Chapter 588 - 585: Even the Evening Breeze is Tender
Chapter 588: Chapter 585: Even the Evening Breeze is Tender
The afterglow of the setting sun gilded the towering city walls with a warm, golden edge.
Bai Wanwan’s hand was held by Chou Rong as they walked up the gradually ascending ramp. She realized they weren’t heading home.
"Where are you taking me?" she couldn’t help but ask, her curiosity piqued.
Chou Rong turned his head. His deep eyes reflected the evening glow, and her figure within it.
"We’re almost there. Come with me." His voice was low and steady, carrying a reassuring strength.
Bai Wanwan asked no more questions, letting his broad, warm hand guide her as they climbed the high city wall step by step.
When the view suddenly opened up, the scene outside the city made her eyes widen slightly.
On the open ground below, hundreds of strong male Beastmen were working with fiery enthusiasm. They hauled massive logs and heavy stones to construct a new wall, its path clearly designed to enclose a large swathe of land outside the original perimeter and bring it under the clan’s protection.
"Hm? What’s this...?" Bai Wanwan looked at Chou Rong in confusion.
Chou Rong opened his arms and naturally pulled her into his embrace. His solid chest pressed against her back as he pointed toward the bustling scene below.
"This area is the newly expanded territory of our clan." His voice held a hint of barely concealed ambition. "You were right. We should be more proactive in taking in wandering Beastmen to make the clan stronger, so we can face whatever storms may come."
Bai Wanwan tilted her head back to look at him. From this angle, she could perfectly see his handsome, well-defined jawline and his eyes, which gazed into the distance, full of wisdom and decisiveness.
"What is it?" Sensing her gaze, Chou Rong lowered his head. A gentle smile played on his lips, and his arm around her didn’t loosen.
A warm current of admiration surged through Bai Wanwan’s heart. She said sincerely, "I think you’re a wise Clan Leader. The Tiger Clan is lucky to have you."
She relied on the convenience of her system, but Chou Rong relied on his own foresight and courage.
Perhaps it was because her eyes were too bright or her words too sincere, but Chou Rong, who had been focused on business with a clear mind, suddenly found his gaze darkening as a different kind of emotion stirred within him.
He gave in to the most direct desire in his heart, lowering his head and accurately capturing her soft lips.
It was a deep, lingering kiss, tinged with longing and a hint of dominance, that nearly stole all of Bai Wanwan’s breath.
She subconsciously tried to push him away several times before Chou Rong finally loosened his hold slightly, giving her space to breathe. But his forehead remained pressed against hers as he whispered, his own breath a little unsteady, "Don’t go out by yourself anymore. Even if you have to go out, you must go with me."
Sensing the frustration and longing in his tone, and recalling the cool, self-possessed, and even somewhat distant Chou Rong she first met, Bai Wanwan couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "What’s this? Is the Clan Leader unable to part with me?"
Chou Rong raised a hand, the pad of his thumb gently caressing her lips, which were slightly swollen from the kiss. His gaze was scorching. "You are my Wife. Is it wrong for me to not want to be apart from you?"
"Not at all!" Bai Wanwan’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled, a hint of slyness and initiative in her expression. "Then I’ll make it up to you right now."
With that, she proactively raised her arms to wrap around Chou Rong’s neck, stood on her tiptoes, and, mimicking what he had just done, boldly kissed him back.
Chou Rong’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He seemed to be enjoying her initiative. His body tensed slightly, but he made no further moves, letting her enthusiastically take the lead as his breathing grew noticeably heavier.
But after a moment, he was clearly not satisfied. A sense of urgency entered his tone.
"That’s it?"
Under the warm light of the setting sun, Bai Wanwan’s eyes were soft with affection, her cheeks flushed a charming rosy pink. She shot him a playful glare. "We’re outside. You should know when to stop."
Chou Rong chuckled lowly, catching the hand she was trying to poke his chest with. His palm was searing hot.
"It’s getting dark," he said, glancing around the empty, deserted wall that was gradually being enveloped by twilight. His words were suggestive. "No other Beastmen will come up here."
Before the words had even left his mouth, he grasped her slender wrist and, leaving no room for refusal, leaned down again, continuing their interrupted kiss with even greater depth and passion.
The evening breeze swept past, carrying the faint, low growls of the laboring Beastmen in the distance, but it couldn’t disperse the scorching heat that was gradually rising in this corner of the city wall.
Atop the city wall, even the evening wind seemed to turn tender.
His rough, calloused palm, burning with heat, lingered and caressed her delicate waist. Every inch of her skin trembled faintly under his touch, as if tiny sparks were being ignited.
Their breaths mingled, and an invisible tension filled the air, pulling them down into a state of surrender.
Her consciousness grew hazy, as if she were floating in a warm current, aware only of his forceful yet gentle touches and the searing kisses he branded on her neck and collarbone.
The air around them seemed to vanish, leaving only the sound of their heartbeats and the heat of their bodies.
Lost in a daze of passion, everything was spiraling into a deeper vortex...
However, just at the critical moment, the distinct sound of a patrol team’s orderly footsteps and their faint chatter drifted up from below the wall, like a sudden douse of cold water.
Bai Wanwan was instantly jolted from her trance. Her lips, which had been pressed against his shoulder, parted, and she subconsciously gave his shoulder a light bite. Her voice was hoarse, steeped in desire. "Ngh... didn’t you say... no one would come?"
Chou Rong tried to press closer, but she was completely uncooperative.
He let out an annoyed, low growl in their direction, a warning to the Beastmen attempting to come up.
A vein throbbed on his temple as he fought to suppress the desire that was about to break its dam.
"Should I make them leave?"
"No, let’s talk about it when we get back."
He gave her a long, deep look. Beastmen were not known for restraining their desires.
But he knew his female was different. So he could only take a deep breath and forcibly restrain himself.
He quickly grabbed her scattered dress and carefully wrapped it around her fair, lustrous body.
Bai Wanwan heard the footsteps halt, and she raised her hands to tidy her clothes.
The Beastmen from the patrol team waited for a while. Not daring to come any further up, they stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
A respectful voice called out, "Clan Leader, the elders have requested your presence to discuss an urgent matter."
Chou Rong closed his eyes. When he opened them again, the storm within them had been mostly suppressed, but his voice was even deeper and hoarser than usual. "Alright. You all head down first. I’ll be there shortly."
The patrol leader’s position was slightly elevated, and before leaving, he couldn’t resist a quick glance.
Under the cool starlight, their Clan Leader—usually so imposing and formidable that no one dared to look him in the eye—was now holding the female’s waist tightly with one arm, half-shielding her in his embrace.
His head was lowered, and his eyes held a rare, doting smile as he whispered something to the female in his arms. His posture was clearly one of patient, gentle coaxing.
