Divine Level Witch Doctor
Chapter 634 - 634: Xue Wanyun Teaches Her Daughter
In the kitchen, Xue Wanyun was the head chef, with Zhao Yuan and Lin Xue assisting her.
While making fish soup, Xue Wanyun said with a broad smile, "Xiaozhao, I really didn't expect your calligraphy to stun all of your Grandpa Lin's friends. Let me tell you, his friends aren't just anybody. They're all renowned calligraphers in Rongcheng City, and even nationally, they're quite well-known."
Zhao Yuan's good performance made her feel proud as well. She already had a very favorable impression of Zhao Yuan, but after what had just happened, the more she looked at him, the more she liked what she saw. She couldn't help but sigh internally, 'Xiaoxue has such good taste; she really knows how to pick a boyfriend. Hmm, in that respect, she takes after me.'
"Aunt Xue, you're too kind. I was just scribbling randomly. I wouldn't dare compare myself to Grandpa Lin," Zhao Yuan replied humbly as he plucked and washed the vegetables.
"Now you're being far too modest," Xue Wanyun said, rolling her eyes at him. "I may not understand calligraphy, but I'm not blind. I could see the shocked reactions of your Grandpa Lin and his friends when they saw your writing. They were even calling you 'teacher.' How could your skill possibly be low?"
Lin Xue chimed in, "Exactly! Zhao Yuan, you were so focused on writing just now that you didn't notice the reactions of my grandpa and his friends. When they saw your work, every single one of them looked like their eyes were about to pop out of their heads. Their dumbfounded expressions were absolutely hilarious!"
As she spoke, she gazed at Zhao Yuan, her eyes as gentle as water, filled with worship and admiration.
Zhao Yuan rubbed his nose and gave a shy smile, actually a little embarrassed by all the praise.
For the next while, Zhao Yuan kept busy in the kitchen.
As the saying goes, children from poor families learn to be independent early. From a very young age, Zhao Yuan had helped his parents with chores and had long since learned to cook. Although he hadn't spent much time in the kitchen since starting college, he hadn't lost his touch.
What's more, after getting to know Hao Li, he had secretly picked up a few tricks. Especially when it came to knife skills. While his current level couldn't compare to Hao Li's, it was still better than that of many professional chefs in hotels.
He put the knife skills he had learned from the Tripod Cuisine School to use. A rhythmic and pleasant "SWISH SWISH SWISH, THWACK THWACK THWACK" echoed through the kitchen, almost like a piece of music. Amidst the sound, the kitchen knife danced, glinting coldly. In an instant, the lettuce on the cutting board was sliced, plated, and arranged.
Xue Wanyun peeked over and was instantly taken aback. The lettuce slices Zhao Yuan had cut were just the right thickness. Most importantly, every single slice was identical—a true testament to his knife skills.
Astonished, she couldn't help but praise him, "Xiaozhao, your knife skills are simply incredible."
Zhao Yuan smiled and replied, "Aunt Xue, you're too kind. I learned it all from a friend."
"Is it that head chef from Lakefront House?" Lin Xue asked curiously. She had gone with Zhao Yuan to eat at Lakefront House several times, and Hao Li would always come over to chat with him for a bit.
"That's right." Zhao Yuan nodded. "That guy is quite a character."
Xue Wanyun heard this but thought nothing of it, assuming Zhao Yuan was simply praising his friend. Lin Xue, however, understood his hidden meaning. She knew he was telling her that Hao Li was also a Cultivator.
Lin Xue couldn't help but mutter to herself, 'A chef who's also a Cultivator? Ah, I remember now. Zhao Yuan told me before that cultivation has many different schools, and one of them is the Tripod Cuisine School. It seems that head chef from Lakefront House must be a Cultivator from the Tripod Cuisine School.'
Xue Wanyun had no idea the two youngsters were secretly speaking in code. She smiled and said, "Xiaozhao, since your knife skills are so impressive, your cooking must be good too, right? Oh, that's right, you did say you were going to show off your culinary skills today and make a few dishes for us to try. How about it? Shall we start now?"
"Alright." Zhao Yuan didn't refuse and agreed at once. "In that case, I'll make a pot of medicinal cuisine."
"Medicinal cuisine?" Xue Wanyun glanced at the ingredients laid out in the kitchen. "But I didn't buy any medicinal herbs today. How about this, tell me what herbs you need, and I'll have your Uncle Lin bring them back. He should be home soon, judging by the time."
Zhao Yuan politely declined, "No need, I have herbs in my car. I'll go get them now." He then left the villa, went to his car, and, using the car as cover, took out the various herbs needed to make the medicinal cuisine.
In the kitchen, Xue Wanyun took the opportunity to impart some wisdom to Lin Xue. "Xiaoxue, I can tell now, that boy Xiaozhao is no ordinary person. You have to hold onto him tight and not let some other woman snatch him away. A guy as outstanding as him is truly one in a million!"
Although a little embarrassed, Lin Xue replied, "Don't worry, Mom. We have a great relationship, and I trust Zhao Yuan. He's not the type to cheat."
Xue Wanyun said, "Xiaozhao is a good kid, that's true. But my worry is that some shameless woman will try to seduce him. Of course, when I say hold onto him, I don't mean you should cling to him constantly. That will only annoy him. What you need to do is this..."
Speaking as someone with experience, she began to ramble on, imparting her wisdom to Lin Xue. She only stopped when Zhao Yuan returned to the kitchen with the herbs.
Lin Xue's face was bright red. Listening to her mother's lecture on how to 'tie down a man' was certainly awkward and embarrassing. Fortunately, Zhao Yuan didn't notice. He was busy fussing over his pot of medicinal cuisine.
Soon, it was noon.
A rich aroma began to waft from the kitchen, so tantalizing it made one's mouth water.
It was only then that the people in the study realized how late it had gotten.
Although, deep down, none of them wanted to leave in the slightest, it was already lunchtime. If they didn't go now, were they supposed to shamelessly stay and freeload a meal? It was obvious that today was a private family dinner to welcome Zhao Yuan. As uninvited guests, they were already being a major disturbance. If they were so clueless as to stay for food, even if the hosts didn't say anything, they would surely be cursing them out internally.
So, it was time to leave.
As everyone was about to leave, they were still reluctant, their eyes glued to the calligraphy of the character 'Dao'.
Seeing their reactions, Lin Liangzhe didn't say a word, but he couldn't hide the smug look on his face.
But soon, Lin Liangzhe wasn't smiling anymore.
Because just as they were leaving, his old friends suddenly swarmed and surrounded him, clamoring all at once, asking him for the pieces of calligraphy Zhao Yuan had just written.
Hearing their requests, Lin Liangzhe nearly jumped. "What? You want Zhao Yuan's calligraphy? Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
