gathered on the horizon, and the faint rumbling of thunder could be heard.
Feeling the Phoenix beneath her buffet slightly as it tried to maintain a steady flight, Bai Wanwan subconsciously tightened her grip on the phoenix feathers beside her.
Yan Lie, sitting beside her, immediately noticed her tension. He reached out his large hand and firmly grasped her cool one, his voice bright and filled with a reassuring strength. "Wanwan, don’t be afraid! This is just a small, common squall at sea. It’s no threat to us. You have no idea how dangerous it was when we first came looking for you! The massive waves were like rolling mountains crashing down, and lightning was striking right at our heels. Now *that* was scary!"
Hearing him say that, Bai Wanwan’s mind immediately conjured images of apocalyptic tsunami scenes she had seen in movies. The mere thought was suffocatingly terrifying and hopeless.
And yet, to find her, her males had braved that kind of death-defying danger, crossing this terrifying ocean without a second thought to reach a strange new continent.
Thinking of this, her heart felt as if it were soaking in a warm spring, tender and aching, filled to the brim with emotion.
She squeezed Yan Lie’s hand in return, her gaze sweeping over the males beside her, who were always vigilant, always sheltering her from the wind and rain. In her heart, she made a silent vow: ’In this life, I will give them my all and treat them as well as I possibly can.’
’If there really is a next life, and a life after that, and a life after that, I want to find them and be with them forever.’
Fortunately, the terrifying scene Yan Lie described did not materialize.
The squall seemed to be just passing through. Yin Ze skillfully adjusted their altitude and direction, cleverly avoiding the heart of the storm.
After flying for a while longer, the dark clouds gradually dispersed, and the sea once again became as calm as a mirror, as if the earlier turbulence had been nothing but an illusion.
It was unclear how long they had been flying smoothly when Zhu Xiu, who had been keeping watch ahead, suddenly said in a low voice, "There’s something up ahead."
Hearing this, everyone immediately looked in the direction he was pointing. In the distant sky, a dense, dark "cloud" had appeared. It was moving at an unnatural speed and gradually growing larger.
"What is that?" Bai Wan narrowed her eyes. The distance was too great for her to see clearly, but she found its movement unsettling.
The males’ eyesight was far superior to hers. A moment later, Yan Lie’s expression darkened, and he said in a cold voice, "Eagle Beasts! A huge flock!"
Eagle Beasts again!
’These damn pests are like a persistent plague, always popping up to disgust me,’ Bai Wanwan thought. ’They prey on the weak and stop at nothing.’
Bai Wanwan frowned in annoyance.
If they were on land, she would have her Beast Husbands get rid of these menaces without a moment’s hesitation.
But right now, they were over the vast, open sea, with the bottomless ocean below. For Land Beastmen like them, and even for Yin Ze, a Fire Phoenix, the environment was extremely disadvantageous.
If something went wrong, the consequences would be unthinkable.
’Forget it. Better to avoid trouble.’ Bai Wanwan suppressed her disgust and gave a decisive order, "Yin Ze, let’s go around them. Avoid the trouble."
"Alright." Yin Ze responded. Tilting his giant wings, he carved a graceful arc in the sky and began to climb, preparing to give the troublesome area a wide berth.
However, just as they were deviating from their original course and flying over a scattering of islands, the sharp-eyed Hua Han suddenly pointed to a larger island below and said, "What are those Eagle Beasts attacking?"
Everyone immediately focused their gaze downward.
On the island’s beaches and reef areas, a dark mass of Eagle Beasts, like a cloud of death, was frantically attacking several figures.
These figures had distinct fish-like features, their scales glinting in the sunlight as they struggled to fight back. Behind them, they seemed to be protecting several smaller, trembling figures.
"It’s the Merfolk," Xin Feng said with a frown. "And their young!"
Seeing the terrified little Merfolk huddled in the middle, Bai Wanwan instantly thought of her own cubs back with the Tiger Clan, and her heart clenched painfully.
’Putting myself in their shoes, there’s no way I can just stand by and do nothing!’
"Zhu Xiu!" Bai Wanwan immediately turned her head, her gaze firm as she looked at her first Beast Husband. "We’re going down to help them! And while we’re at it, let’s get rid of these damn Eagle Beasts. What do you say?"
A bloodthirsty, cold light flashed in Zhu Xiu’s reddish eyes. "Alright."
His answer was crisp and decisive. If it weren’t for his concern for Wanwan and the cubs’ safety, he would never have shown mercy to Eagle Beasts.
’If Wanwan wants to get rid of them, then we fight!’
