Chapter 498: 498 | I’m Keeping You

Her gaze dropped and her expression shifted from murderous to hungry so fast I almost missed the transition. "Oh. Oh, that’s—yeah. Get over here."

I stepped between her spread legs and lined myself up and pushed in slow, and Addison threw her head back against the frame and made a sound that started as a moan and ended as a laugh, delirious and wrecked, like she couldn’t believe her own body.

"Fuck. Okay. Okay, that’s a lot, that’s—move, why aren’t you moving, I swear to god—"

I put a hand over her mouth.

She bit it. Naturally. But the pain converted, and she moaned against my palm instead of cursing, and I started to move.

I set a pace that had nothing gentle in it. She’d told me gentle made her itchy and I believed her, so I gave her the opposite, drove into her hard enough that the frame shuddered against the stone and the chains rang and her whole body absorbed each thrust and begged for the next. My hand stayed over her mouth. Her eyes stayed locked on mine, brown and violet and swimming, and every muffled sound she made vibrated against my palm.

"You feel that?" I dropped my mouth to her ear. "That’s you. Not the reputation. Not the knives. Not the death metal. Just you, tied to a wall, taking me because you wanted to be taken." I ground deep and held there and felt her clench around me. "Say it. Say you wanted this."

I lifted my hand.

"I wanted this," she gasped. No hesitation. No brat. Just raw. "I wanted this, I’ve wanted this since the fucking ferry, since Aurora wouldn’t shut up about you, since I watched you fight a guardian and turn gold and I hated that it did something to me—" Her voice broke apart. "Don’t stop. Please don’t stop. I never say please, I don’t—but please—"

I kissed her. Swallowed the rest of it. She kissed back like she was drowning, like I was the only solid thing in a collapsing world, and I hooked one of her legs up higher against my hip and changed the angle and felt her shatter start to build.

Euphoric Feedback to nine. Sensory Hijack layered over the top, touch and taste both, doubling every point of contact until she was sobbing into my mouth.

"I’m gonna—" She couldn’t finish it. Her whole body strained against the cuffs, muscles standing out along her arms, her thighs shaking.

"I know."

"Jace—"

"I know. Come on. Give it to me."

Her third peak took her under like a riptide. She screamed my name into my mouth and her body clenched around me and locked rigid against the frame and the chains rang one final time, and milk sprayed between us, and she came apart so completely that for a moment there was nothing left of Addison Baxter’s armor at all. Just a girl, held up by leather cuffs and my body, feeling more than she’d let herself feel in years.

The System notification bloomed gold behind my eyes.

◆ RESONANCE COUPLING COMPLETE ◆

Target: Addison Baxter

Devotion: 78% → 91%

Divine Empowerment applied. Reaper’s Edge → Gold tier for 48 hours.

Session multiplier active (2x).

Quest Progress: 4/4 targets complete.

And underneath it, in the same gold, a second line I hadn’t expected.

◆ FOUR RINGS, ONE FIELD - COMPLETE ◆

Field permanently stabilized.

Divine Overflow cost reduced by 40%.

Essence Vault capacity +6 (12 total).

Lifespan gain this session: doubled.

The graft in my chest didn’t purr anymore. It roared. Warm and full and satisfied in a way that had nothing to do with points and everything to do with the four rings burning steady in the back of my skull, all of them locked in, all of them mine, all of them keeping me alive for reasons that had stopped being transactional somewhere around week four when I’d stopped running the con and started meaning it.

I came a beat after she did, unable to hold back, and buried myself deep while my body emptied and the resonance pulled it out of me the same way it had pulled Addison apart.

We hung there together. Her in the cuffs, me still inside her, both of us wrecked and breathing hard in a dungeon she’d built out of leather and spite and a secret longing to be caught.

"Untie me," she mumbled eventually. "My arms are asleep. I can’t feel my hands. This is grounds for a lawsuit."

I reached up and released the cuffs. Her arms dropped and she immediately collapsed forward into my chest, and I caught her, because she weighed nothing and because catching her was the entire point.

"You’re keeping me," she said into my sternum.

"What?"

"You heard me. Don’t make me say it twice, I’ll deny it in the morning." Her fingers curled against my chest, right over the graft, right over the scars a leopard had left. "Aurora’s got you. Fine. Belle and the pink one too. Whatever. I don’t care. But you’re keeping me. That’s the deal. I decided."

The old me would have run the math. Devotion percentages, extraction schedules, the logistics of adding a fifth ring to a field that already had four. Would have treated it like an acquisition, another resource, another number in a spreadsheet.

I pressed a kiss to the top of her purple-threaded hair.

"Yeah," I said. "I’m keeping you."

She was quiet for a second. Then, muffled against my chest, barely audible over the fading torchlight and the hum of a satisfied divine parasite, she said, "You still owe me three coffee jellies."

"I know."

"And you’re dyeing your hair Tuesday. Black. I already bought the good stuff."

"I know."

"And if you die again I’m going to be so mad at you."

I laughed. Felt it move through both of us. "I know, Addison."

She lifted her head. The contacts had shifted all the way now, and I could see her real eyes, brown and warm and terrifyingly open, staring up at me with something she’d spent her whole life making sure nobody got close enough to see.

"You’re insufferable," she said.

"So I’ve been told."

Somewhere down the hall, past whatever fresh reality the Sanctum decided to build next, three women waited on a clifftop with champagne and a completed bracket and a betting pool on how long I’d survive the answer to their tournament question. Four rings burned steady in the back of my skull. The graft sat full and quiet for the first time in six weeks.

And the quest, the impossible one the old man’s machine had thrown at me while I sat in a chair at a party that shouldn’t exist, was finished.

Divine Overflow at forty percent off. Five minutes of god-mode instead of three. A vault that could hold twelve cups now.

I’d walked into this party with six days left on the clock.

I did the math while Addison melted against my chest and complained about her dead arms, and the number came back bigger than I’d expected, doubled by a session multiplier and stacked with the essence I’d banked, and for the first time since I woke up in this ridiculous body with seventy-two hours and a spreadsheet, the death timer in the corner of my vision didn’t feel like a countdown.

It felt like room to breathe.

"Hey," Addison said. "Milk boy."

"What."

"Carry me. My legs don’t work and I’m not walking out of this dungeon under my own power. Bad for my reputation."

I bent and lifted her, and she wrapped her arms around my neck and pressed her face into my throat, and I carried her out of the space she’d built to be dominated in, past the dissolving stone walls, toward the golden light and the women who’d chosen me back.

"You’re smiling," she accused into my neck. "I can feel it. Stop that."

"Can’t. It’s load-bearing."

She bit me. Gently, this time.
