Chapter 1296: Chapter 585: Destiny Is Everywhere

Sammi fell into a rage.

"Haa!!?"

The unlucky miss who had always been meek toward life was about to be completely devoured by anger.

What the hell does this mean!!?

What the fuck do you people mean!?

Sammi glared furiously at the speechless Destiny Church crowd before her, feeling the vein on her forehead throb nonstop.

That fury of having been deceived and played for hundreds of years was almost about to blow the top of her skull off.

"You guys..."

Back then she’d already thought this bunch were all lunatics and just wanted to stay as far away from them as possible.

Sammi first met this group who called themselves the "Destiny Church" back when she hadn’t fully grown up yet.

At that time, she was just an ordinary Demon who’d become a bit locally famous for constantly being unlucky, with strength neither high nor low.

She spent her days in the company of all sorts of unexpected "little accidents," struggling on the thin line between having enough to eat and sheer survival because of all kinds of crappy incidents.

It was while she was running away from yet another stroke of Misfortune that Sammi ran into this group.

Every one of them was wearing a hood that hid their faces, and an eye-shaped Holy Emblem, the standard outfit of a Divine Church.

Which, in itself, was no big deal.

Although Hell was an unapproachable place of terror for mortals, for Divine believers—especially the Evil God and neutral-aligned Divines—it wasn’t forbidden ground.

Missionaries in Hell weren’t rare.

It was common to see Divine Churches walking through Hell, preaching their Divine doctrines to Demons.

The Master of Hell might be the sovereign of all Demons, but he wasn’t a Divine, and had zero interest in becoming one.

His rank was extremely high, roughly comparable to an Ancient Gods who didn’t need believers, and he didn’t restrict the personal faith of Demons either.

So Hell really did have religious freedom; quite a few Demons would verbally profess faith in one Divine or another.

Sammi had just assumed she’d run into some missionaries trying to recruit and spread their doctrine, didn’t think much of it, and was ready to just walk around them.

But those people acted like they’d locked onto her, sticking to her heels as if they’d come specifically for her.

That feeling of being targeted made her back go cold, as though some ominous thing had latched onto her.

After several attempts to shake them off failed, Sammi finally stopped and decided to deal with those tagalongs.

And then... she felt like she’d bumped into something filthy.

Those guys treated her with extreme respect.

Even though their strength far surpassed hers at the time, they behaved like Servants, and even addressed her as some "Chosen of Destiny" or whatever.

Which left Sammi baffled.

They kept saying that Sammi was "favored by Destiny," that she had received Destiny’s gift, and absolutely had to return to the Church with them...

Back then, Sammi already thought they were a bunch of pure, uncut idiots.

Whose Chosen is this damn unlucky?

Since when does your so-called "gift" make someone live this miserably?

Return to the Church?

I’ll "return" your ****!

If she hadn’t been unable to beat them, Sammi would’ve happily shown them what Hell’s dark hand looked like and given their skulls a nice round of physical repair!

But she couldn’t win.

So all she could do was run.

So after a few perfunctory exchanges, Sammi simply chose to slip away, completely unwilling to get entangled with this group of brain-dead believers.

She ran.

Unexpectedly, they didn’t give chase; they just watched her leaving.

It was only those gazes hidden under the hoods that still made her feel like needles were pricking her back.

Just when Sammi thought the whole thing was over, those guys refused to give up.

The Destiny Church wasn’t willing to just let her go; over the next few decades, they would appear before Sammi from time to time, constantly extending invitations.

They didn’t actually do anything, neither using force nor retaliating when cursed at, just endlessly repeating that baffling "prophecy."

—"Destiny will ultimately return."

—"You will defeat your fated nemesis and become the one and only child of Destiny."

Sammi’s attitude toward this never changed.

A bunch of brain-dead shamans!

Only a ghost would believe you people!

Sammi had no way to deal with this lot who wouldn’t hit back or talk back, so eventually she just couldn’t be bothered. Whenever she saw them, she’d turn around and leave.

This bizarre situation continued all the way until she advanced to Legendary, and only then did it end.

After Sammi became Legendary, the Destiny Church people seemed to finally give up; they hadn’t shown up again for several hundred years.

She’d thought the matter was finally done with, only to run into them again now.

Not seeing these tagalongs for many years, Sammi actually felt a bit nostalgic, and had been ready to give them some face, chat for a bit, then leave.

Who’d have thought they hadn’t changed at all, still following that same familiar routine, spouting lines she was already sick of hearing.

The only difference was... it seemed the long gap had made them rusty at their job, and they actually slipped up, letting some truth out.

Come on then!

Explain to me what the hell "Misfortune backlash" is supposed to mean?

Didn’t you people say back then that it was "Destiny’s favor"?

I said I didn’t want that favor, that I wanted to go back to normal, but you told me favor couldn’t be taken back, that I just had to stick with it...

Huh?

In the past I only thought you were idiots and couldn’t be bothered to argue.

And now you’re telling me... you were acting this whole time?

You knew it was backlash?

Huh?

So all this time, you weren’t the idiots... you were taking me for an idiot!!?

No kidding, Sammi was so mad in that moment she was about to explode.

Because she realized that this group definitely knew how to get rid of this beyond-miserable cursed Destiny.

They clearly knew the inside story, yet watched her struggle to survive like a joke for these hundreds of years!
