Devouring Soul Emperor

Chapter 699 - 699: A Turtle in a Jar

The Black Wing Martial Soul was incredibly fast.

Before long, Chu Qingyun arrived at the final Array Platform.

This Array Platform was located in a man-made valley. The dense Heaven and Earth Primordial Power in the area had attracted many Blood Corpses.

They were all Blood Corpses of the Martial King Realm.

Unfortunately, they were all Human King Realm and Earth King Realm Blood Corpses. There were none of the Celestial King Realm Blood Corpses that Chu Qingyun wanted.

Chu Qingyun couldn't help but shake his head.

But this was something beyond his control.

'Earth King Realm it is, then. Even if they can't kill Zhou Jianxiong and his group, they can still cause some trouble and buy me some time...'

With a gentle flap of his wings, Chu Qingyun dove down toward the valley where the Array Platform was located.

"Martial Soul Fire!"

As he descended, a thought flashed through Chu Qingyun's mind. He channeled a large amount of Flame Martial Soul Power into his hands, which erupted into a great, searing blaze.

Chu Qingyun brought his hands together. As he skimmed over the valley at a low altitude, the fire in his palms surged forth like a giant fiery serpent, sweeping rapidly through every corner of the valley.

All of the Blood Corpses were struck by the flames.

With Chu Qingyun's current strength as a level one Martial King, a brief touch from his Martial Soul Fire could, at most, slightly burn the lowest-level Martial Kings.

However, the intense heat of the flames instantly enraged all the Martial King Realm Blood Corpses.

"ROAR!"

"GRR..."

A series of furious roars echoed through the valley.

Some Blood Corpses began to retaliate, opening their mouths to continuously spit out pillars of blood-red light at Chu Qingyun as he circled in the air.

Unlike that stupid pig he had encountered earlier.

These Blood Corpses had been powerful Martial Artists in life. Even after turning, they could still instinctively use Primordial Power to attack.

But under Chu Qingyun's control, his Black Wing Martial Soul was extremely agile, allowing him to effortlessly dodge all the pillars of blood-red light.

After all, the Blood Corpses didn't understand things like coordination or how to cut off his escape routes.

While evading, Chu Qingyun shot down several blasts of Primordial Power from the air, striking the few Blood Corpses in the valley with the most potent auras.

All the Blood Corpses were now thoroughly enraged by him.

'That should be enough...'

Chu Qingyun felt the time was right. He lowered his altitude and flew toward the cave where he had previously discarded his clothes.

As expected, all the Blood Corpses roared furiously and followed him, rampaging wildly, leaping and bounding as they chased him out of the valley.

Moreover, the twenty-odd Blood Corpses all spat pillars of blood-red light at Chu Qingyun while they gave chase.

Chu Qingyun dodged the attacks, occasionally waving a hand to send back a blast of Primordial Power or Martial Soul Fire to keep the Blood Corpses enraged.

Furthermore, Chu Qingyun flew not only slowly but also very low, almost skimming the tops of the trees.

This was, of course, to prevent any Blood Corpses from falling behind and also to avoid attracting unwanted attention by flying too high.

The first time he led the Blood Corpses near the cave, Chu Qingyun didn't sense the aura of anyone else there.

Apparently, Zhou Jianxiong and his group had not arrived yet.

Not wanting to alert the enemy, Chu Qingyun led the Blood Corpses in another direction, circling a short distance away.

On his second approach, he still didn't sense any auras.

But on his third approach with the Blood Corpses, Chu Qingyun sensed eight new Martial King Realm auras in the direction of the cave.

Clearly, Zhou Jianxiong and his group had arrived!

Without further hesitation, Chu Qingyun led the twenty-odd Martial King Realm Blood Corpses from the forest below on a mighty charge toward the cave.

「Outside the cave.」

Zhou Jianxiong and his group had long since gathered intelligence on Chu Qingyun.

They knew Chu Qingyun practiced the Hidden Qi Technique, so they weren't suspicious as to why they couldn't sense his Qi.

"Chu Qingyun, so smug, aren't you? Get the hell out here! We know you're hiding inside, so stop playing dead!"

"Hahaha, you can't escape! If you know what's good for you, come on out and face your death! Otherwise, once we catch you, we'll make you wish you had!"

"When I get in there, I'm going to tear you limb from limb!"

At a signal from Zhou Jianxiong, several of his subordinates stood outside the cave, shouting a string of taunts and threats.

At that moment, everyone, including Zhou Jianxiong and even Tu Guang, was feeling incredibly smug.

They had thought it would take a great deal of effort to capture Chu Qingyun.

They never expected it to turn into a case of shooting fish in a barrel!

Naturally, their taunts and threats received no response, because Chu Qingyun was currently leading over twenty Martial King Realm Blood Corpses their way.

"Hmph, so he's a real turtle, is he? Does he really think he's safe just by hiding in his shell?"

"We're going in!"

After waiting a while longer with no activity, Zhou Jianxiong grew impatient. He snorted coldly, kicked the large boulder blocking the entrance to pieces, and led the charge into the cave.

With his strength as a level six Martial King and a Core Disciple, he had no fear of a sneak attack from Chu Qingyun!

The cave was winding, deep, and dark.

Zhou Jianxiong and his men proceeded cautiously, wary of the sneak attack they expected. However, even after they had explored the deepest part of the cave, they still hadn't seen so much as a shadow of a person.

"What's going on? Where is he!?"

"Tu Guang! Didn't you say Chu Qingyun was in this cave?"

Having reached the back of the cave, Zhou Jianxiong's face darkened. His gaze toward Tu Guang was filled with cold, murderous intent.

He felt as though Tu Guang had played him for a fool.

Tu Guang naturally noticed that undisguised killing intent.

He had realized during their journey that Zhou Jianxiong and his group were no saints. If they thought he had deceived them, it would undoubtedly mean his death.

Trembling, Tu Guang took out the insect-like Demon Beast he used for tracking scents.

"The scent... it shows this is the right direction. It can't be wrong..." Tu Guang swallowed nervously and released the insect Demon Beast once more.

The Demon Beast flew two circles in front of him before heading toward an inconspicuous corner at the back of the cave. It landed and remained motionless.

"There! Chu Qingyun is hiding right there!"

Tu Guang grew excited and pointed, shouting loudly.

Instantly, Zhou Yongyang and the others nearby tensed up reflexively, their guards raised.

Zhou Jianxiong, however, just snorted coldly. He shoved them aside, walked over, and kicked away a few rocks.

And then, they saw the pile of clothes and shoes lying underneath the stones.
