Chapter 765: Chapter 753: I Want You to Marry Me (40)

Harold Bishop’s lips slowly curved into a sneer. "Heh, in that case, Mr. Lockwood, why don’t you tell me exactly what your relationship with Eleanor is?"

He didn’t know what kind of man Archie Lockwood was, but he was absolutely certain that Archie wouldn’t dare reveal his relationship with Eleanor Bishop.

Sure enough, when Archie Lockwood heard Harold Bishop’s words, his expression did indeed darken unpleasantly.

"Today, if you don’t clarify your relationship with Eleanor, Mr. Lockwood, then I believe I have the right to take my daughter with me."

"Heh..." Upon hearing this, Archie Lockwood’s lips curved into a wicked, cold smile.

Seeing the sparks fly between the two men, Eleanor Bishop’s pretty face went deathly pale. She nervously reached out and tugged on Archie Lockwood’s sleeve. "I already said I’d stay. Please don’t talk to my dad like that."

"—" Archie Lockwood shot Eleanor Bishop an angry, displeased glare.

’Don’t talk to her dad like that?’

’He was already being polite enough, gentle enough. What more did she want from him?’

"It’s almost time for dinner, Mayor Bishop. Why don’t you leave after eating?" The implication was clear: if Mayor Bishop had no other business, he should leave soon, as they were about to have dinner.

But even though Mayor Bishop understood the meaning behind Archie Lockwood’s words, his expression didn’t change as he accepted.

Archie Lockwood’s expression wasn’t pleasant. He waved a hand, instructing the servants to prepare dinner.

During this time, neither Harold Bishop nor Archie Lockwood said another word. One drank his tea, and the other peeled and ate a tangerine.

Eleanor Bishop, standing to the side, felt incredibly anxious. ’If the two of them were arguing, she would have found it normal. But this silence, with neither speaking to the other, was putting immense pressure on her!’

’She didn’t even know who she was supposed to placate.’

’Although, no matter what, the only one she’d dare to try and persuade in the end was her dad...’

Shirley Lockwood also clearly sensed that her dad was deliberately reining in his temper in front of this "bargain-bin" maternal grandfather.

So, it wasn’t hard to guess that her dad really was planning on finding her a stepmother. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be putting himself through this.

She secretly walked over to Howard Rhodes, gently tugged on his clothes, and lowered her voice to fish for information. "Rhodes, what’s up with my dad? Do you think he really wants to find me a stepmom?"

"Uh... I’m not sure about that..." Hearing her question, Howard Rhodes scratched his head, looking a little awkward.

"How could you not know? Rhodes, you’re always by my dad’s side. Is there anything about him you *don’t* know?"

"Miss Rory, I really don’t know about the boss’s private affairs." ’He was always by the boss’s side. He knew everything.’

’But just because he knew didn’t mean the boss wanted him to say it!’

Archie Lockwood was already suppressing his anger, so when he saw Rory and Howard Rhodes whispering secretly to each other, he arched a brow in displeasure and said in a low voice, "Rory, what are you and Howard Rhodes muttering about over there?"

"Oh, oh, nothing, nothing! Dad, I just remembered I haven’t washed my face or brushed my teeth since I woke up. We’re about to eat, so I better hurry." With that, Shirley Lockwood dashed upstairs in a flurry.

Watching Shirley Lockwood’s retreating figure, Harold Bishop’s brows knitted tightly, his expression clearly filled with anger.

He wasn’t angry at Rory, but at Archie Lockwood.

Angry that Archie Lockwood had scared away his precious granddaughter with just one sentence.

By the time Shirley Lockwood came back downstairs, the meal had already been served.
