Chapter 156: Stay Put.
Unlike the place where she had been held captive, the inn was fairly clean, with wooden floors that had been properly maintained and several rooms arranged along the upper corridor.
There were also a few guests moving around, but none of them seemed particularly interested in the pair, allowing Osborne to reach their destination without any unnecessary attention.
After unlocking the door, he stepped inside and allowed Sasha to enter before closing it behind them.
"Take a seat."
Sasha nodded and looked around the room, finding a reasonably sized bed, a small table, and a few other pieces of furniture arranged neatly within the space.
It wasn’t particularly luxurious, but it was certainly more comfortable than the places she had been forced to sleep in recently, and the sight of a proper bed alone made her feel a little relieved.
Meanwhile, Osborne remained standing near the entrance, seemingly having no intention of settling down.
"I need you to wait for me here until I return, so don’t leave this room under any circumstances."
Sasha turned towards him.
"Alright..."
"If you need anything, simply ring the bell in the room. I’ve already instructed the establishment to bring you whatever it is you need."
Osborne pointed towards the small bell resting on the table, making sure she understood what he was referring to before continuing.
"Whether it’s food, water, or anything else, you only need to ring it and someone will come to attend to you."
"Alright." Sasha nodded her head in understanding.
She was still getting used to being treated this way, especially after spending so much time in captivity, where even the smallest requests had been met with hostility or outright punishment.
However, there was something else she wanted to ask, and after hesitating for a moment, she finally gathered enough courage to speak.
"But how long will you be gone?"
Her voice was rather soft, and although she tried not to make it obvious, the thought of being separated from him even for a short while made her feel a little anxious.
After everything that had happened, she had grown accustomed to having him nearby, and knowing that he was the one responsible for keeping her safe had given her a sense of security she hadn’t experienced in quite some time.
Of course, she understood that he couldn’t remain by her side every moment of the day, especially when there were things he needed to take care of, but that didn’t stop her from feeling uneasy at the thought of being left alone.
Osborne noticed her expression but didn’t particularly comment on it.
He had decided to have her wait here because bringing her back to her old home would be too risky, especially when there was no guarantee that the people responsible for her disappearance hadn’t already begun investigating what happened to the traffickers.
If word of her being alive managed to get back to her stepmother, then it would only make things more difficult for him, as he would be forced to deal with the consequences before he had even properly established his position within the Vonroth household.
There was also the possibility that someone might recognise Sasha and report her whereabouts, which was another reason he preferred to keep her away from familiar places for the time being.
"I won’t take long. I just need to take care of a few things before we can leave." Osborne said.
Sasha nodded, although she still seemed a little reluctant to let him go.
"Will your friends be coming with us?" She asked, remembering the two women and the group of wolves who had accompanied him during their journey.
"Is there a problem with that?"
"No, not at all!" Sasha quickly shook her head, worried that he might misunderstand her question. "I was just wondering if they would be staying here too."
"They’ll be close by if we ever need something." Was all Osborne said.
Sasha looked at him for a moment before eventually nodding her head, deciding not to ask anything further.
Although she was still curious about the people who served him, she had already realised that Osborne wasn’t particularly fond of explaining every little thing about himself, and considering how much he had helped her, she didn’t want to make him uncomfortable by asking unnecessary questions.
After a few short words, Osborne turned towards the door and opened it.
"Remember what I said: don’t leave this room."
"I won’t." She said firmly, though looking rather adorable.
"Good." With that, he stepped outside and closed the door behind him, leaving Sasha alone in the room.
She stared at the closed door for a few moments before slowly making her way towards the bed, where she sat down and let out a quiet breath.
’He really does have a lot of things to take care of...’
Although she didn’t know what he intended to do next, she had already decided that she would do her best not to become a burden to him, especially after he had gone as far as offering to help her reclaim her place within the Vonroth household.
Meanwhile, Osborne descended the stairs and made his way towards the reception area.
The receptionist happened to be arranging a few things behind the counter when she noticed him approaching, and the moment he reached the entrance, she offered him a polite smile.
"Have a safe journey, sir."
Osborne simply nodded before stepping out of the establishment.
The moment he left the inn, he turned towards the familiar streets and began making his way towards the edge of town, in search of the Nicholas family residence.
He had no intention of leaving the town without properly settling a few matters, especially when the family had helped him during his stay and provided him with a place to rest when he had first arrived.
Besides, there was something he wanted to take care of before leaving, and it would be rather discourteous to disappear without saying anything after receiving their hospitality.
