Chapter 543 - 540: The Atmosphere Isn’t Quite Right
Chapter 543: Chapter 540: The Atmosphere Isn’t Quite Right
"Alright," he said, his voice low and soft. "Let’s go together."
Beastmen patrolled the outskirts of the tribe, but the stretch of river behind their home was relatively secluded and rarely visited.
The river was crystal clear, its surface glinting under the sunlight.
Once they reached the riverbank, a playful urge seized Bai Wanwan. She slipped off her shoes and socks, rolled up her trousers, and prepared to wade into the water to explore, just like she used to.
Xin Feng carefully steadied her, reminding, "Be careful, the stones are slippery. You’re carrying a cub right now."
Bai Wanwan wasn’t experiencing any of the typical symptoms other females did during pregnancy. Aside from her swelling belly, she was completely unaffected and felt just like her usual self. She wasn’t even afraid of falling, thanks to the system protecting her.
"Don’t worry,"
But no sooner had the words left her mouth than her foot slipped, and she plopped right into the shallows. Her dress was instantly soaked through.
The cool river water made her yelp. Her endearingly clumsy appearance instantly overlapped with a memory from deep within Xin Feng’s mind—the moment they first met.
She had been just like this then, falling into the water.
And when he had turned to look, he saw the female the Beast God had gifted him.
Only, back then, he hadn’t known she was the female he would one day protect with his very life.
Bai Wanwan reached a hand out to him, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Xin Feng could see she was up to no good, yet he was powerless to deny her anything she asked.
His long fingers enveloped her small hand. Just as he was about to pull, Bai Wanwan splashed him.
Her peals of laughter rang out, making an involuntary smile curve his own lips.
After letting her have her fun for a while, both of them were practically soaked to the bone.
And with her clothes clinging to her, the female’s beautiful, delicate figure was on full display.
"Wanwan..." His Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice instantly dropping to a husky growl. "The water’s cold. I’ll carry you back so you can change." He bent down, reaching to lift her into his arms.
But Bai Wanwan seized the moment, wrapping her arms around his neck. Instead of letting him lift her, she tilted her head back, deliberately brushing her soft, wet lips against his prominent Adam’s apple.
The arms Xin Feng had placed under her hips and knees instantly tensed, his muscles turning as hard as rock.
Bai Wanwan lifted her wet lashes, her eyes silky and seductive, flashing with a bold, teasing light. Her voice was feather-light and soft. "Don’t you want to... right here?"
They were surrounded by dense reeds taller than a person, forming a natural screen. In the distance, the only sound was the SHUSH of the wind through the leaves.
More importantly, his soaked clothes clung to his well-defined chest, and droplets of water trickled down his collarbones. The sight of him—so restrained, yet so sexy—made her want to "devour" him right then and there.
Xin Feng’s breathing grew noticeably heavier, but he still held himself in check. "Be good. You’ll catch a cold."
Thinking her charms had failed, Bai Wanwan grew indignant. Her submerged legs deliberately wrapped around his powerful waist, and her small, cool hands mischievously slipped into the gap of the beast hide at his waist, tracing the taut, perfect lines of his abs.
Xin Feng sucked in a sharp breath, grabbing her mischievous hand. His voice was so hoarse it was barely a whisper. "Wanwan, don’t tease..."
"I won’t catch a cold," she said confidently, tightening her hold on his neck and initiating a kiss, pressing her lips to his soft, beautifully shaped mouth.
The male’s restraint and forbearance gradually melted into a sigh of resignation under her insistent advances, finally surrendering completely to the heat of compromise.
He carefully lifted her from the water and took a few steps onto the bank. He spread out the change of clothes he’d brought for Wanwan on a clear patch of ground, then gently laid the soaked female from his arms upon them.
The afternoon sun filtered through sparse blades of grass, casting dappled light on her fair, almost luminous skin. She was flawless, breathtakingly beautiful.
The next moment, the male’s tall, imposing figure descended over her, completely enveloping her and shielding her from the rather scorching sun.
The river gurgled, and the blades of grass swayed.
Amidst their rising and falling, every soft whimper that escaped the female’s lips was captured by the male’s kisses, silenced and consumed.
The sun gradually dipped westward, its light turning golden and hazy. It traced the two tightly embraced figures by the riverbank with a warm, ambiguous glow, creating a scene that was both vibrant with life and incredibly alluring.
Xin Feng was always the most self-controlled, especially when he remembered she was still carrying their cub.
Finally, he forced himself to stop. He bent his head, lovingly kissing her slightly swollen lips, his breathing still unsteady. "Good girl, we should go back... You’ll really catch a cold."
"I don’t want to..." Bai Wanwan protested weakly, her voice still breathy with the afterglow of their passion.
Xin Feng’s long fingers gently brushed across her slightly swollen belly. The lust in his eyes hadn’t completely faded, but it was being replaced by a deeper concern and affection. He soothed her in a husky voice, "Wait until after you’ve given birth... all right?"
Bai Wanwan’s eyes instantly lit up. She looked up at him like a little kitten begging for a promise. "You’re the one who said it! When the time comes, you’ll do whatever I say?"
"Yes, I’ll do whatever you say."
The corners of Bai Wanwan’s mouth curved high. Heaven knew how much she loved seeing the usually gentle and restrained Xin Feng lose control.
"Then you just wait!"
Xin Feng let out a helpless, doting chuckle. He pressed his forehead to hers and answered softly, "Mm-hm."
His gentle eyes were filled with nothing but indulgence and adoration.
With his promise secured, Bai Wanwan was finally satisfied. She stopped her antics and obediently let him help her dry off and get dressed.
Once they were both properly dressed, Xin Feng bent down, lifted her securely in his arms, and started for home with long strides.
But when they got home and pushed open the door to the main room, they found the atmosphere was anything but ordinary.
Not only were her other Beast Husbands all present, but even the older litters of cubs were sitting quietly on the beast hide mats, apparently waiting for them.
At the sound of the door opening, every male in the room, big and small, turned their heads in unison to look at them.
The gazes of Zhu Xiu, Chou Rong, and Yan Lie swept over the pair in a subtle, knowing way before they tacitly averted their eyes.
They were all powerful males with keen senses; of course they could detect the lingering, ambiguous aura clinging to the couple, as well as the languid, well-pleasured glow about Bai Wanwan.
Yan Lie even found himself thinking, ’Maybe I should take Wanwan to the riverbank to try that sometime...’
The adult males all knew what was up, but the half-grown cubs were just bewildered, sensing only that the atmosphere was strange.
"*Ahem.* Why is everyone sitting here?"
Bai Wanwan forced herself to remain calm as she climbed out of Xin Feng’s arms, chanting a mantra in her head: ’If I’m not the one who’s embarrassed, then someone else must be!’
Chou Rong was the one who answered, his expression perfectly normal, as if he hadn’t noticed a thing. "We have something to discuss with you now that you’re back."
He had just had his fill two days ago, so unlike Yan Lie, he wasn’t feeling particularly envious at the moment.
Zhu Xiu patted the empty space beside him, speaking concisely. "Come and sit."
Seeing the serious formation, Bai Wanwan figured something important must be going on. She put aside her other thoughts and went to sit between Zhu Xiu and Chou Rong.
Her gaze swept over the eldest of the cubs, who were already starting to look like handsome young lads. She couldn’t help but lower her voice to ask Chou Rong beside her, "What’s wrong? Did the cubs get into some kind of trouble?"
