Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 618 - 615: This Is His Choice
Chapter 618: Chapter 615: This Is His Choice
A tide of jumbled accusations, tearful pleas, and curses washed over him...
Fu Jinsen stopped in his tracks, his icy gaze slowly sweeping across the familiar and unfamiliar faces before him like a scalpel.
He felt not even a flicker of emotion in the face of their clamor.
His thin lips parted. His voice wasn’t loud, yet it clearly cut through all the noise. "Which one of you is innocent?"
He looked at his uncle. "When you were embezzling company funds and leaking corporate secrets, did you give a single thought to your ancestors?"
His gaze shifted to his only aunt. "When your husband colluded with outsiders, trying to short the Fu Family’s stock, did you step in to stop him?"
He scanned the crowd, and everyone his gaze touched involuntarily shrank back.
"This is all your own doing! You reap what you sow!"
His words were like a final judgment, leaving no room for appeal.
"You!" someone sputtered, incensed and wanting to say more.
The assistant at his side had already signaled the security guards on standby. They moved forward swiftly and, with practiced skill, separated the agitated Fu Family members to clear a path.
Fu Jinsen didn’t spare them another glance, as if they were nothing more than dust on the roadside.
He raised a hand, adjusting the collar and cuffs of his suit, which had been rumpled in the scuffle. His movements remained unhurried, carrying an elegance and indifference etched into his very bones.
Then, without a hint of hesitation, he strode through the human wall formed by the security guards and walked toward the black sedan waiting outside the hall.
Sunlight streamed through the massive glass curtain wall, shining on him, yet it seemed unable to bring a single trace of warmth.
His back, tall and solitary, moved step by step away from this world of schemes and coldness.
’He had to go see Wanwan.’
It was his one, and final, thought.
「The black sedan slid silently into an unremarkable gray building in the suburbs.」
The place was heavily guarded and isolated from the outside world—the location of the secret research team.
Fu Jinsen got out of the car, his assistant following silently behind.
When he walked into the core laboratory, all the project team members were already in their positions. The atmosphere was heavy and solemn.
Complex instruments emitted a low hum. They surrounded a futuristic platform in the center of the room, one constructed from special metals and wires. On the platform rested a recliner resembling an operating table.
The team leader, a professor with graying temples and thick glasses, immediately came forward.
Obvious worry and a final attempt at dissuasion were written on his face.
"President Fu," the professor’s voice was hoarse. "We just ran another energy calibration. The stone’s energy decay rate has exceeded our projections; it’s extremely unstable right now. If we force activation, there’s a very real chance you won’t make it back. What’s more... the energy could be depleted mid-transfer. Your consciousness could even be torn to shreds in the spatio-temporal turbulence, never to return."
Fu Jinsen’s gaze calmly swept over the instruments, which flickered with a faint light, before finally landing on the solitary recliner.
His brow didn’t so much as twitch, as if the terrifying risks the professor described were no more than a mundane weather forecast for the next morning.
"Not coming back is a choice I’ve made."
His voice was perfectly calm, carrying an unquestionable authority. "Your job isn’t to assess the risk. It is to follow my instructions and execute the procedure."
He paused, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Begin."
Giving no one another chance to dissuade him, he strode to the platform, deftly shrugged off his exquisitely tailored suit jacket, and handed it to his waiting assistant.
Underneath was a simple white shirt that accentuated his tall frame, yet it also lent him an air of resolve, like that of a martyr.
He lay down on the cold metal recliner with practiced ease, adjusting himself into a relatively comfortable position and folding his hands naturally across his stomach.
He closed his eyes. His expression was peaceful, even faintly tinged with the relief of impending release. There was no fear of the unknown dangers, no lingering attachment to the prosperous world he was leaving behind.
Watching him, the team leader let out a heavy sigh and shook his head.
’He truly couldn’t understand. A man like Fu Jinsen, who presided over a vast commercial empire from the very pinnacle of wealth and power—what kind of woman couldn’t he have?’
’Why, for a figure so faint as to be almost illusory, would he make such a reckless, almost suicidal choice?’
’This was completely beyond the scope of his rational, scientific understanding.’
But he was merely the project’s executor. Having accepted an astronomical sum in funding, he had to obey the investor’s decision, no matter how utterly insane it seemed to him.
He turned to face his team, his voice regaining its scientific precision, yet tinged with an imperceptible weight. "Everyone, run a final check on all systems! Set the energy output stabilizer to maximum tolerance! Lock coordinate parameters to the last calibrated data!"
The only sounds in the lab were the faint hum of instruments and the rapid tapping of researchers on keyboards.
The atmosphere was so tense it felt solid.
A few minutes later, all preparations were complete.
The team leader walked to the main control console, looked again at Fu Jinsen on the recliner, and sought a final confirmation. "President Fu, everything is ready. We can begin."
On the recliner, Fu Jinsen’s eyelashes trembled slightly—it was impossible to tell if he had heard or if it was just an unconscious reaction.
He didn’t open his eyes. A single, extremely soft, yet exceptionally clear syllable simply escaped his throat:
"Mm."
Having received the final confirmation, the leader took a deep breath and, as if summoning all his strength, pressed the conspicuous red button that signified both activation and the unknown.
"VMMMM!!!"
A low rumble, as if from another dimension, suddenly erupted, and the lights throughout the lab flickered for an instant.
Immediately, the complex instruments surrounding the recliner erupted in a blinding white light!
On the tangled wires and metal arms, a ghostly blue energy, like electrical arcs, began to flow wildly. Visible to the naked eye, it all surged toward the center of the platform, toward the black stone positioned above Fu Jinsen’s head—a stone now dull, lightless, and covered in cracks.
Under the immense energy surge, the black stone violently erupted with a final, blinding flash. A tiny, extremely unstable "black hole" with constantly twisting and tearing edges abruptly appeared above Fu Jinsen, emanating a terrifying pull!
Lying at the center of the energy storm, Fu Jinsen’s body suddenly went rigid. A look of utter agony flashed across his features, but he clenched his jaw and made no sound.
His consciousness rapidly blurred under the wash of immense energy, his senses stripped away. The last thing he saw was a heart-stopping expanse of white light and, deep within it, the smiling face that haunted his dreams and was etched into his very soul...
