Devouring Soul Emperor

Chapter 603 - 603: The Crazed Guy

  • Next Chapter

Among all the participants, the disciples of the Purple Cloud Sect and the Tianya Sect were the exceptions.

Disciples from these two sects would actively gather whenever they ran into their own, but if they sensed the aura of someone from the Saint Extreme Sect, they would immediately rush over.

If they found it wasn't Chu Qingyun, they would give up and immediately search elsewhere.

But the moment they encountered Chu Qingyun, they would attack without hesitation. Killing him meant instantly becoming a Core Disciple of the Inner Sect, a temptation that no one could resist.

However, without exception, they all gravely underestimated Chu Qingyun's strength.

Every disciple from the Tianya Sect and the Purple Cloud Sect who attacked Chu Qingyun died by his hand. Not a single one lasted past the first move.

In a single morning, Chu Qingyun had already been attacked three times, killing six level-nine Martial Spirits from those two sects.

Around noon, just after Chu Qingyun had killed a withered wood monster and devoured its Primordial Power, he sensed someone else appear nearby through the mark on his body.

However, it was the aura of someone from the Stone Spirit Sect, so Chu Qingyun paid it no mind.

Soon, however, he discovered that the aura was constantly approaching him. It wasn't long before he could sense the presence of a level-nine Martial Spirit even without relying on the mark.

Within a few breaths, a level-nine Martial Spirit burst from the woods and blocked Chu Qingyun's path.

The man sized Chu Qingyun up, and an expression of extreme hatred and paranoia slowly filled his eyes.

"You... are you Chu Qingyun of the Saint Extreme Sect?"

The man asked through gritted teeth, the muscles in his neck straining as he spoke.

The man's behavior was strange, so Chu Qingyun grew more vigilant. "I am Chu Qingyun. Do you need something?"

Upon confirmation, the man's face instantly filled with resolute killing intent.

"Chu Qingyun, die!"

The man from the Stone Spirit Sect immediately lunged at Chu Qingyun, the full power of his level-nine Martial Spirit erupting without any hint of holding back to probe for weakness.

Chu Qingyun frowned. 'How strange.'

He had rarely encountered anyone from the Stone Spirit Sect, let alone fought them, and he had absolutely no impression of this particular man.

Yet this man bore such intense killing intent and hatred toward him.

An ordinary level-nine Martial Spirit posed no threat whatsoever to Chu Qingyun.

Chu Qingyun shifted his body, taking a small step to the side to evade the attack. He frowned and asked, "Why are you attacking me? I don't think I've ever seen you before."

Chu Qingyun didn't want to kill needlessly.

After all, this man wasn't from the Tianya Sect or the Purple Cloud Sect.

"Die! Chu Qingyun must die!"

But the man completely ignored him, attacking Chu Qingyun with crazed abandon. Primordial Power spewed from his body, and he even summoned his Martial Soul, reducing hundreds of meters of the surrounding forest to a wreck.

Chu Qingyun repeatedly tried to question him, but the man paid no attention, only continuing his frenzied attacks.

This was beginning to infuriate Chu Qingyun.

At that moment, he could clearly sense through the mark on his body that there were several other disciples from various sects nearby. They had all stopped, neither revealing themselves nor leaving.

Clearly, the battle here had caught their attention.

Although the goal for everyone who entered the Withered Wood Forest was to be among the first three hundred to reach its central region.

However, if there was an opportunity for an easy gain along the way, no one would want to miss it.

For instance, if two level-nine Martial Spirits were locked in a fierce battle, anyone passing by would inevitably be tempted to swoop in and reap the rewards after they exhausted each other.

"I'm warning you one last time," Chu Qingyun said in a cold voice. "If you don't stop, don't blame me for being ruthless!"

"Die!"

The man from the Stone Spirit Sect, however, paid him no mind. With another explosive shout, he threw a punch toward Chu Qingyun, shattering a tree dozens of meters tall behind him.

'Dammit!'

After dodging the attack again, Chu Qingyun suddenly struck out like lightning. He twisted the man's arms, breaking them, then kicked and broke one of his legs, knocking him to the ground.

This guy's relentless attacks had finally worn out Chu Qingyun's patience.

"Who are you? And why are you attacking me?" Chu Qingyun asked again after throwing the man to the ground.

"Die... Die..."

Unexpectedly, the man still wore a crazed expression. Even with his arms and a leg broken, he writhed on the ground, trying to crawl toward Chu Qingyun, even opening his mouth to bite him.

"If you won't talk, then you can die!"

A trace of Evil Qi flashed in Chu Qingyun's eyes. He struck in an instant, killing the man with a single palm strike.

This man had clearly come to kill him. Chu Qingyun had already given him many chances, but he hadn't cherished them. Now, he could blame no one but himself.

After killing the man, the doubt in Chu Qingyun's heart grew even heavier.

From their earlier exchange, it was obvious the man was no match for him; forget another level-nine Martial Spirit, even a common person could have easily seen it.

But even so, the man had continued to attack Chu Qingyun with crazed abandon, showing not a hint of fear or any intention of retreating.

There was only one explanation for this kind of behavior: his hatred for Chu Qingyun had surpassed his fear, even overriding his sanity.

But that, too, was impossible.

Because he, Chu Qingyun, had never even met this person before.

'What a strange fellow...'

Chu Qingyun shook his head and, with a wave of his hand, devoured the man's Primordial Power. Because there were others nearby, he didn't use his Devouring Power to consume the body.

Once he had completely devoured the Primordial Power, Chu Qingyun took the man's Storage Ring and put it away.

As he was taking the Storage Ring, his gaze swept over and he suddenly noticed a small box tucked inside the man's robes.

The box was square, only about the size of his palm, with a tightly closed seam down the middle. It clearly held something inside.

Moreover, the box bore the distinct traces of Primordial Power, indicating that a seal had been placed upon it.

'What is this? Why carry it on his person instead of putting it in the Storage Ring?'

Puzzled, Chu Qingyun mobilized a stream of Primordial Power and sent it into the seal on the box.

The seal's strength wasn't high. Once the stream of Primordial Power broke in, it easily disrupted the seal's original energy flow. The Primordial Power on the seal flickered and quickly dissipated.

Once the seal vanished, the box immediately popped open.

An astonishingly powerful wave of energy abruptly rushed out of the box.

At that moment, from the Elders and Inner Sect Disciples waiting in the central region to nearly every other person in the Withered Wood Forest, everyone suddenly raised their heads and looked in Chu Qingyun's direction.
