Chapter 780: Chapter 768: Provoking a Peach Blossom (8)

"Jason! Lockwood!" Archie Lockwood clenched his fists, his gaze sinister as he spoke coldly, enunciating every syllable.

Shannon Vance’s heart skipped a beat when she heard him. "Huh? Archie, you know him?"

"I know him. How could I not? I’d recognize him even if he were reduced to ashes!"

Seeing the dark expression on Archie Lockwood’s face, Shannon Vance asked cautiously, "Archie, so... will you help me?"

"He wants to marry into the Vance family?" Archie Lockwood didn’t answer her. Instead, he stared fixedly in Jason Lockwood’s direction, his thin lips uttering bone-chilling words.

Shannon Vance nodded, her voice low and dejected. "Yeah. My parents arranged our engagement six months ago. They wanted to use my cousin’s birthday party as an opportunity to announce it publicly."

"Hmph. He’s certainly playing his cards right." ’Right out of prison, and he’s already latched onto the Vance family.’

Archie Lockwood’s gaze grew a hundred times colder. For the past six years, he had almost forgotten Jason Lockwood even existed.

He never expected that someone who should have still been in prison would get out early.

’Jason Lockwood... always true to form.’

"Archie, I don’t know what kind of history you two have, but I don’t like him. I disliked him from the moment I first saw him. Could you... could you pretend to be my boyfriend in front of my parents in a little bit?" Aside from the fact that she was fond of Archie Lockwood, he was a hundred times better than that Jason Lockwood in every way.

She was confident her parents would approve of her choice.

Archie Lockwood’s face was cold as he nodded. "Mm..."

Hearing him agree, Shannon Vance beamed with delight. "Archie, I knew you were the best."

’Even though Archie Lockwood is usually cold and aloof, he’s still good to me.’

Shannon Vance took Rory’s hand with one of hers and looped her other arm through Archie Lockwood’s, walking toward her cousin, Fiona Vance.

Fiona Vance had noticed them the moment they walked in. So now, as she watched Shannon Vance approach with her companions, the smile on her lips gradually stiffened.

Just as Shannon Vance brought her party before Fiona Vance and was about to smile and make introductions, a cool male voice spoke first.

"President Vance."

Hearing his voice, Fiona Vance’s heart sank. The hand holding her wine glass trembled slightly.

Shannon Vance turned to Archie Lockwood in surprise. "Archie, you know my cousin?"

"I do." Archie Lockwood glanced at Shannon Vance with cold eyes, his thin lips parting slightly.

"You do? Oh my god, Archie, how do you know my cousin? Why didn’t I know?" The smile on Shannon Vance’s face froze a little. She feigned a look of pleasant surprise and let go of Archie Lockwood’s arm.

Fiona Vance tore her gaze away from Archie Lockwood and looked at Shannon Vance, her expression cold. "Shannon, Mr. Summers and I worked together on business in the past. That’s how we know each other. Don’t overthink it."

"Mr. Summers?" Shannon Vance was once again taken aback by Fiona Vance’s words.

Fiona Vance gave a self-deprecating laugh and said lightly, "Oh, I almost forgot. He’s not Mr. Summers anymore. He’s Mr. Lockwood."

"What’s going on? Why is it Mr. Summers one minute and Mr. Lockwood the next?" Shannon Vance was completely baffled by her cousin’s words.

Fiona Vance turned, picked up a glass of wine, and handed it to Archie Lockwood. She pursed her lips and said with a cold smile, "He used to be Mr. Archie Summers. Now he’s Mr. Archie Lockwood. It’s not just his identity and status that have changed—his heart has been replaced, too."
