Chapter 147: A waste of time.

She had seen some of those creatures with her own eyes, and the thought of a single man overcoming both the traffickers and their beasts was almost impossible for her to accept, regardless of how grateful she was for his help.

Osborne didn’t bother saying anything else, as he had already explained the situation and saw no reason to waste his breath trying to convince her when she would soon witness the truth for herself.

Sasha only felt more nervous as he continued walking in silence.

They both soon returned to the wooden encampment, following the same path Osborne had taken earlier until the familiar wooden walls appeared between the trees, looking much the same as they had before despite the terrible events that had taken place within them.

’How is this possible...’ Sasha thought as she stood at a loss, her violet eyes widening at the sight of mounds of corpses scattered throughout the encampment, with so many dead bodies piled together that she could hardly believe they had all belonged to the men who had held her captive.

Not only were there corpses, but items and treasures had also been gathered in different places, with weapons, pieces of armour, and various other belongings scattered around the wooden structures, making the entire place look as though it had been thoroughly ransacked after a fierce battle.

She could hardly recognize the encampment anymore, and the sight left her wondering just how much had happened after Osborne had ordered her to run into the forest, since she had spent the entire time waiting for him with no idea what was happening behind her.

GRRRRRRRR....

A deep, beastly growl suddenly echoed nearby, jolting Sasha out of her thoughts as she turned towards the source of the sound, only to see a large wolf emerge from behind one of the mounds of corpses.

Its body was covered in thick fur, while faint blue markings ran across its coat, and small sparks of electricity flickered around its limbs as its golden eyes fixed on the two figures standing nearby.

"They’re still beasts around!" Sasha exclaimed, hurriedly fleeing to Osborne’s side as she instinctively sought protection from the terrifying creature, her hands gripping the edge of his armour while she tried to put as much distance between herself and the wolf as possible.

"Sir, I think it’s best we leave this place, it’s not safe," she pleaded, looking up at him with obvious worry as she wondered why he would willingly remain in a place filled with dead bodies and demonic beasts when they could simply find somewhere else to spend the night.

Osborne said nothing in response, instead approaching the lightning wolf with steady steps, seemingly unconcerned by its threatening appearance as he reached out and gave it a gentle pat on the head.

The demonic beast, contrary to Sasha’s expectations, immediately leaned into his warm touch, lowering its head slightly as though it welcomed the gesture, while the sparks of electricity flickering around its body gradually weakened under his hand.

Sasha stared at the sight in disbelief, her grip on Osborne’s armour loosening as she tried to understand why a creature that looked capable of tearing a person apart would behave so obediently in his presence, especially when it had seemed ready to attack anyone who came too close.

"He’s one of mine, so you have nothing to fear," Osborne explained calmly, glancing back at Sasha before returning his attention to the wolf, which continued leaning into his hand as though it had grown accustomed to his touch.

"My Lord, you’ve returned," Vanessa suddenly called out as she walked over to them, having heeded his previous command and returned to her human form, with a set of leather armour covering her body as she approached her master without showing any concern about the corpses scattered throughout the encampment.

Trailing behind her were several lightning wolves, each dragging along a corpse as they followed Vanessa towards Osborne, their golden eyes occasionally glancing around the encampment while they waited for their master’s next command.

Her facial features paled at the sight, but recalling how the woman had just addressed Osborne, she managed to resist the urge to run away, although she still kept a close distance from her saviour while watching the lightning wolves drag the corpses across the ground.

’ So they’re the one’s who helped...’ Sasha thought to herself. ’ They must be a party then.’

She could only guess what kind of relationship Osborne shared with these people, but judging from how respectfully the woman had spoken to him, it was clear that their relationship wasn’t simple.

"Where’s Hana?" Osborne asked, shifting his attention away from the lightning wolf he had been patting as he looked towards Vanessa, who had approached him with several wolves following behind her.

"Right here, my Lord," a voice suddenly sounded from behind Sasha, causing her to jolt in fear as she hurriedly turned around, only to find another woman walking towards Osborne with a calm expression on her face.

Hana paid little attention to Sasha as she walked past her, stopping in front of Osborne before lowering her head slightly, ready to report how she had carried out the task entrusted to her.

"I just finished gathering everything of value, my Lord, but I’m afraid these men didn’t really have much," she said apologetically while gesturing towards several small mounds of treasures that had been gathered together, her expression showing that she was somewhat dissatisfied with the results of her search.

"Indeed, to think they had the nerve to waste our lord’s time with these little things as tribute," Vanessa joined in, crossing her hands in front of her chest as she looked at the gathered treasures with a displeased expression, seemingly finding the entire collection too poor to deserve her master’s attention.

’Even Father would’ve detested such a meagre reward,’ she thought to herself, recalling the kind of wealth her former household had possessed and the standards she had grown accustomed to before everything had fallen apart.

’That’s not much?!’ Sasha was taken aback, her violet eyes moving towards the mounds of valuables as she wondered where these women had found the audacity to complain about such a collection, especially when the weapons, coins, and other belongings piled together looked like enough wealth to support an ordinary family for quite some time.
