Chapter 1789: Leaving!
Chapter 1789: Leaving!
Max looked at them without any change in expression.
Seraphine and Fin seemed to want to say more, but the pressure in Max’s eyes made them swallow the rest of their words. In the end, both of them raised their weapons and killed themselves at the same time.
Their bodies shattered into golden light and Killing Points before disappearing from the base of the Witch God Tree.
The second faction was gone.
For the first time since Max and the others had descended from Witch God Valley, the battlefield became truly quiet.
Now, only Max, the elves from the third faction, and Rosaline with her people remained.
Rosaline’s gaze remained fixed on Max.
She had watched everything from beginning to end. She had seen him force Orion to postpone the fight, make Kaiden acknowledge him as a possible junior brother, frighten the second faction elves into killing themselves, and stand there as if all of it was natural.
The more she looked at him, the more her original curiosity changed into a far more serious interest. The terrifying sword aura she had chased here was real. The strength behind it was also real. More than that, Max had shown enough power to stand among the strongest geniuses in the first round of the Cosmic Ascension Conference.
Rosaline finally stepped forward.
Her followers immediately became alert, but she raised one hand and stopped them from moving.
Max turned his eyes toward her.
"Are you done observing?" he asked.
Rosaline looked at Dragonheart in his hand, then at the faint golden-black scales still fading from his body, and finally at the little cursed eye moving slowly around his left shoulder.
"For now," she said calmly. "But I have a question."
Max said nothing.
Rosaline’s eyes became sharper. "With your strength, you should already be qualified to compete for one of the great legacies in this conference. Are you aiming for the Sword God Legacy?"
The moment she said those words, Caroline and Nancy both looked at Max.
Jessica also became quiet.
Rosaline continued before Max answered, "Or perhaps the War God Legacy? Considering your body strength, your draconic power, your Divine Veins, and the way you crushed Selene’s defenses with one punch, you might have a chance there as well."
Max’s expression remained calm, but the air around him changed slightly.
Rosaline noticed it and continued in a measured tone, "Do not misunderstand me. I am not asking because I want to stop you. I am asking because someone with your strength will not stay unnoticed for long. After what happened here, every major force will begin paying attention to you. The Sword God Palace will not ignore you because of Dragonheart. The elves will not let you go because of Selene. Stellar Templar will remember Morgana’s death. And if you truly aim for one of the supreme legacies, then even Orion and Kaiden may become your opponents sooner or later."
Max looked at her quietly.
Rosaline’s tone became more serious. "So I want to know, Max Morgan. Are you aiming for the Sword God Legacy, the War God Legacy, or something even greater?"
For a moment, no one spoke.
The base of the Witch God Tree was still ruined from the earlier battles. Shattered roots, broken light fragments, fading curse marks, and traces of seven-colored lightning still covered the battlefield. Max stood at the center of it all, Dragonheart in hand, the cursed eye still circling near his left shoulder, while everyone waited for his answer.
Then Max smiled faintly.
"Why should I tell you?"
Rosaline paused.
Max turned slightly, looking toward Caroline and the others as if preparing to leave.
"I have no obligation to explain my goals to someone who only came to watch."
Rosaline’s eyes narrowed slightly, but she did not get angry.
Instead, her interest deepened.
Max glanced back at her and added calmly, "And just so you know, I have no interest in any of these so called legacies."
Rosaline stared at him.
The answer was arrogant.
It was also perfectly in line with everything she had just witnessed.
Rosaline slowly smiled.
"I see," she said softly. "Then this conference will become very interesting."
Max did not respond.
He turned away from her and looked toward Caroline, Jessica, Nancy, and the third faction elves.
"We are leaving."
Caroline nodded, though her eyes were still filled with many emotions after what had happened.
Rosaline did not stop them.
She simply watched Max begin to move, her gaze lingering on his back, Dragonheart, and the strange cursed eye that continued to move around his body like a living mark of Witch God Valley.
The battle at the base of the Witch God Tree had ended.
After leaving the base of the Witch God Tree, Max led Caroline, Jessica, Nancy, and the remaining third faction elves away from that cursed region without stopping.
The journey was much quieter than before. No one spoke much, and even the wind seemed calmer after the chaos they had survived. Behind them, the Witch God Tree slowly disappeared into the distance, its enormous trunk fading into the clouds like a dark pillar connecting heaven and earth.
The cursed eye attached to Max continued moving around his left shoulder and upper arm from time to time, blinking silently as if it had no intention of leaving him. Max still did not pay much attention to it.
As long as it did not restrict his movement, interfere with his battles, or try to attack those around him, he decided to ignore it for now.
In time, they reached a neutral city.
Unlike the deadly silence surrounding Witch God Valley, the neutral city was filled with movement, lights, voices, and cultivators from many races. Tall stone walls surrounded the place, and defensive formations shone faintly above the gates, separating the city from the dangers of the wilderness.
Participants of the Cosmic Ascension Conference moved through the streets in groups, some injured, some excited, some cautious, and some openly watching others as if looking for targets.
This was a temporary safe region, but even here, the atmosphere remained tense because everyone knew that the first round was still ongoing and that safety only existed as long as the rules allowed it.
Max stopped near a quiet street after entering the city.
Caroline looked at him and immediately sensed something from his expression. "You are leaving."
Max nodded.
Jessica’s face changed slightly. "Already?"
"Yes," Max said calmly. "I still have something to do."
Caroline’s expression became serious.
