Chapter 629 - 629: Offended the Wrong Person

"What?!"

Ma Hui was stunned. He never would have imagined that so many people would come to collect their debts! It was as if nearly all his building material suppliers had ganged up to demand payment from him.

Ma Hui suppressed the rage in his heart and questioned him, "President Li, what you're all doing goes against the rules. How am I supposed to keep working with you in the future?"

After a moment's hesitation, President Li said, "Boss Ma, there's something I shouldn't be saying right now, but considering we've had a decent partnership in the past, I'll give you a heads-up—Lihong Cement will no longer be working with you."

"What do you mean by that?" Ma Hui asked, dumbfounded.

President Li replied, "It's simple. From now on, Lihong Cement will no longer sell you any cement. Not a single bag."

"Why?" Ma Hui demanded, a wicked anger flaring up inside him.

President Li gave a bitter laugh. "I don't know the reason. That's just the notice I received from corporate."

Ma Hui ground his teeth. "Fine. Fine! FINE! Lihong Cement sure is amazing! But you're not the only ones selling cement on the market! As soon as I put the word out, I guarantee I'll have plenty of other suppliers begging to work with me! I'm definitely not the one who's going to lose out by ending this partnership."

President Li sighed. "Boss Ma, I'm afraid you're in for a disappointment. According to the news I just received, it's not just Lihong Cement. No other brand of cement supplier will sell to you either."

"What?" Ma Hui was shocked. This situation was far beyond anything he could have imagined.

On the other end of the line, it sounded like President Li was talking to someone next to him.

A moment later, he spoke again. "Boss Ma, I just spoke with President Lin and President Sun. It turns out it's not just cement. All the other building material suppliers have received similar notices. They won't be selling anything to you."

"How... How could this be?"

At that moment, all the anger in Ma Hui's heart was gone, replaced by a deep, profound fear.

If he couldn't buy any building materials, how could he do renovations? How could he stay in business? This was going to ruin him completely!

"Boss Ma, did you offend someone important?" President Li asked.

That sentence was a rude awakening.

Ma Hui suddenly remembered Liu Xiaoya's client.

In the past two days, the only people he'd offended were Liu Xiaoya and her client.

Liu Xiaoya certainly didn't have this kind of power, but what about her client? That young man who'd bought a villa in the Cao Tang Peninsula District? Could all of this have been his doing?

The more Ma Hui thought about it, the more certain he became that the client was behind it all!

He had threatened to make it impossible for the client to buy building materials, so the client found the suppliers and cut off his own supply chain.

He had threatened to run Liu Xiaoya out of the renovation and construction industry in Rongcheng City, so the client took down his backer, ensuring he would be the one to go down first!

Every single one of these techniques directly mirrored his own threats, slapping him in the face again and again!

'If it wasn't Liu Xiaoya's client who did this, who else could it be?'

'Who else would be this petty?!'

'What the hell is that kid's background? How could he get to the building material suppliers and even take care of President Ying? And from what President Ying said on the phone just now, that kid's status is even higher than his! It's like he holds the power of life and death over President Ying!'

After the shock wore off, Ma Hui's heart was filled with regret.

He'd just wanted to act tough and talk some trash, but he'd ended up kicking an iron plate. No, that wasn't right. How could this be compared to an iron plate? This was like stepping on a goddamn landmine!

Ma Hui's face was a mask of misery, and he was regretting it so much his guts were turning green.

'You're so damn powerful, so why didn't you say something? If you'd given me a heads-up, I never would've dared to bare my teeth at you!'

And somehow, he was actually blaming Zhao Yuan for this...

Just then, his employee grabbed the phone back and yelled in a voice even more panicked and frantic than before, "Boss, it's bad! It's really bad!"

"Now what?" Ma Hui asked, while inwardly roaring: 'When the hell is this going to end?!'

The employee's voice trembled. "The Bureau of Industry and Commerce is here! They said they received a tip that we might be using substandard materials and they're here to investigate. The Public Security Bureau is here too! They say our company is suspected of commercial fraud..."

"What?"

Ma Hui never imagined that even government officials would get involved in this matter.

"They're trying to drive me to my death!" he sighed in despair.

The relentless series of blows left Ma Hui distracted. His foot slipped on the pedal, and with a BANG, his Land Rover SUV slammed into the rear of the car in front of him.

Driving in the city, the speed wasn't high, so the collision wasn't severe. But Ma Hui wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and he was in a daze. The impact smashed his head against the steering wheel, instantly breaking the skin and sending blood streaming down his face.

The pain, combined with the overwhelming anger and panic, caused his vision to go black, and he passed out...

Zhao Yuan was completely unaware of this series of events that Ma Hui was experiencing.

After calling Ying Ji, he hadn't given the matter another thought. In his view, with Ying Ji on the case, it would be handled perfectly.

He had already returned to Lin Xue's house.

When he got out of the car, the Bone Woman did not follow, remaining in the vehicle to wait.

Lin Xue had wanted to invite her in, but the memory of the Bone Woman's identity as a Demon still terrified her. After a moment's hesitation, she dismissed the thought.

As soon as they entered the house, they heard a clamor of voices coming from the study.

Lin Xue peered into the study and saw that it was full of people. Puzzled, she turned to Xue Wanyun, who was coming out of the kitchen to greet them, and asked curiously, "Mom, why are there so many people in Grandpa's study?"

Xue Wanyun glanced at Zhao Yuan and said with a smile, "They were all drawn here by the calligraphy Xiaozhao wrote."

Lin Liangzhe, who was in the study, had terrifyingly sharp ears. He managed to hear their conversation over the noisy crowd, immediately pushed his way through the people, and peeked out. Seeing Zhao Yuan, he burst into a hearty laugh. "Xiaozhao, you're back! Come, quick, come over to Grandpa!"

Lin Liangzhe's excessive enthusiasm made Zhao Yuan shudder involuntarily.

Before he could reply, the crowd gathered in the study turned their heads in unison, their fervent gazes locking onto him.

Zhao Yuan suddenly felt as if he'd been spotted by a dozen ravenous wolves...

'What's with these people? Why are they staring at me like that?'

His mind was filled with questions.
