Chapter 94: Let’s Get This Party Started.

She picked up the papers one after another and carefully examined them.

’Well, at least he’s not looking to die...’

The receptionist’s expression slowly became complicated.

’But he’s actually taking these?’

She knew she wanted him to be safe, but wasn’t this too safe for someone of his calibre?

Nevertheless, it wasn’t dangerous.

Her shoulders relaxed.

She hadn’t realized how tense she had been until that moment.

’Thank goodness.’

At least he wasn’t one of those reckless adventurers who believed wearing armor automatically made them invincible.

She began checking each mission carefully.

"These three missions are all available."

She placed the notices beside one another.

"The goblin quest has a reward of ten silver, the herb gathering request offers five silver, while the missing person request has a reward of ten bronze."

She paused briefly.

"The missing person quest has the lowest reward because the guild hasn’t confirmed whether the person is still alive, so we’re mainly asking adventurers to search the area and report anything they find."

Osborne nodded. ’So that’s why...’ He thought to himself.

The receptionist looked at him.

"Are you certain you want to take all three at once?"

Osborne nodded again.

She stared at him for a moment before sighing.

"I suppose there isn’t any reason to stop you."

She reached beneath the counter and pulled out a large stamp.

After dipping it into the ink, she pressed it firmly against each mission paper.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

The sound echoed across the counter.

The receptionist returned the papers to Osborne.

"Once you’ve accepted a quest, it will be temporarily removed from the mission board until you return."

She pointed toward the stamped papers.

"If you complete the missions, you’ll receive the listed rewards after the guild confirms that everything has been properly handled."

Osborne looked down at the papers.

"And if I fail?"

The receptionist hesitated for a moment before saying,

"You’ll have one week to complete them."

"If someone can’t complete a mission, it’s best they simply give up."

"But I’m sure something like this won’t take you much time at all." She said.

Osborne nodded.

She continued explaining.

"If you haven’t returned by then, the missions will be placed back onto the board and another adventurer will be allowed to accept them."

Osborne quietly listened.

That was reasonable enough.

A week gave him plenty of time.

He folded the papers and placed them inside a small pouch attached to his armor.

The receptionist watched him.

"Please be careful."

Osborne looked at her.

She seemed slightly nervous again, but this time she forced herself to continue.

"The forest around here isn’t completely safe, especially for someone who isn’t familiar with the area."

She hesitated before adding,

"Even though these are beginner missions, unexpected things can still happen."

Osborne nodded.

"I understand."

The receptionist blinked.

Once again, she hadn’t expected him to answer.

"Good." She smiled faintly.

"Then I wish you luck with your missions, Sir Dokebai."

Osborne nodded once more before turning away.

As he walked toward the guild’s entrance, several adventurers once again glanced toward him.

One of the men who had been standing near the mission board whispered to his companion.

"He really took all three."

"Maybe he’s trying to finish them quickly."

"Or maybe he’s just looking for easy money." Another adventurer laughed.

"Either way, those quests aren’t worth much." Another feigned laughing to tears.

Osborne ignored them.

He pushed open the guild doors and stepped outside.

The sunlight immediately hit his armor.

He stood there for a moment, looking toward the road ahead.

---

Osborne stopped in front of a small shop located along one of the less crowded streets of the town, his eyes moving across the wooden sign hanging above the entrance before he finally stepped inside.

The shop wasn’t particularly large, and there were no expensive decorations that would make it stand out from the other stores nearby, but the shelves lining the walls were filled with various objects that Osborne could immediately recognize as parts taken from monsters.

There were fangs, claws, pieces of hide, horns, bones, and several other things whose uses he couldn’t immediately figure out, although judging from the smell filling the room, most of them had probably been taken from monsters not too long ago.

"Welcome, what can I do for you?"

A woman in her late thirties stepped out from behind a wooden counter, wiping her hands against a piece of cloth as she looked toward the armored figure standing inside her shop.

She wasn’t particularly tall, but there was a rather direct look in her eyes that made it clear she wasn’t someone who enjoyed wasting time.

Osborne didn’t bother with any unnecessary greetings either.

"I need goblin parts." He said.

The woman’s brows rose slightly.

"Goblin parts?" She was a bit confused. What use could those things have?

Osborne nodded.

She looked at him for a moment before glancing toward his sword and armor.

"What would you possibly need those useless things for?" She asked.

He remained silent, choosing not to answer.

The woman waited for an answer.

When none came, the corner of her mouth twitched slightly.

"Are you always this talkative?"

Osborne continued staring at her without saying anything.

The woman’s expression became slightly annoyed.

She had dealt with plenty of strange adventurers over the years, but this was a first for her.

"Fine, whatever." She grumbled.

She then turned around and walked toward one of the shelves.

"Wait here." She said.

Osborne watched her disappear behind several wooden shelves before she returned a short while later with a small sack in her hands.

She placed it on the counter and opened it.

Inside were several severed goblin ears.

"They’re one bronze each."

Osborne looked down at the ears.

’I was planning on throwing the filthy things out, but since you’re buying, good for me.’ The woman was on the brink of considering giving them to him for free, but after his actions just now, she discarded that notion.

He didn’t question why they were being sold individually.

Instead, he reached into his pouch, placed several bronze coins onto the counter, and picked up the ears.

The woman stared at him.

"You didn’t even ask how many I had?" Purchasing so many, just what could he need them for?

Osborne turned toward the entrance.

The woman watched him leave without another word, her expression becoming increasingly strange.

"What a strange fellow."

She shook her head before returning to her work.

Outside, Osborne adjusted the pouch containing the goblin ears before making his way toward one of the nearby carriage stops.

He didn’t intend to walk all the way to the forest from the center of town, especially since he had already spent a considerable amount of time walking around earlier.

After waiting for a short while, he eventually found an old carriage heading toward the outskirts.

Osborne climbed into the back without saying much.

The driver glanced at him briefly, but seeing the armor and sword, he didn’t bother asking questions.

The carriage continued along the road, slowly leaving the busier part of town behind.

Osborne remained quiet throughout the journey, occasionally looking through the gaps in the carriage whenever something caught his attention.

The further they went, the fewer people he saw.

Eventually, the buildings began disappearing completely, replaced by large stretches of grassland and scattered trees.

The driver eventually pulled the carriage to a stop.

"We’re here." He said.

Osborne stepped down from the carriage and handed the driver the required fare.

The man accepted the coins before giving Osborne a quick glance.

"Happy hunting..." The man probably figured out that he must be an adventurer.

Osborne simply nodded.

The carriage soon continued down the road, leaving him standing alone near the outskirts.

Osborne watched it disappear into the distance before turning toward the forest.

His expression remained calm beneath his helmet.

’Let’s get started.’ He said.

He entered the forest without hesitation.

Osborne walked for several minutes before stopping.

He reached into his pouch and pulled out one of the goblin ears.

The severed ear looked rather unpleasant, but he had no reason to care about its appearance.

What mattered was what was inside it.

Osborne held the ear firmly between his fingers before using his sword to carefully cut into the flesh.

Fresh blood slowly began leaking from the wound.

He brought it closer to his helmet and took a slow breath.

The moment the scent entered his nose, Osborne’s pupils suddenly constricted.

’There.’ The smell was weak, but it was unmistakable.

The goblin blood had allowed him to identify the scent of a real goblin.

Osborne closed his eyes for a moment, focusing entirely on the scent.

His enhanced sense of smell had already proven useful several times since his demonification, and although he still wasn’t completely comfortable with relying on it, there was no denying how useful it could be.

Eventually, after focusing for so long, he found something.

Osborne began moving deeper into the forest.

’Since I’m not familiar with this place, following the directions given by the guild wouldn’t be enough.’
