Chapter 606: Chapter 603: Shura Field

Yin Mei listened quietly and attentively. The deep furrow of her brow gradually smoothed out, and the heaviness that had weighed on her heart seemed to truly lighten with those words.

The confusion in her eyes dissipated like mist in the wind, and things began to come into focus.

After a long moment, she let out a deep, thorough sigh of relief. She squeezed Bai Wanwan’s hand, a smile of relief—tinged with shyness yet full of resolve—spreading across her face. "Wanwan, thank you. I feel so much better after hearing you say that. I think... I know what I have to do now."

The struggle in her eyes was gone, replaced by the courage and calm that came with a new decision.

She stood up abruptly, ready to go back and talk with Yin Yuan.

She patted Wanwan’s hand. "Wanwan, I’ve taken up enough of your time. You should get back. Your Beast Husbands must be getting anxious."

In the short time they’d been talking, one of her Beast Husbands had already peeked out the door two or three times.

She was, of course, happy for Wanwan, but at the same time, she couldn’t help but feel nervous for her own younger brother.

Bai Wanwan smiled and nodded. "It was no trouble, Sister Yin Mei. If you ever need anything in the future, you can always come to me."

"Alright, Wanwan. I’ll take you up on that. I’m heading off now." A ray of sunshine seemed to brighten her smile.

Bai Wanwan watched her until she was a distant figure, then turned and pushed the door open to go inside.

Yan Lie was standing right at the door. When he saw her enter, he smiled and reached for her hand.

His fingers traced a mischievous line across her palm.

She glanced up, and Yan Lie immediately flashed a brilliant, seductive grin.

But a slight movement nearby quickly drew Bai Wanwan’s attention away.

The Beast Husbands had already cleared the dining table, leaving it spotless, and were now fixing their gazes on her.

Their gazes all seemed to hold a certain veiled anticipation.

In the flickering candlelight, Hua Han’s naturally seductive eyes shimmered, seeming to brim with intoxicating honey and a silent invitation. The curve of his lips held a sinfully tempting ambiguity, a clear expression of both his grievance at being "neglected" and his intense longing.

Even Jin Yi, sitting not far off with the innate pride characteristic of the Golden Lion Clan, showed little emotion on his handsome face. Yet his molten-gold eyes were fixed on her, staring so unwaveringly that his gaze felt hot enough to leave a brand on her skin.

How could she not understand the silent, yet deafening, plea in her Beast Husbands’ eyes?

Chou Rong had been away for a long time, and since his return, he had occupied nearly all her nights. She had, admittedly, been neglecting her other Beast Husbands.

Faced with their direct yet restrained pleas, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt and the burden of a difficult choice.

At times like this, she genuinely wished she could clone herself, so that none of the Beast Husbands she loved—and who loved her—would ever feel neglected.

She hesitated, wondering how to broach the subject of spending the night with Jin Yi to Chou Rong.

However, before she could figure out what to say, a deep voice broke the silence.

It was Zhu Xiu.

He emerged from the direction of the kitchen, his tall frame ramrod straight. His calm, heavy gaze swept over the other Beast Husbands before finally settling on Chou Rong. His voice carried clearly to everyone. "Jin Yi has returned. Starting tonight, we will resume accompanying Wanwan according to the rotation we previously agreed upon."

His words were like a stone tossed into a calm lake, instantly sending out ripples.

The warmth in Chou Rong’s expression instantly vanished. He turned slowly, his deep eyes locking with Zhu Xiu’s sharp, hawk-like gaze.

The two males—both equally powerful, both Red Rank, both intensely possessive of their shared female—locked gazes, and you could almost hear the invisible sparks crackle in the air between them.

Chou Rong’s voice was low, tinged with clear displeasure. "I don’t think that’s a fair decision. I’ve spent very little time with Wanwan over the past six months, after all."

He clearly had no intention of giving up his claim.

Zhu Xiu’s jaw tightened. His tone remained level, but it held an icy edge. "Fair? Jin Yi has also been away for a very long time. Are you suggesting he should yield, then?"

The atmosphere instantly grew taut, the air thick with an invisible pressure. Hua Han and Yan Lie unconsciously schooled their expressions, while Yin Ze sat up a little straighter, his eyes flicking between Zhu Xiu and Chou Rong.

Caught in the middle, Bai Wanwan knew it would be inappropriate to side with either of them.

’The trouble with having too many Beast Husbands...’

Xin Feng, sitting beside her, squeezed her hand, signaling her not to worry.

As Chou Rong and Zhu Xiu faced off, Xin Feng’s gentle voice cut in. "Why don’t we vote on it? A Beast Husband who has been away gets priority to be with Wanwan upon his return, but after that, we go back to the established rotation. Does everyone agree?"

Hua Han and Yan Lie were the first to raise their hands.

Yin Ze slowly raised his hand as well.

Chou Rong and Zhu Xiu continued to stare each other down, the atmosphere thick with tension.

Just at that tense moment, the sound of hurried footsteps approached. A Beastman on guard duty appeared at the door, his tone respectful but unable to conceal its urgency. "Clan Leader, the patrol brought back some Beastmen! We need you to identify them and decide what to do!"

This sudden interruption was like a needle popping the tense bubble inside the room.

Chou Rong’s brow was tightly furrowed. He shot a deep look at Zhu Xiu, then another, more complicated one at Bai Wanwan.

Bai Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and took the initiative, linking her arm with his. "Be careful. If they’re mind-controlled Beastmen, send someone to come get me."

Seeing her concern, the hard lines of Chou Rong’s expression softened. "Alright. I’m off. You get some rest."

"Okay."

Bai Wanwan watched him and several other Beastmen leave, their figures quickly swallowed by the night.

With Chou Rong gone, the suffocating sense of confrontation in the room instantly vanished. In its place, however, were the expectant gazes of the other Beast Husbands.

’Now’s my chance to escape!’ Bai Wanwan thought.

She quickly cleared her throat and grabbed the most foolproof excuse she could think of. "I’m going to check on how the children are sleeping!"

With that, she hurried upstairs and slipped into the cubs’ room.

In the room, the various litters of young cubs were already fast asleep, scattered about in adorable disarray.

Some lay on their backs, all four paws in the air, revealing soft little bellies that rose and fell with each gentle breath. Others smacked their lips, as if savoring a delectable feast in their dreams. Still others were curled into tight little balls of fur, emitting tiny snores.

The incredibly soothing sight instantly calmed the turmoil in Bai Wanwan’s heart. It was so adorable her heart melted. She couldn’t help but tiptoe over, gently stroking the soft fur or warm little cheeks of each child, taking in their peacefully trusting faces as they slept.

Just as she was basking in maternal bliss and moving to check on the mermaid baby in the corner, her back bumped into a warm, solid "wall of flesh."

Startled, she spun around and came face-to-face with a pair of smiling golden eyes.
