Chapter 5177: Descending Into the Battlefield
Chapter 5177: Descending Into the Battlefield
In the deck of the flying ship, Evelynn and the others were gathered.
They overlooked the battlefield of the Galaxy Wormhole. The battlefield stretched endlessly out from the wormhole. Millions upon millions of cultivators and beasts fought amidst the void as the skies trembled and Laws raged.
Flames capable of incinerating mountains crossed paths with rivers of dark water. Lightning serpents spanning hundreds of kilometers devoured armies whole, even while they were encased in battle formations, while colossal beasts, and powerful humans clashed against one another with earth-shattering and sky-rending force.
It was a sight that could even make Exalts lose their composure.
The Galaxy Wormhole revolved in the distance like an enormous celestial vortex.
This was a giant wormhole, its diameter stretching as far as three thousand kilometers. It was nothing but a looming disaster for the human race, its edges grinding against the earth and the twisting skies. The surrounding heaven and earth energy was thick despite the desolate air, all of it rushing from the other end of the Galaxy Wormhole, greatly aiding the forces of the Hydra Galaxy.
On the other side, where the armies of the human race surged, the heaven and earth energy had thinned to a frightening degree, leaving them at a great disadvantage.
Even at a glance, it was obvious which side held the advantage.
It wasn’t the Human Galaxy that held the advantage. It was the Hydra Galaxy that was winning, slowly, but surely. They didn’t seem to be attacking in overwhelming numbers but laughing and mocking as they roamed the battlefield, taking down innumerable war formations.
The human forces had formed layer upon layer of defensive formations around the Galaxy Wormhole, creating a vast encirclement that extended beyond sight. One can enter this encirclement, but would be hard-pressed to leave. It resembled a giant radiant flower blooming amidst the dark sea of stars.
Yet that flower was beginning to wilt, its outer petals had already collapsed, as countless defensive lines had been breached.
Entire battalions had vanished from existence.
Broken warships drifted in the void while shattered artifacts, armaments, and corpses floated endlessly, adding to the crimson haze permeating the battlefield.
The scent of blood was everywhere.
It had become so concentrated that it seemed to seep into one’s soul.
Lereza lowered her gaze slightly, her emerald eyes trembling, "So this is what the battlefields in the Greater Realm Pathways are like."
"Yes, but this one’s more brutal, as this is a fight to the death, while Greater Realm Pathways can’t be easily breached. The battles there would span out for hundreds and thousands of years, while this is even more brutal, with even Exalts dropping dead like flies- all in an attempt to gain a foothold over the realm."
Davis offered his thoughts as he had glimpsed the Greater Realm Pathway battlefields through the memories of City Lord Kain Waterland.
"Our human race seems like they’re holding on, for now-" Evelynn also commented.
Everywhere she looked, life was being extinguished.
Still, the humans persevered.
Evelynn and the others didn’t immediately descend. They first listened to the cries on the battlefield.
From it, they learned that the most infuriating topic being discussed or simply cursed was Realm Master Malzor Hexadra’s betrayal. He had fled to the other side with the Hexadra Clan after kidnapping an important individual known as Madam Wesley.
Davis vaguely felt like he recalled something, but he couldn’t be bothered to bring it to light at the moment. Instead, he scoffed at the betrayal of the Realm Master. He wasn’t surprised since the Realm Master had blamed it on Venerable Knight Lussandra for ’forcing’ him.
Nonetheless, it seemed that the Celestial Transcendent announced that Madam Wesley was still safe, and what Realm Master Malzor Hexadra kidnapped was none other than his avatar, which blew up on the other side, causing immense joy to surge in the hearts of the cultivators and beasts of the Human Galaxy.
It had caused their morale to spike.
Hence, even after Realm Master Malzor Hexadra had revealed his true colors, betraying the human race and turning his blades against those who fought alongside him, they still stood and fought.
The defensive encirclement surrounding the Galaxy Wormhole had become vaguely distorted, appearing as though it could crumble at any moment, but it somehow refused to collapse.
Every breach was filled, every fallen commander and general was replaced, and every retreat became another stand to push forward.
Reinforcements continuously poured in from all sides - stemming from the Sanctuary Cities after being conscripted or called upon to enter voluntarily.
It made Davis and the others feel some pride because anyone could see from here that they were fighting a losing battle without the Realm Master, but at the same time, he felt the more they died killing each other, the better it was for him as a Divergent and their plan, since they needed to escape after they were done here, lest they be caught.
At this moment, someone rushed towards them.
"Greetings, Grand Elder! Our Abyssal Radiance Empire’s forces are ready to be deployed. Your timely presence helps our-"
"Ignore us."
Davis shot a look at a soldier from the Abyssal Radiance Empire. He seemed to be at Level Three Primarch Stage, a commander-level expert. However, his eyes barely quivered as he succumbed to Davis’s Corruption of Will instantly.
"Yes."
He cupped his hands and left, leaving the others speechless as they saw Davis perform something nearly incomprehensible to them again.
"They noticed the ship’s emblem and thought it belonged to a Grand Elder." Davis said, "It doesn’t matter. Let’s go."
"Yes~"
The women behind him all responded except Jillian Hayden. Zevonn Malark also didn’t respond as he waited to see how their plan would pan out, his gaze filled with excitement. To participate even as a bystander in this world-ending battle, he felt incredibly proud.
Evelynn and Illumina disappeared as they slipped into the shadows.
Davis and the Frostcloud Sword Empress also alighted the flying ship as they disappeared into thin air, leaving behind Lereza and the two non-combatants.
Lereza’s instructions were rather simple.
She had always been here to protect Evelynn, and now that Illumina accompanied her, her job was to look after these two individuals whom she guessed Davis wanted to take, and the other- she wasn’t so sure.
Nonetheless, even as she complained that she wanted to participate, Davis told her that he would consider this mission a failure if any single person in either group were to really die, so her presence as a protector was always required.
She even felt strange that Davis somehow didn’t want to let her commit slaughter. However, she loved that he cared about her and was willing to listen to him.
"You two- just stay focused and don’t go anywhere."
Lereza warned Jillian Hayden and Zevonn Malark, causing them to nod like a hen.
She looked into the distance, trying to find Davis and Glacia Frigidveil through her eyes as she squinted.
It wasn’t until she saw them appear in the middle of the battlefield that her heart jumped, making her quickly wish nothing would happen to them.
Davis and the Frostcloud Sword Empress appeared in the airspace side-by-side.
Numerous corpses floated in the air as space seemed to be in disarray with all the innumerable attacks being thrown around and formations whizzing to eclipse and overpower their enemies.
They were like a pair of dust in the battlefield, nearly unnoticeable since they were still concealing their undulations. However, some soldiers started noticing them.
"Hey..."
"Isn’t that..."
The side from the human galaxy began to clamor one after another as they saw the notorious blonde hair, purple robe, and even the sapphire of the infamous being known as the Divine Emperor of Death, but not for a single moment did they dare to believe what they were seeing, since the Hydra Galaxy had plenty of beasts that were skilled in illusions.
As the wave of doubts rose from the frontlines to the place where generals were posted in the rear, they quickly started scrambling in an attempt to inform their Supreme Commander, the Celestial Transcendent.
But at that very moment, they saw him raising his hands as a pitch-black energy encompassed the space.
"Awaken, my fellow ghosts."
His voice wasn’t particularly loud, but every soul in the battlefield nearly felt their souls tugged, nearly making them gasp.
At that moment, the noisy battlefield suddenly became silent as the sounds of metal clashing, roars, and war cries died down.
*Crack! Crack!~*
*Hisss~*
From the center of the battlefield, numerous corpses stood up, and ghosts rose if they were missing a body. Even mangled corpses rose to the air, their eyes gleaming with a cold purplish light.
