"Hello, everyone," the Bone Woman said, greeting them all with natural grace.

Shen Lijun sized up the Bone Woman carefully, then pulled Zhao Yuan aside and whispered, "Is this young woman really your secretary? Not your girlfriend?"

Zhao Yuan didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Mom, why would you think that?"

Shen Lijun said, "Well, I think this young lady is very pretty, and she has a wonderful demeanor..."

Zhao Yuan quickly cut her off. "Mom, please stop trying to play matchmaker. Your son already has a girlfriend."

"Oh?" Shen Lijun's eyes instantly lit up. "So, you already have a girlfriend?" she said excitedly. "What does she look like? What's she like? When are you going to bring her home for your mother to meet?"

Zhao Yuan hadn't expected his mom to be so eager. He gave a wry smile. "She's very beautiful and has a wonderful personality. I'll bring her home after the New Year."

"Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!" Shen Lijun said excitedly. "When she comes, I'll cook a feast for her." But her excitement quickly turned to worry. "Will she look down on us for living in this poor, remote place?"

Zhao Yuan couldn't help but laugh. "How could she? The girlfriend your son found has an absolutely wonderful character. You don't have to worry about a thing."

Zhao Ling, who had snuck over at some point and overheard their conversation, piped up, "That's right, Mom. My brother is so amazing, how could my future sister-in-law possibly look down on us?"

Shen Lijun shot her a look and said irritably, "You haven't even met the girl, and you're already calling her your sister-in-law?"

Zhao Ling stuck out her tongue, looking incredibly playful and cute.

Zhao Shiquan eyed the Bone Woman for a moment, then said with some concern, "Son, this secretary of yours is very beautiful. You have to make sure you don't make any... mistakes."

Zhao Yuan laughed. "Dad, don't you have any faith in my self-control?"

Zhao Shiquan said seriously, "Frankly, I don't. Why don't you get a male secretary instead?"

Zhao Yuan passed the buck to the pharmaceutical factory. "Bai Mei was assigned by the factory; I can't just replace her on a whim. Besides, in this day and age, if I really had a male secretary by my side, people would think there's something wrong with me even more."

Zhao Shiquan was stunned. "People would be more likely to think there's something wrong with you for having a male secretary?" he asked, confused. "What kind of sense does that make?"

Shen Lijun couldn't take it anymore. She shot Zhao Shiquan a look and huffed, "Are you seriously questioning our son's character? Are you even his father? That's enough. Son, ignore your dad. Come on, let's go home."

With that, she grabbed Zhao Yuan and started pulling him toward the house.

"Hold on, I still have to unload some things." Zhao Yuan had the Bone Woman open the back of the Mercedes G55 SUV, and he started taking out chickens, ducks, vegetables, and other things.

Shen Lijun asked, puzzled, "Son, did you go to the town market on your way home?"

"These were all gifts," Zhao Yuan said, then briefly explained where the chickens, ducks, and vegetables came from.

Only then did everyone realize that Zhao Yuan had heroically saved someone on his way home.

Zhao Shiquan immediately puffed up with pride. "Well done," he said with a hearty laugh. "You're my son, after all. You grew up under my influence and inherited a bit of my style."

The poor man hadn't even finished his posturing when his dear wife mercilessly shot him down.

Shen Lijun glared at him and barked, "Style, my ass! Stop boasting and get over here and help carry this stuff!"

The surrounding villagers also swarmed over to help, carrying everything from the back of the vehicle into Zhao Yuan's house.

The cooked food and seasonal vegetables were sent straight to the kitchen, while the live chickens and ducks were put in the coop to be raised until it was time to eat them. The two Little Dang Kangs were mistaken for piglets and were about to be tossed into the pigpen. This sent the two little guys into a panic, and they started squealing, "DANG KANG! DANG KANG!" The villager holding them jumped in surprise and asked, bewildered, "Why do these two piglets sound so strange?"

Zhao Yuan hurried forward to 'rescue' the two Little Dang Kangs. "Don't put them in the pigpen. Just let them run around outside."

The villager said, confused, "Huh? Let them run around outside? Won't they just run off? And how are we supposed to fatten them up?"

"They don't need fattening up." Zhao Yuan waved his hand dismissively. He couldn't very well say that these two were Auspicious Beast Dang Kangs, so he had to invent an excuse. "They're not meant for meat. They're a type of pet pig from abroad."

"Pet pigs?" The villager was even more astonished, clicking his tongue in wonder. "Well, I'll be. City folk sure are something else, raising pigs as pets."

In the end, they listened to Zhao Yuan and set the two Little Dang Kangs down on the ground.

The two little ones immediately ran to the White Cat's side, seeking comfort.

The Bone Woman would be staying in Jinhua Village for the next few days. Zhao Yuan's family home was definitely too crowded, and the building at the medicinal herb cultivation base only had its main frame up—it was a long way from being finished. The only option was to find her a place to stay with someone in the village.
