Chapter 623 - 623: Little Demonic King of Chaos
The little girl tilted her head up, blinking her big eyes, and asked curiously, "What's a Ghost Spirit? Can you eat it? Is it tasty?"
'Heh, I never would have guessed this little one was such a foodie.'
Zhao Yuan patiently explained, "A Ghost Spirit isn't something you eat. It's a type of master-servant relationship."
The little girl, who may or may not have understood, tilted her head and thought for a good while before asking again, "So, if I become a Ghost Spirit, can I stay by Dad's side forever?"
"That's right." Zhao Yuan nodded. "The relationship between a Ghost Spirit and its host lasts a lifetime. So, unless I die, you can always stay by my side."
The little girl shot to her feet, waving her two small fists, and said with a serious expression, "I won't let Dad die!"
Her expression and her posture were so adorable it was almost overwhelming.
Zhao Yuan was amused and touched. He smiled and said, "Alright, I'll be counting on you to protect me from now on!"
The little girl nodded emphatically. "Don't worry, Dad, I'll be sure to protect you!"
"So, does that mean you agree to become my Ghost Spirit?" Zhao Yuan confirmed.
The little girl replied, "I agree! As long as I can stay by Dad's side, I'll agree to anything!"
"Alright, then let's form the Soul Contract right now."
Following the magic techniques he had learned from the Ying Family, Zhao Yuan formed a Soul Contract with the little girl, taking her on as his Ghost Spirit.
This was the first Ghost Spirit Zhao Yuan had ever acquired. Thrilled by the novelty of it, he immediately searched through his collection of Witch Priest knowledge, found a Cultivation Technique suitable for a Yin Ghost's Cultivation, and taught it to the little girl.
Although the little girl had a Supreme Yin Life Chart and had been maliciously turned into a Fierce Ghost in a Blessed Land and kept for several years, her time as a ghost was ultimately too short. In terms of strength, she wasn't very powerful—never mind comparing her to Zeng Rui or the Bone Woman, she couldn't even match Ying Ji's Ghost Spirit.
According to Zhao Yuan's assessment, the little girl was currently in the Early Stage of Yin Spirit. The only reason she could manifest a human form was because the nearby Spiritual Qi was so abundant. If she left this area, she would immediately revert into a blurry, indistinct phantom.
Therefore, it was essential to strengthen the little girl's Cultivation.
In addition to the Cultivation Technique, Zhao Yuan also selected a few types of Magic from the Witch and Priest School to teach her, so she would have some means of self-defense.
Many types of Magic from the Witch and Priest School required Ghost Qi or Yin Qi to be cast. Therefore, it was no problem for a Ghost to use them; in fact, the effects were even better than when a human cast them.
Impressively, not only was the little girl adorable, but her aptitude was also extremely high. She quickly understood and learned everything Zhao Yuan taught her.
And so, the nearby small animals were in for a rough time.
One moment, the little girl would cast a Weakness Technique on a squirrel in a tree, making the climbing creature suddenly lose its strength and fall with a THUD, landing spread-eagled on the ground. The next moment, she would cast a Fear Technique on some wild kittens in the grass, scaring them into screeching and scattering in all directions...
The little girl was having the time of her life, while Zhao Yuan just smiled wryly. 'I thought she was a little angel, but in the blink of an eye, she's turned into a little menace. This is going to be a real headache from now on.'
Zeng Rui, however, wore a fond expression. She smiled and said, "It's a child's nature to be lively. If she wasn't getting into mischief, that's when you'd really have a problem."
Zhao Yuan suddenly remembered something and hurriedly asked the little girl, "Oh, right, I still don't know your name."
The little girl shook her head, her tone a bit dejected. "I don't remember."
"You don't remember?" Zhao Yuan was surprised, but then he thought about it and understood.
'The little girl was only five or six when she died. Afterwards, someone used a Secret Technique to cloud her mind, turning her into an Evil Ghost for several years. Her memories from when she was alive were probably wiped clean during that process. How could she possibly remember her own name?'
"Poor child." After a soft sigh, Zhao Yuan said, "How about this? I'll give you a name. It's rather inconvenient not to have one."
"Yay, yay! Dad, hurry up and give me a name," the little girl said, clapping her small hands, her face full of anticipation.
Zhao Yuan tilted his head, thinking for a good long while before he spoke. "I remember a word, 'Mei,' which means a beautiful Ghost. And you really are adorable. Why don't you take my surname, Zhao, and be called Zhao Mei?"
"Zhao Mei? I love it! I'm Zhao Mei now!" The little girl danced around, cheering happily at finally having a name.
Zeng Rui rolled her eyes and bluntly criticized Zhao Yuan, "You're terrible at naming things."
Zhao Yuan scratched his head and chuckled. "Terrible or not, all that matters is that Zhao Mei likes it."
Zeng Rui retorted irritably, "She'd be happy with any name you gave her, even if you called her 'Spot' or 'Fluffy.' That child really sees you as her father."
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of her," Zhao Yuan said. Although he hadn't known Zhao Mei for long, he had already grown fond of the innocent and adorable little girl.
"I believe you will." Zeng Rui glanced at Zhao Yuan, then at Zhao Mei, and said, "I can tell this child's future accomplishments will be extraordinary. She might even make history."
"Oh? Does Elder Zeng also have the power to see the future?" Zhao Yuan didn't take her words to heart, smiling dismissively. "Make history? It's not like she's going to become a Ghost King or Yama, right?"
Zeng Rui simply smiled without a word, but her expression was profound.
"Oh, right, I need to make a Ghost Residence for Zhao Mei, otherwise she'll have nowhere to stay." Zhao Yuan hadn't noticed Zeng Rui's expression, his mind already on another matter.
Zeng Rui shook her head. "Don't go to the trouble. A single Ghost Residence can house several Ghosts. Let Zhao Mei stay with me. I'm quite fond of this child, and this way I can look after her and teach her."
Zhao Yuan was overjoyed. "Really? That's wonderful! Elder Zeng, I'll be leaving Zhao Mei in your care, then."
'Zeng Rui's Cultivation, knowledge, and general conduct were all top-notch. If she could be Zhao Mei's first teacher, it would be a huge blessing for the girl. And it would save him a lot of effort, too.'
With Zhao Mei's situation settled, Zhao Yuan didn't linger any longer and turned to head back to the villa.
Perhaps because she had been confined for so long, Zhao Mei acted like a wild horse that had broken its reins on the way back, darting all over the place.
Luckily, she was a Ghost. Otherwise, with all that running around, she would have been covered in scrapes and bruises.
Zhao Mei was having the time of her life, but the small animals in the woods were paying the price. They were terrified by her endless stream of pranks, dodging and fleeing with shrieks of panic.
"My goodness, she's a regular Little Demonic King of Chaos!" Zhao Yuan sighed, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
