Chapter 153: A Tale Dipped in Sorrow.

Sasha’s heart trembled, and she couldn’t help feeling moved by the thought that there were still such kind-hearted people left in this world, especially after everything she had experienced since being kidnapped and sold off to those traffickers.

If only she knew Osborne had done all that because of curiosity, one could only imagine the type of reaction she’d have, since the reason behind his actions was far less noble than the image she had begun forming of him.

"Please wait!"

"What is it?" Osborne asked, stopping his steps and turning his head slightly towards her.

"You can’t let me go back there on my own. If I do, they’ll just kidnap me again," Sasha said in a pleading tone, her hands tightening slightly as she struggled to find a way to convince him not to leave her behind.

"I have already done away with them. There’s no one else," Osborne waved his hand dismissively, continuing to walk as he saw no reason to concern himself with the possibility of more traffickers appearing after the ones he had already eliminated.

"No, you don’t understand," Sasha said as she hurriedly ran up to him, unwilling to let him leave before she had managed to explain what she had been trying to say.

’What in the?’ Osborne was surprised when she grabbed a hold of his hand, causing him to stop once more as he looked down at the soft hands wrapped around his gauntlet.

He turned around to see her looking at him with a hint of desperation, her eyes still slightly red from crying while her expression showed just how frightened she was of returning to the place where the people who wanted her dead were waiting.

"They’re not the ones..." Sasha muttered, her voice growing quieter as she struggled to explain something she had been keeping to herself for a long time. "They’re not the ones behind it. They want me gone, and if they know I’m still alive, they won’t stop until I am."

Osborne held her hand before gently pulling it away from his, his movements remaining calm as he looked down at her, trying to understand what she meant by those words.

Sasha’s heart sank for a moment.

"If you want me to understand, you’re going to have to explain in detail." But when he didn’t leave and instead spoke to her, a hint of hope returned to her once more.

"Alright~" Sasha nodded her head. "I’ll tell you everything."

"I’m not exactly who you might think I am..." She took a deep breath and said, trying to gather her thoughts before revealing something she had kept hidden from almost everyone she had encountered. "My full name is Sasha Vonroth. My father is the head of the Vonroth household."

’So she really was a noble...’ Osborne thought. He’d had a feeling for a while now that her kidnapping couldn’t have been simple, due to the lengths her kidnappers had gone to just to make sure she vanished without a trace, especially since the traffickers had gone through the trouble of keeping her alive rather than simply disposing of her like they had intended.

"My mother was a simple maid who happened to catch my father’s eye, and being a maid, she couldn’t resist my father, so night after night, he would come to see her."

"And eventually, my father ended up getting her pregnant."

"He didn’t want to put my mother in danger... so he sent her away to live in secret."

"But unfortunately, my father’s wife got wind of their endeavours and tried to kill my mother~" At this point, Sasha’s tears began to return, as even after all these years, remembering what her mother had gone through still caused her heart to ache.

"My father had to move us from place to place so as to avoid her pursuit, but even then it wasn’t enough..." Sasha clenched her fists tightly, her expression growing bitter as she remembered how her mother had spent most of her life running away from someone who should never have had any reason to hunt them down in the first place.

"Years went by as we lived our lives like that, and I always asked my mother why we couldn’t simply live with my father, but she would always tell me that it wasn’t right."

"After all... the truth still remained that my father had cheated on his wife with my mother to have me, and she couldn’t bear to show her face to the woman who she believed she had ruined her marriage."

"A few years ago, my mother unfortunately died..." Sasha’s breath hitched at this point, and she lowered her head slightly as the memories of those final days came back to her, reminding her of the person who had once been the only family she could truly depend on.

"She left me all alone... But even with my mother gone, my father never forgot to look after me, and he would always write me letters and send me allowances to carry out my daily life. Even while I blamed him for everything my mother had to bear... I couldn’t bring it within myself to truly hate him, because he was the only parent I still had left in this world."

Sasha couldn’t take it anymore, her tears bursting out more than ever as she struggled to finish speaking, with her shoulders trembling while she tried to hold back the emotions that had been building up inside her for years.

But then she felt herself being pulled into a metallic embrace, and before she could properly react, Osborne’s armoured body had already drawn her closer, giving her somewhere to lean as she continued to cry.

Osborne gently patted her on the back, his movements a little stiff, as though he wasn’t particularly used to comforting someone, but he continued anyway, allowing her to calm down without saying anything that might make her feel worse.

His simple gesture helped Sasha control her emotions a bit, and her cries gradually lessened from the kindness of another, especially since she hadn’t expected the same man who had frightened her so badly the previous night to show her such consideration.
